So I decided to go out on Monday and get a vaporizer. I didn't want to drop a lot of money on one so I got an aspire carbon 1600mah battery and an aspire tank that was 10 bucks. It seems to work ok so far. That being said I've picked up a few different fluids to start out. I first bought some mister e fluid, 24mg mtn dew flavor. I liked the amount of taste but it burnt my throat and was annoying. The next day I bought nectar with numbers instead of letters in the name( kinda dumb if you ask me) 12mg blue berry pie flavor, it was much more smoother but the level of flavor was quite low. And the. Today I picked up a peach flavor in 6mg.... It would take me a while to be able to tell what the flavor truly was. It just tastes fruity. So now that I'm still haven't really gained much knowledge on fluids I come here. Are fluids generally very light on flavor? What makes differnt brands with the same ratio of vg and pg good or bad? Is it the quality of vg and pg? Is looking up online reviews basically the only way to know if a product is quality? I'm still confused on what ratio of vg and pg is good for me. Anyways all this has probably been covered more times than not so off to reading up on here I go. TIA

The general wisdom says that higher PG liquids deliver more flavor and throat hit, while higher VG liquids produce more vapor.

Nicotine also increases the throat hit, so the irritation you experienced with the 24mg liquid was probably caused by that rather than the flavor.

Some liquids definitely have more flavor. I tried some Halo menthols recently that were much more flavorful than my typical liquid. I didn't particularly like the flavor (too pepperminty), but there was gobs of it.

^ what they said

Mount baker vaper is a good eliquid company as their juice is low cost and you can really tailer the blend to your liking over time. I vaped their juice for quite some time. It's great in higher resistance Clearomizers (1.6 ohm and above)
Let me know if any of that doesn't make sense :)

Clearomizer is a type of tank atomizer system - the part you put juice in, and screw on the battery to make the vapors happen.
Every atomizer has resistance. There are some Clearomizers that are "sub ohm" or below 1 ohm. There's a lot more technical stuff to it, but if you are buying replaceable coil heads all you really need to know is... Lower ohms (1.6ish) drains your battery faster, but also heats up faster and may produce a warmer vape. Conversely higher (2.2) ohms sip the battery life slower, take a bit longer to heat and produce a cooler vape. 1.6 used to be the low end of Clearomizers I think, but it's been over a year since I've had to mess with those, sorry :S

Is that any better? I'm happy to break it down more if I introduced more complexity... Anyone else feel free to chime in if you have a better way of explaining this, I'm a bit rusty on the ego/clearomizer stuff... Just trying to help :)

(I've been in the advanced forum too much I guess, so I'm way to comfortable with all the technical terms and jargon!)

Welcome Mediumrare :)

Juices are such a wide array - the flavors, the PG/VG levels, the nicotine. Everyone likes something different.

Not only the juice itself, but the topper on the device. You'll get the single/dual coil crowd, the top-coil/bottom coil crowd and the sub-ohm crowd. You'll get the contingent from the rebuildables, and the clearomizers and the cartomizer crowds as well. Again, everyone likes/experiences something completely different.

Not 100% sure what your Aspire tank is, but I'm guessing it's a bottom-coil clearomizer. Maybe with or without airflow (probably without judging from the price you paid for your goodies.) Mount Baker Vapor has some great (and relatively inexpensive) juice selections. You can pick from a variety of PG/VG ratios (higher PG tends to yield more flavor and more "throat hit", in addition to nicotine adding to throat hit; higher VG tends to be the cloud producer, but it's thicker and a little more difficult to wick.) Some people have various reactions to too much PG or VG. I like 50/50-ish. Best of both worlds for me.

Some juices need a little time to develop their flavors (called steeping). Mass-produced juices might tend to be a little light on flavor, where "custom" shops will mix a little more according to your tastes (i.e. Mt. Baker's "flavor shots")

Kinda back to Hectic's point, Mt Baker's juices are slightly customizable (you can pick from certain PG/VG ratios and add those "flavor shots" to boost the overall flavoring) Lots of folks who head for the sub-ohm world like the higher VG ratio because it can produce a higher volume of cloud than a higher-PG juice. Clearomizers (with pre-built coils) don't necessarily have the characteristics needed to properly wick higher-VG juices, so the great majority of MBV juices will work well in typical clearos, most of which are at least 1.6 ohms or higher.

Finding flavor(s) you like in ratios and nic levels will be a bit of a search for you (as it is for all of us.) Don't be afraid to try things, and you'll also likely find that your tastes will change over time. Some say they have their "all-day vape" (ADV) - I have yet to find mine ;) But, I don't mind. I'm making my own juices now, so my sky's the limit (based on what I have in my mixing cabinet.)

Find a sampling bar, if possible. Try different things. Note that those are probably mixed at 0mg nic (nic can deliver a "peppery" taste) so if you find a nic level, the taste won't be *exactly* the same, but hopefully not too different from the sample. I'd recommend smaller bottles to start with. But, if you get a couple that you're not overly crazy about, you can always blend them yourself (if they're compatible) and maybe come up with something more tolerable.

I never bought from too many places (besides my B&M, I think I've only ordered from 3 vendors.) Can't really comment on what's out there, but each person will swear by this or that :) I've probably missed the boat on some magical flavor, but now that I make my own, I've made some clone recipes that I'm very happy with.

Good luck in the hunt for your flavor(s) IMO that's over half the fun of vaping!

Thanks for taking a stab dinger :) not sure if that makes things clear or not.. Check out the stickeys on the new member forum, they have a post about terms and gear that may be more helpful than us members just winging it as far as explaining some of this stuff that is covered there. I haven't looked at it for some time, so it may be a bit dated, but the concepts generally haven't changed, just some of the options in each category have gotten more extensive... Ie sub ohm coils.

Ignore the rebuilding stuff for now... Egos and Clearomizers has enough content to keep you busy for a while...... No need to bite off that chunk too when you've already got enough on your plate :)
You've already got your gear, and that's half the battle!

Juice can be hard to nail down, but bear in mind that afew weeks to a few months after you have had your last cigarette, your taste and smell will come back, so what you like during that first period may be nasty to you after that period, and what you thought tasted like hot garbage before may taste like heaven later.sorry it can't be as easy as buying a pack of cum at the supermarket:S
There is some to learn here, but once you get it you will be on your way to a healthier alternative to traditional tobacco... You'll likely breath better, smell better (both your senses and other peoples :) ) and likely have more energy...

Let me know if I can do more, just trying not to discourage you! :)

Greetings Mediumrarechicken and Welcome to the ECF. I try juices at my B&M till I find one that I like and has flavor for me, all juices taste different to everyone. Sometimes the juice needs to steep in a dark place for a month or more and the flavor will come out, I find that with the juices I order on line.

Hi MRC and welcome to the den.
I am in no way knowledgeable to the science of juices to offer input but the flavorrs you mentioned are strikingly similar to the store I use. I realize the chances are so slim but did you purchase your gear and juice east of Toronto?
You have a great resource here and I urge you to use this place to it's fullest. Ask all the question to satisfy your new realm and remember to stay away from the stinkies..
Enjoy
