Hello and welcome to the forum @czarina. Glad to have you here!:)

I often recommend an iStick 30 watt or Coolfire 4 (both mods) with an Aspire Mini Nautilus or eLeaf GS Air M (both tanks). Videos below.

========

If you are interested in learning more about e-cigarettes (and all the parts and pieces) below are some blog posts by ECF member @Baditude that I highly recommend for someone new to vaping.
Here are a few more links from New Members Information <= Link covers many topics. Here are two of them:
Nicotine

A "general guideline" for nicotine concentration in e-liquid to the number of cigarettes smoked per day. If you are subohming (resistance under 1.0Ω) cut these nicotine levels by at least 50%.

06 mg = 10 cigarettes or less
12 mg = 20 cigarettes
18 mg = 30 cigarettes
24 mg = 40 cigarettes

eLiquid/Juice

PG = Propylene Glycol - the "flavor carrier" of e-liquid. A secondary source of "throat hit", but not as strong as the nicotine concentration. Some people have a sensitivity or even an allergy to PG. It's very thin.

VG = Vegetable Glycerin - the "vapor maker" of e-liquid. Used as a sweeter in many food sources, and also as a skin emollient. It's very thick. Often labeled just "Glycerine"

PG and VG are often used together in different ratios in e-liquid. For example, a 50/50 PG/VG ratio. Some juice vendors offer a range of different ratios as far as PG/VG.
Susan, I've seen you post this to help so many new vapers. Maybe it's time I told you this is an awesome post to get folks started on the right track! I have three nautilus mini's, 4 GS airs, two Istick 30w and the newer istick40w (get the silicone sleeves for them you will be glad you did!), great gear for new and experienced vapers who prefer mouth to lung style vaping. For straight to lung, subtank mini is a good choice. :)

Hi! And let me just say that I am very thankful for finding this forum! (boy, do I have some questions! Ha ha) But I will save those for later.

First, I need advice on what kit to buy. So, I will tell you a little about my situation, and then perhaps you will have advice for me.

My reason for being here is that I desperately want to quit smoking. I have literally tried everything, to no avail.
I am a nurse, and most likely a type A personality.

Sadly, I think I could describe myself as a " hard-core smoker". But, I desperately want to quit, and have just heard about vaping. I thought vaping was using those hidious electronic ciggs they sell at the Smoke-and-Go. I had tried the Blue a few times, and couldn't see what all the hoofla was about, because they are just plain nasty.

I smoke Virginia Slims light, (non-menthol), 120's. About 2 packs a day. Sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less. At times, especially if I am working on something, I definitely chain smoke. A lot of it is just habit. I will try to cut down, and then realize I have lit up without even realizing I have.

I am desperate. Frankly, lately, I don't even like the way they taste. I am very excited about vaping, but I know absolutely nothing about it. I have been doing some research, but frankly, that just gets me mor confused!

I can't wait to purchase my first vaping apparatus! But, the more I look, the more confused I become. I was looking at Kanger, but then got confused about the " Subox Nano starter Kit" and the "Subox Mini Starter Kit"!

Help! I am soooo confused. At this point, I don't really care what all the numbers and OHM'S mean! That will all start to make sense to me after a while.

So, for right now, could you please advise me on a good, reasonable priced, ($60 to $70 or less), device?
(I am not partial to Kanger)

Something that has everything in the kit.(except the juice and battery, maybe).

I will go and purchase it immediately. I have been looking on e-bay, but just get more confused.

Once I get the purchase out of the way I will start with all the questions, ha ha!

And, I promise, no more long posts like this!!!!!!

Thanks so much for any help.

I did a lot of research before I started too. Good idea. It helps you to get acquainted with what is out there. I don't use the gear you have chosen, but it is popular. I see a lot of people wanting to use that gear. If you have an opportunity to compare what is available to some other gear, I suggest Aspire tanks and Sigelei box mods. That of course is just my opinion but you should have a few brand names to toss around when you first go in.

With as much smoking as you are doing you are going to want to stay within the 6mg/ml, 9mg/ml or 12mg/ml range for nicotine. Note that the higher you go in nic I have found that the flavor is harder to taste, and the vape will be a bit harsher. Have them show you how to vape, mouth to lung for the max hit of the nic....it's just like breathing but you inhale completely from the device.

There are some popular juices, but you should go try them, and that brings up a myriad of issues. You should go to a vape shop, even if you have to drive an hour to get to one for your first few purchases. Prepare to sped a few hours trying ALL of the juices in the store, one at a time, and get to know the staff. See if they have what is called an RDA and let them apply the juice to the wicking material. Allow them to put the juice in the RDA twice, b/c the second set of vapes will tell you more about the flavor. The reason why I suggest the RDA is that you will have it throughout the vaping experience and it is easy to drip new flavors in too. (I use both an RDA and tanks.)

I could list a dozen juices for you to buy but you need to go and try out what is available locally...and really, even though I'm looking at 100 different juices here at my place, it's a drop in the bucket to what is available.

Hi! Gosh, thank y'all for so many quick responses! Since I got the first response from Susan-S, I have had my head buried, watching all the videos she suggested.

So many options. I had decided on the Coolfire 4, and the eleaf GS air M, but was having trouble finding it on e-bay.

But, I think I will take some advice offered here, and not purchase from e-bay, but will go through some vendors suggested here.

Do have a few more questions, though. How long should a device last? I have figured out that the tanks will be used up first, and either need replacing, or the coils replaced. So, approx how long should a brand new tank last, before it requires attention? Then, what is the longevity of a mod?

Also, I don't mind spending more on a Kanger, or other brand, if it will provide a more optimal vaping experience. I just didn't want to pop out of the closet and purchase some $199.00 kit!

I had decided on the Coolfire 4 that Susan-S had suggested, because of something else I had read here on this site, while I have been researching. Somewhere here, someone was singing its praises, saying that she actually had purchased 3, because she liked it so well. So, with that, and Susan suggesting it, then the guy in the video seemed to really like it, it seemed like a good choice.

Actually, I was hoping for a kit, that was all inclusive, but that was merely due to my lack of knowledge of them.

Next question: the guy in the video seemed to like the eleaf GS Air M tank better than the Aspire Mini Nautilus tank, but I was having trouble finding them on e-bay. Also, does it matter whether you use the long or the short? They offered TC or original, which I assumed wouldn't be compatible.
Also, with or without an atomizer?

No worries now, as I will look at the vendors suggested here. But, I do need to know, if mega or mega short will both work? If not, I can just use the mini Nautilus.

Also, a little concerned about the battery not coming out of the Coolfire 4. When it dies, so does the device.

So, if you guys think these are good beginning choices, I will try to find them.

Next question: how long does a bottle of juice last?

Thanks again for all the help!

The length of time that a bottle of juice lasts is going to depend on if you vape the same way you smoke, OR if you vape directly in to your lungs, how frequently you vape, and what wattage you vape at. There is a lot going on. It might last you 2 days or one week.

So many choices! I just started and had the same questions. I thought I had settled on the Kanger SubBox Mini kit. But then I went to a local Vape shop (Vapor Shark) with all the information I had and they were a GREAT help. I just told them I was a newbie, but had done some research. After talking with them I settled on a iStick TC60W with a Aspire Triton tank. They put it together as a kit with batteries (get at least two), charger, and carrying case. You can see my thread here.

So my advice would be to type "Vape Shop" into Google and look for nearby shops. Not sure they all do it, but Vapor Shark had a couple hundred devices out with different flavors in them that you can try. They will help you narrow down your choices (even then I could have bought a bunch more flavors that were very good). They will probably even match prices if you ask.

In the end, I don't see how you can really go wrong with all the great advice you are getting here. Worst case you have to love it and have to go out and buy another as a back up!
Good Luck! :)

Well, I am extremely excited! I have done nothing but research, watching the video links that were supplied here, and reading as much as I can.

A super big thank you to all who helped. It truly is appreciated. I listened to everyone and tried to incorporate their input into my choices.

I have now made all my initial purchases:
Innokin Coolfire 4 IV 40W (blue) for my mod
2 Aspire Mini Nautilus tanks
1 Aspire Mini Nautilus replacement coil set
2 eleaf GS Air M tanks
1 eleaf GS Air M coil replacement set
1 36 ml Flux Six Sense 17mg e-juice
1 Bavarian Cream 30ml 18mg Baker Vapor e-juice
1 French Vanilla 15ml 12mg Baker Vapor e-juice
1 Afternoon Delight 15ml 6mg Baker Vapor e-juice

Everything is ordered, and hopefully won't be too delayed by the holiday.

I decided to get back-up tanks, in case I had problems with one. I got the replacement coils because I suspect this is something that I will have to learn to do.

I got the eleaf tanks because of their price, $10.00!
I suspect I will also be purchasing a back up mod, but am wondering if I should maybe try a different brand, as I am trying to broaden my horizon?

I got the vanilla e-juices because someone suggested that they have a strong flavor, and had helped them get over cigs.

I am so excited and can't wait for my goodies to get here!!!!!

So, for now it's back to watching videos and reading.

I am wondering what the difference between " mouth to lung " and " straight to lung " is?

So, I've been very busy, and now I will be very anxious till my treasure's arrive!

Again, thanks sooo much for all the guidance!

Congrats to you on your purchases! I'm new here like you, having only joined ECF Sept 8th.

Not sure if I'm 100% on this. I think you want to do "straight to lung" ... otherwise they call you a "tootlepuffer." I'm guessing the latter means that you hit the vape gear like most smoke a cigarette, by bringing the "smoke" in to your mouth using your lips and cheeks and only then inhale it. I _THINK_ straight to lung means you bypass storing the "smoke" in your mouth, and inhale on the tank drip tip.

Good move on the coils. You will be going through them a lot when first trying to learn how to use the gear. I going through a lot of them initially, but then as I became aware of how the gear worked, I'm guessing, but I think my coils last at least 2 to 3 months now. Make sure to prep the coil before you vape off of it. Drop a few times on the air flow holes where the liquid is pulled in through the coils. I do it two to three times. Then assemble everything and let the tank with coil sit there for at least a minute or two. Then without the tank attached to the electronic device, box mod or other...inhale had on the tank, just as if you were vaping. Hit it hard. You will be drawing juice in to the coil cotton, and after two to five good hits...you should not burn the coil.

I never burn coils now b/c I hit it hard when I draw. I chain vape all day sometimes...straight to lung.

When changing juices in the tank, take everything apart, rinse everything off in a sink, and blow the pieces out as you reassemble it. As long as everything is a bit moist, you do not need to drop juice on the air holes of the coil/atomizer again...fill the tank up with juice and have a go at it. Just make sure you take a few good hits...until you taste the juice, then you can set it down. The juice should keep it moist for sometime. If you let a day or two go between vape sessions, then without firing the box mod up, draw air through the tank again, like you did with the new coil a few times to make sure that you do not burn the coil.

Best of luck to you!

Another vote for the Subox starter kit. I only got 1 battery for mine and charge it in the unit. I've got other units , batteries and a charger but I've found the Subox charges just fine as is. You might find the battery not lasting all day when you're first giving up cigarettes is why I agree maybe another battery and charger to make sure you never run out of power, especially at first.
As far as the tank it comes with, the vapor production (nicotine absorption capability) is phenomenal and flavor is also the best of every dripper and tank I own. The starter kit comes with all you'll need as far as the delivery system except battery and juice. You can get spare coil/wick assemblies, for easy change it with no fuss or muss, for about $20, at most, that's a box of 5 . About every 3-4 days replace an old one with a new one and let the old one soak in water for about a day and let it dry for at least a day. Put it back in the rotation and you'll not need to purchase new coils for quite a while. Juice up the coil by putting a little juice everywhere you see cotton before installing and it'll blow you away with the vapor production and flavor as well as you might find yourself dropping in nicotine level need by the time you finish your first bottle of juice.
Oh and when you're really craving a cigarette, inhale like normal but exhale a little slowly through your mouth and nose for a better nicotine absorption than just the mouth. Most vapor nicotine is absorbed in the north and nose vs lungs of cigarette smoke.

The Coolfire/Nautilus setup will be fine, more than fine. Click on this link Vapecrawler type in the box what you are looking for. Look on the right side for coupon codes. Beware of things with "style" in the name, they are not authentic.

You can't go wrong with Innokin , they are built better and are better engineered than a lot of their competitors. Even Phil Busardo during his review of the Innokin Coolfire mod said the difference in quality between Innokin and Eleaf is night and day .

Eleaf has treated it's customers terribly when most have tried to get things taken care of under warranty. If a replacement is necessary hopefully you buy it from a reputable store as they will warrant and replace it if you have issues but Eleaf has yet to take care of the store and will not reimburse them.

Reddit was the last e cig community that busted Eleaf for promoting it's own products by having a whole bunch of different accounts with different user names which of course praised E Leaf products and criticized competitors products.

Thats been going on with every e cig forum since the iSticks were released. Most now avoid them at all costs for a variety of reasons but shoddy internal engineering is a big one as the overwhelming majority of their products do not last past a few months, some last considerably longer but they are very inconsistent, just a FYI .

I would go with a Sigelie or P4U product if you want affordable which still comes with a quality chip , many are selling for under $40.00 now.

I think you did very well. Your credit card bill may hurt a bit but you're set for awhile.

Changing pre-made coils is easy.

Unscrew the base from the tank.

Unscrew the coil head from the base.

Screw in the new coil.

When filling a tank that has a new coil, it's a good idea to drip a drop of juice into each of the holes on the side of the coil head and one or two down the center tube of the coil head to get the wick wet. Not too much.

Fill your tank with juice avoiding the center tube and don't overfill.

Screw the base back on and tighten snug but don' over tighten.

Let it sit on your Coolfire for a few minutes before taking your first hit.

Start with low watts, like 8 or 9. Increase the watts until it tastes good. If you get a slight burnt taste, turn it down a bit.

Your instruction booklet will explain how to change settings.

Well done. I'm sure you'll be happy with the gear you purchased. I DIY my juice so I can't say anything about your choices.

A back up mod is not a bad idea. Backups for the backups is the rule, so you always have something that works. An iStick 30 would do in a pinch, and is not expensive. Innokin-- who makes your Cool Fire-- has other good choices in their MVP line. You should also consider a Kanger Subox kit. This would get you into the removable battery world, so you can see which you like better. It also comes bundled with the Kanger Subtank, another good tank, so you can compare to the Nauti and Air. If Temp Control interests you at all, the iStick 40 and Evic VT are reasonable options to dip your toe in.

Mouth-to-lung means drawing the vapor into your mouth using a jaw and facial muscles motion identical to smoking a cigarette, then inhaling the vapor. Driect to lung means drawing the vapor directly in using your diaphragm muscles like breathing. Tighter tank air flow is preferable for the former; looser for the latter.

Yes indeed, my checkbook took a pretty big hit today! But, from all reading I have been doing, it seemed prudent to have a good supply of tanks, and replacement coils.

I pretty much had to buy the eleaf tanks, after watching the video about them. The guy rated them quite well, and geesh, for $10, it seemed like a no brainer. And, I will always have them on hand.

I am REALLY glad to hear that tanks can last up to 2 to 3 months, with proper care. I was a little worried about the price of replacing them if they only lasted a couole of days.

Thanks Chris, for the info on not burning the coils! I will be very careful with loading the juices into them, and try to use a proper draw technique, when vaping. Besides, I don't want to be known as the resident twittledawbler of my vaping community!!!!!!!

I feel like my lungs can't take a very big hit of vape at this time. I am sure they are congested with years of nastiness. But, I imagine everyone that quits smoking deals with this. Though, as a nurse, I imagine that the warm, moist vapors would help loosen the yucky stuff.

Hmmmm, now I am wondering if one could vape with a saline solution? I know it wouldn't taste good, but saline is what we use in the hospital to loosen mucous, so we can then suction it out of the lungs. Especially, if someone has a trach, we literally almost pour saline into the lungs, then go and quickly suction it out, along with the mucous plugs.

Well, at the very least, the warm, moist vapors will help.

I also see myself DIY my juices in the very near future. (More videos to watch)
I am curious about the "taste" of vaping. But guess it is just something I will have to experience to understand. But, while shopping for juices, they talked about the flavor " going in " and then experiencing a different flavor while it is" going out ".
So, this has really peeked my curiosity about experiencing these different effects.
But, if the proper way to vape is to use the diaphragm and drawing straight to the lung, how do we experience taste going in?
I guess I will just have to wait and see. Ha ha

I guess as far as vaping in public, it is the same as where we are allowed to smoke?

I see they have a holder for you devices made for in the car.
I was wondering if they have something for the coffee table? It seems important to not lay them down, or the juices might leak and get on parts they shouldn't?

(Oooh, I am just soo excited! I can't wait for my treats to arrive!)

I did find some vape shops in my general vicinity. I'm out in the country, and frankly try to avoid going to the city, but guess it will be worth a trip, so I can try a bunch of flavors.

Should I bring my device with me? Or do they have some kind of disposable tanks they use?

Thanks again for all the help. ( If you can't tell, I'm somewhat excited!) ha ha

Hi! And let me just say that I am very thankful for finding this forum! (boy, do I have some questions! Ha ha) But I will save those for later.

First, I need advice on what kit to buy. So, I will tell you a little about my situation, and then perhaps you will have advice for me.

If you get the Subox Nano you are NOT GOING TO BE HAPPY.

I'm not saying that is a bad kit because its perfectly fine for some people.

The problem is that you are coming off analogs and are not ready for big airflow and full lung hits. You are using g MTL (Mouth To Lung) on analogs, and would recommend a device that can give you MTL hits you are used to or you will feel much like a fish out of water.

I would recommend a Nautilus Mini tank with an Istick 30 of istick40tc. It has four an possibly more settings for airflow. I am sure you could find a airflow setting that will work perfectly for you.

About the mod. I use an istick60tc. That would be a good choice if you want an external battery instead of a rechargeable internal battery.

Later on when you are ready for big air then there are about 70 Sub Ohm tanks for you to grow into.

I recommended Subtank Mini to a friend still on analogs as you are and she HATED it. I want you to really have a chance to break the analogs.

MTL is the way people smoke cigarettes. lung hit is the way people smoke a joint of that herb that every one knows..

Coolfire4 is a good mod. I used to have one and gave it to my sister.

For your backup mod I would recommend one of the mods below.

Istick60tc
IPV D2
EVIC VTC Mini
Or any mod that uses an 18650 battery.

Before you start buying a lot of juice and get a lot of juice you hate go to a vape shop and ask if they have sample bottles and if you could taste drive a few juices.

Velvet VAPERS here in Tucson has tasters that holds 1-2 ml. You plug in s drip tip and can taste drive the juices you are interested in.

For mouth-to-lung you might want to look at a small bore drip tip. In my Triton I will use a 1.8ohm coil (narrow coil), half air flow on the bottom, closed air flow on the top, and a narrow tip (just the cheap disposable tip I got from a vape store) at 12W. It feels more like pulling on a cigarette, gives good flavor and still plenty of vapor.

At least that is my early experience.

Two-Bears, thanks for the info! I am absorbing any and all info I get. And, I stay busy reading here and watching videos.

I got mostly vanilla flavored juices, as I read here, somewhere on the forum, that the vanilla's and coffee flavors where a little stronger, so as a new vaper I will be able to taste them.

And I will take your advice and go on a taste testing expedition. I found a vape shop in the city, that I can go and have at it.

I have purchased my equipment, and now am just waiting for it to arrive.

My son has a mod, and let me try it. Ha ha he said I must be doing something wrong, because I didn't blow out a big vapor cloud. I just took a little hit. I remembered my, er, .... days, and didn't want to throw myself into a coughing fit!

But I finally took a fair sized hit, mouth to lung, and was pleasantly surprised that I didn't go into an uncontrollable coughing session. But, admittedly, I didn't max my lungs out on it, for fear of coughing.
So, I will just have to experiment around with it, to see what my lungs can tolerate.

I see that you are in Tuscon, I am originally from Phoenix, but now live down south in Louisiana, in Cajun country.
There is quite a contrast, I can tell you.
Ha ha
