New business in Pacific View mall sells e-cigarettes Ventura County Star

One of the more balanced articles I've read. Its point/counterpoint approach seems fair. Most past articles I’ve read have been very lopsided and misleading; favoring the Anti-E Cigarette perspective. Could the trend be changing; providing more balanced reporting? Or is it just that the Anti-tobacco Zealots in California do not strongly influence the news?

It's better than some articles I've seen, but I still don't like this part:

"When the user takes a drag, the battery heats up the liquid nicotine and creates a vapor, which is inhaled and then exhaled like smoke."

I wish reporters and vendors would stop wording it in such a way as to lead people to believe we are vaping nothing but nicotine. :( Some of us vape no nicotine :headbang:, and even those who do use nicotine have a very small amount of it in the actual juice they're vaping. Since the public is generally frightened of nicotine 8-o, it would be nice if the wording was more accurate in these descriptions. As long as the public believes we are exhaling straight nicotine into the air they breath, they will fear and fight us. My :2c:.

One of the more fair and balanced articles I’ve read on E Cigarettes; thank you!

I don’t understand why the FDA et al. have condemned E Cigarettes from the get go; I have my suspicions that the motive is less about the public’s health and more about politics, money, and control. I am an E Cigarette consumer, and as far as I’m concerned, they are a life saving alternative to smoking.

After 40 years of smoking, I tried an E Cigarette on December 6, 2009; I have not smoked a single cigarette since. The improvement in my health overall has been remarkable; particularly my ability to breathe. One of my favorite recreational pastimes is riding my bicycle. Last summer, my lung capacity was the most limiting factor. Now that the warmer weather has returned, I’m back to riding my bicycle. I can attest that my ability to breathe is no longer an issue.

Rather than damning E Cigarettes, the FDA should be expediting their approval as a Tobacco Harm Reduction Solution. After all, isn’t reducing harm the primary goal of the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act (FSPTCA)?

“The main goal is to use the best available science to guide the development and implementation of effective public health strategies to reduce the burden of illness and death caused by tobacco products.” FDA

E Cigarettes are not the solution for everyone. They are the solution for many nicotine addicted smokers who can not or choose not to quit nicotine but would prefer not to inhale smoke to get their nicotine. Removing the smoke (E Cigarettes don’t burn or produce smoke) removes the preponderance of the harm. By any measure, FDA approved cessation products fail miserably with most people relapsing back to deadly cigarettes. E Cigarettes, on the other hand, have demonstrated a high rate of success as a much safer alternative to smoking; they work! Like the saying goes “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!”

I agree KDK and you are so right....if this were truly about health-public and personal, safety, and the science, this would indeed not even be an issue. In fact it would be, as it should be, one of the biggest health breakthroughs in the last twenty-plus years and it would be promoted, studied, improved upon and everyone would be trying to take credit for it. Instead, the fact that none of this is the case; that this technology is mired in contraversy, argued in Ferderal Courts, the subject of knee-jerk state bans, ABSENT ANY documented cases of illness or injury after six years on the market, lied about, demonized, distorted, and misrepresented, all point to the obvious fact that it is
ALL about misguided ideology and "the Money."
