I really do like your calculator except for the fact that when I install and bring it up, import all the recipes there is a ton of each ingredient. I've tried to manage them and delete all the duplicates, tried find and replace but neither works. It also has the "save",save&exit buttons grayed out so when I exit and reopen I have to start over with the imports... And then more duplicate ingredients. I was using it on my laptop and after 4 or 5 unsuccessful attempts and remove program and reinstalls I finally quit trying. Tried it in my desktop... Same thing.

The things I like about it is being able to manage ingredients, seems to make things simple. And the print labels option is the bees knees! Help me please!

I should mention I am using windows xp professional

The "Save" and the "Save & Exit" are used to save the file that you currently have opened. I am guessing that when you are doing the import you are doing it into an empty document (you have never did a File->Save As). You must establish a filename for the document that you are working in before you can do a "Save". After you perform the import you should do a "File->Save As" to establish the filename. You could also do the "File->Save As" prior to doing the import.

As far as the duplicate ingredient names goes; When importing recipes the program will add new ingredients if the ingredient name does not already exist. To determine if the ingredient exists the following conditions must be true:
- The name of the ingredient in the recipe being imported must match the name of an existing ingredient.
- The PG/VG percentages of the imported ingredient must match the PG/VG percentages of the existing ingredient.
- The nicotine level of the imported ingredient must match the nicotine level of the existing ingredient.

What I have found is everyone names their ingredients a little bit different. I have seen ingredients named "Banana Cream TPA" and "Banana Cream - TPA". As you can see these names are different and therefore two ingredients would be created.

Also, on the "Find and Replace" make sure that you click the checkbox to "Delete Find Ingredient after replacing" so that the ingredient is removed after doing the replace.

It is not the software, something with your install, I've never encountered any of the issues you've mentioned. Does your laptop have multiple accounts set up on it? Sounds like the program does not have write permission. Just for grins, try uninstall, and reinstall as administrator, even if you have no other accounts on the machine, and are admin. I don't use XP anymore, but when I did I ran into issues with software not installing as admin.

Think if you right click the software Icon you can choose install in admin mode, been a while so I may be mistaken.

How about the folder you have specified for save function, make a new folder and target the new folder as the default directory. Possibly the folder where your recipe files are being stored was extracted from the archive with permissions set to write only, or maybe the files themselves set to write only, check permissions on them. Making and using a new folder may fix it.

I have used the heck out of the Search/replace/destroy function, it is Great!

I'll try again when I get home. @ HotRod .. I was talking about the save buttons at the bottom, even when I try to make a recipe they are still grayed out and when I go to close the program it prompts me to save, even a already imported recipe. I close and reopen and nothing is there, no imports, no ingredients, no nothing. Like I said I will try when I get home as admin.

First let me point out a little bit about the structure of the calculator. Unlike some of the other calculators, the recipes and ingredients are not stored in individual files. All of the recipes and ingredients are stored in one file, a file with an extension of .XML.
When you do a File->Save As, a single .XML file is created and that file holds all of your recipes and ingredients. There is more information about the structure of the calculator in the Help File under "Introduction -> Recipes and Files".

If you look at the title bar of the window it will either say "Recipe Calculator" or it will save "Recipe Calculate (File = xxx.XML)". If it says "Recipe Calculator" without the filename then the "Save" and "Save & Exit" buttons will be grayed out. The recipes and ingredients that you have added (or imported) are in memory and have not yet been saved. You must perform a "File->Save As" to establish a name and location for the file.

Once you have established a filename the save buttons will be available and each time you launch the calculator it will open your last opened file.

Hey Hotrod! This is working great, using it by weight and performs great.

I am curious about one thing. When i "tab" thru the fields to a fill in field, it puts the cursor at "home" of the field. Can you set it up to highlight the field as you "tab" thru them. A little thing but it would be helpful.

As Always, Thank you again for your Great Work! :toast:

I believe that I found the issue that bcollier is having and it is a bug that I will address.
When you are in the Find/Replace window replacing entries, the entries that you replace stay in the dropdown list even though you said to delete them. The entries are in fact deleted but you must exist the Find/Replace window and re-launch it in order for the dropdown list to be updated. Also, if you were to exit the Find/Replace window and go into Manage Ingredients you will also see that the ingredient was deleted.

I will fix this in the next version.

A new version is available for download. V3.1.0.3.

This version fixes two issues:
  1. When replacing ingredients in the Find/Replace window, the deleted ingredient was being left in the drop down list even though it had been deleted.
  2. When importing recipes from a .XML file ingredients with duplicate names was being created.

This should resolve the issues that bcollier was having. Thank you bcollier for identifying the problem.

I am new to everything DIY related. I need something to help me not kill my self.
I have a bunch of 24mg. Juices with various pg/vg ratios. I simply want to lower the nic. With vg. Will this calculator work for that?
