Her HotRod! I want to say thanks for the hard work and endless hours you are putting into this, this calculator is by far the best one out there. I do have a question about it though. If I install the newest version, is it gonna add back all the duplicate ingredients that I have been so diligently deleting? And will it delete my recipes that I have created?

I just updated to the latest release, and can confirm that none of your recipe files will change. Rod has also done a good job of maintaining your user settings, even with the new options added, and the new interface.

Spazzer and rachet62 are both correct, all recipes and ingredients are stored in a file separately from the program an will not be affected when you install the latest version.

I want to thank everybody for your feedback but I gotta say that most of the ideas for features came from all of you. Keep the feedback coming.

I'm going to be roundly chastised because I can't think of any way to ask my question without appearing ungrateful. Please understand that I'm not ungrateful...

HotRod - while I am an old duffer I am still pretty facile with technology. I *know* you could make some money if you could come up with an IOS version of your calculator. I would love to use my iPad for calculating and record keeping in my DIY hobby. There is an app for calculating available but it's pathetic compared to yours.

Thanks for all your hard work. I am grateful.

Tim

(Just an idea for you...)

You aren't going to be chastised by me.
I would like to create both a web based version and a version for IOS. The only thing holding me back is time and money. Money to buy the Apple hardware which is required to setup the development environment and time to learn the Apple development environment and convert the application to run in that environment. It is on my radar but I recently started a new job and a lot of my spare time is being used coming up to speed on the new position. I wished I could say "soon" but I would be fooling myself along with you and others.

Someone just found a bug that had been there for a while. The bug affected the Tools option to "Build a recipe from ingredient amounts". If you were using a recipe with no nicotine (Nicotine = None) an exception would be thrown when you invoked the build option.

I just posted a new version which fixes the bug, V3.1.0.7. If you don't use the build option and you don't use recipes with no nicotine you shouldn't need to download this version.

What's the cost of the Apple hardware? I too think you could make money by making this an app. If you are looking for investors I would be interested. Not to mention I would also love to run this on my iPad or on my Macbook Air without using Parallels.

Very cool. I don't feel bad for the idea anymore, and hotrod was very kind. Go! DennisLee...

What if I had a recipe that I wanted to modify? How can I bring up a recipe, modify it, and then rename it as say, version 2? But still keep the original recipe as is.

I need to create a "copy" option and will put it on the list.
There is a work around, select Tool->Modify recipe and then click the Save As button and give it a name. That will do the same thing as a copy.

Question for y'all. Currently when you create a new recipe it creates the recipe based on the template you identified in the options.
I don't like that (any more). Should I continue doing that or should I model the new recipe after the recipe you currently have displayed?

Not sure I understand. The template works well, especially in my case, as I almost always add water as a thinner.

If you use the current recipe, not sure how that would work? How would you decide which ingredients to use for the new recipe?

I created a recipe called AATemplate, and use that as my defaults.

It would be pretty fantastic if recipes could be "threaded" so that, in the main recipe menu one can pick "Strawberry Cheesecake" for example, and then load, from a second pulldown menu, various versions, each with their own notes and the like. As it stands, my recipe list is quickly being filled up with dozens of minute varieties of recipes, labeled "version 1, version 2, version pi, version 4" etc...

I pretty much always start my recipes in the same manner, and modify from there, I prefer as is, but see your point, I know you probably don't like the addition of more options, but that may work. I like the idea of threaded recipes, I have a number of R1,2, etc. I've since been using the notes to maintain a list of changes, works, but not as elegant as a threaded approach.

Great job and I appreciate the work!

When adding flavors the ingredients scroll hiding the Nicotine and "Add" button. These should be located outside the ingredients list.

When printing a label the Print dialog appears rather than a preview.

You can resize the program window to show all ingredients without any scroll, at least that is what I do.

Normally, resizing window would allow all ingredients to show. I can get about 20 flavors to show at full screen on my setup. After that, I get a Scroll Bar on the right side of the Ingredients area. This allows me to scroll up the list to see the "ADD" button and Nic entry.

Paddy, do you NOT get the scroll bar when you have 9 or 10 flavors? Couldn't tell from your screen shot.

Rod, it might work if you treat the Nic, PPG, VG entries as "static" in the window along with the "ADD" button (ie. Non Scrolling). Create a second scrolling sub-window that has just the Flavors and Other ingredients.

As for the Print Preview, I've reported this to Rod, and he has it on his list.

I'm on a 17" laptop and only get 9 flavors until I start to lose the "Add" button and yes I get the scroll bar. "treat the Nic, PPG, VG entries as "static" " is what I said just in different words.

Not a big deal, just thought I'd bring it up.

It's a good observation. I expect Rod will address this issue as well.
