One more question, what is the intended purpose of folders in the ingredient editor and how is this feature used?
@skineedog I use the folders to distinguish between flavors, nic,pg,vg as shown below. I can keep track of them easier that way.

I fill this out as I am adding a new ingredient. Just my 2 cents.....

I hope this explains some of the questions that were asked:

Inactivating an ingredient – The ingredient will continue to be shown in a recipe that is using the ingredient but when you are adding a new ingredient to a recipe the inactivated ingredients will not be listed as one of the ingredients to choose.

Folders – Refers to the same field that is labeled category in the ingredient window. I need to change the label on one of them so that they match. This field is used when you have an option set in “Tools->Options”, “Ingredient defaults” tab, “Display ingredients by category”. If you have set the category value for some ingredients you will notice a difference in the dropdown list that is displayed when adding ingredients to a recipe. The ingredients will be displayed in groups (by category value) allowing you to navigate up/down one level. Note; some people have had a problem with this feature which causes an exception to be thrown. I have not been able to make this problem occur to find what is causing it.

I am still having that error so had to turn it off.

Apologies if this has been mentioned before but I can't find anything in this thread via search.

Is it possible to update inventory from the shopping list? For example, I create a list of flavors to buy, order them and when they arrive I'd like to just click on the shopping list (either all / individual) and update the inventory automatically.

No, there isn't a way of doing it but it's not a bad idea. Let me give some thought on how to tackle it.

Love this calculator after lurking around for one with inventory check, wish more phone apps would integrate xml files to update recipe/inventory. (might look into doing one myself after looking through)

On another note could you invoke inventory reduction on print? That'd be useful  Sending a beer over:party:
I am working on a new version with several changes, this will be included.

This will be included in the new version I am working on. For any ingredient you are removing from the shopping list you will be prompted to see if you want to add the quantity amount back to your inventory.

I have a “beta” version of the calculator ready but I would like to solicit others to test before I make it generally available. There is one substantial change that I would like others to test before releasing the version, the ability to encrypt your juice file. Many of us may chose not to use this ability but I have received previous requests for this feature.

If you are willing to test here is what you should do:

1. Make a copy of your juice file to test with and do this before installing the beta version. You can do this either thru windows explorer of from the calculator by doing a “File->Save As”.

2. Install the beta version, V6.0.3.9. You can download “PortableSetup_Beta_V6.0.3.9.zip” or “Setup_Beta_V6.0.3.9.zip” from
https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0ByHCyknRKMBCTjQ0d0pEWklsSnc&usp=sharing
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ceu7kr789fq5wdt/Lmw4X_Xg9j

3. You will notice an annoying message every time you launch this version. It will tell you that there is a new version available and ask you if you want to install it. SELECT NO. The reason for the message is that this version is a different version than the “auto update” version.

4. The changes related to encryption:
- When you do a “File->Save As” you have the option to select a “Save as type” of “Encrypted xml files (*.xmlEnc)”. You should choose this file type to encrypt your Juice file. It will prompt you for a password that must be at least 8 characters long.

- Every time you tell the calculator to open a file with a .xmlEnc extension it will prompt you for the password.

- The calculator always remembers the last file that you had opened and when you launch the calculator it will prompt you for the password of the file it is trying to open (if it is a .xmlEnc file).

- Note that the calculator doesn’t store or remember your password. If you lose the password the calculator can’t help you get it back.
5. There are some other changes that are included in this version. The other changes include:
- When copying a recipe and creating a new recipe the “Category” value wasn’t being set in the new recipe. Fixed.

- I renamed the “Category” label on the ingredient window to “Folder” to be consistent with other areas that the ingredient folder/category is displayed.

- I made a change to remember the size of the shopping list window. Every time you open the shopping list the size will be the same size that you last made it.

- When ingredients are being removed from the shopping list you will be prompted to see if you want to increase your inventory by the “quantity” on the shopping list entry.

NOTE1: This will only apply to ingredients added to the shopping list after installing this version.

NOTE2: The inventory for the ingredient will not be adjusted if the ingredient was deleted from the juice file.

NOTE3: The inventory for the ingredient will not be adjusted if a different juice file is open and it does not include an ingredient with the same name.

Backed up the original recipe file, installed the app, opened the app and loaded the recipe file, saved as encrypted, closed the app, restarted the app, entered password, everything is there as far as I can tell.

Seems to work for me.

HotRod: Thanks a bunch for your awesome work on this calculator. I just have a small request and it should be easy to implement. For prices/value it's coded to be $(Dollar). Could you make "Currency" an option under settings so non-americans can use local currency without having to look at a "$"?
I know it's just aesthetics, but it keeps bugging me haha
Also, $ is in front of the value, other currencies should perhaps be behind.

A few months back I started a thread about a new calculator that was available. Since that post I have received a lot of good input and have made several updates and added new features. I encourage you to download and try out the latest version. All feedback is welcome.

Download links:

A summary of its features:
Define and save ingredients
  • PG/VG percentage levels
  • Nicotine level (pre-mix ingredients)
  • Drops/ml and grams/ml
  • Cost of ingredient
  • Notes associated with ingredient

Define and save recipes
  • Nicotine, PG and VG level
  • Selection of defined ingredients to add
  • Notes associated with the recipe
  • See resulting amounts to add (drops, ML’s, grams) and total cost of the recipe

Modify an existing mix
Have you ever created a mix and would like to change the nicotine level, increase or decrease a flavor percentage, change the PG/VG ratio or add additional ingredients while maintaining the same ratios of your other ingredients? The “Modify recipe” option will do this. After making your changes you will be informed how much of each ingredient to add to bring your existing mixture to the new levels.

Build a recipe by entering ingredient amounts
Have you ever mixed something up by throwing together several ingredients and wanted to create a repeatable recipe by specifying the amount of each ingredient added? The “Build recipe” option will do this. Enter the amount of each ingredient added and then save the new recipe.

Includes a calculator to “Dilute nicotine” to a different mg/ml level and dilute to obtain a different PG/VG ratio.

Export your recipe(s) and ingredients to Excel.

Import your existing recipes from other popular calculators.

Search your existing recipes to find recipes that contain one or more of the ingredients specified.

Before you start using the calculator, make sure you setup your preferences on how the calculator operates by going to the “Options” window.

I'll check it out - I was putting one together myself for a bit using Xml (I'm a programmer), but decided to use what was available already

I will investigate. I have no experience in working in other currencies but I believe that . Net has something built in.
