"So you want to use cartomizers".... Yes I do.

Well, I haven't found a good method of cleaning cartomizers that pulled the flavor out of them UNTIL NOW....

I've used cartomizers (Halo G6, smok 510) and Cartomizer tanks (Smoktech eGo DCT tank), and MEGA Cartomizers (Smoktech MEGA Cartomizers from The Vapor Room) for some time now, and like them very much. My fear with the CE's, Stardust, etc. is the silican wicks putting shards in my lungs, and haven't wrapped my mind around the SS wicks yet, and tipping during drags, etc... I don't notice a bad taste with cartomizers and seem to be sticking to them.

The problem is to switch flavors, it's always been a hassle. Or to just clean them if they get gunked up, etc. (I know there are people who will say, just throw them away idiot) but I'm one of those people who wants to get every dime out of them, and take it on almost like a challenge to see how long I can get them to last... So here's my cleaning story.

Boiling - I started with boiling 15 minutes, shaking out, boiling, shaking out, etc... Still had flavors and also had flavor migration from one to another in the pot I was using.
Add Spinning - I then made a contraption made of poly block that I drilled out attached to a string that I put the cartomizer in, and swing it in circles after I boil them, to get everything out of it (works really well) but still had flavors in them.
Add Baister - I then tried the baister method where I used a Turkey baister to suck and blow out water and that STILL didn't work with some heavy flavors, because most of fluid was just going in and out of the air tube, and not penetrating the poly fill near the coil and flushing it out.
Add Everclear - I then bought Everclear and tried soaking them, and that worked o.k. but still could have some taste in them, and it is a bit worrisum to me on the baister tube cracking, after repeated exposures to high alchohol everclear.
Add Syringe..... THIS WAS THE KEY..... I'm surprised I never though of this before. So here's my method, and it might help you also.
1. Run hot water through the poly fill in the cartomizer through the tap, or the baister method.
2. Put the cartomizers in a small bowl of Everclear alchohol (got at local liquir store for $10) and let them sit for a couple hours
3. Here's the key - Now pick them out one at a time and take a Syringe with a Non-Blunt sharp needle that will easily slide down through the side of the poly and metal interior wall.... Now suck up the Everclear they have been soaking in, and take your syringe needle and push it down to the bottom of the cartomizer and quickly evacuate the syringe down near the bottom and it will flush through the polyrill back up the top of the cartomizer taking the left over and burnt juice and flavor out with it. Turn the cartomizer and do this repeatedly until 5-10 times. This will thoroughly saturate and pull up the flavors, etc. out of the top of the poly fill and cartomizer top segment and you should be good.
4. Now grab a small glass or bowl, and do it with fresh everclear and let it drain the syringe pushed everclear from the bottom to the top of the cartomizer into the used everclear bowl, and then set the cartomizers aside.
5. Take them and shake them like a thermometer over the sink and let the excess everclear go into the sink. Or you can use the string swing method to really evacuate them of the everclear, or use the paper towl stuck in the end of the cartomizer trick to get the rest of the everclear out also, any method will work, but just make sure they are relatively dry.

This is the best method I've found even after watching methods of people making their own flushers with tubes and big syringes, boiling, etc... None of them totally worked for me, because they all had 1 fatal flaw. The water wouldn't totally break down the flavor alone, and you could never completely flush down into the bowls of the cartomizer or where the coil was at, and flush it up and out. The air tube was always the highest volume area, so that's where the flushing liquid went to. If you try this, I think it will work for you also. Please share if you like.... Thanks

pretty labor intensive to clean a few cartos that cost 6$ for a 5 pack if you ask me. Not to mention the cost of the cleaning materials involved (everclear, extra syringes, baster, "spinning device", a pot you can mess up that you won't use for cooking anymore).

I guess you're taking it too far and I'm with the crowd that says just throw them away.

what's next? dumpster diving at local brick and mortars for sloppy seconds? scavenging the last drops of juice in discarded bottles?

Good thoughts - I kind of added all the steps, but I pretty much just run hot water in them from the tap, then stick then in the everclear, and syringe them, and then pull them out after a bit, and they are good to go. That's the quick way and it works for me, but I wanted to add in all the extra stuff, so if people had really stubborn flavors, they can still get them out. I don't boil anymore, as it doesn't seem to do much. The hot tap water, everclear soak, everclear syringe, and dry works good.

A cartomizer cleaning thread---I haven't seen one in a long, long time. I love frugal.

Winemiller1, Everclear does a fantastic job of cleaning up ejuice--I use it on atomizers and my metal mod parts. While I don't doubt it works well, it is rather expensive for cleaning cartomizers.

Why don't you just have designated cartos for certain flavors? Then you don't have to get every bit of flavor out. Hot water and spinning would do the trick.

Also you could get an atty and drip for testing new flavors.

I'm glad you found something that works for you.
