Queensland health ramping up in its campaign.
...Also, since these are of "unproven benefit" it is better for smokers to keep lighting up the real thing. [*cough* *choke*]

From AussieVapers.
My only concern is second hand smoke.
I see no point in saving the lives of folks who choose to smoke. They clearly know the risk.
I'm all for smoking rooms as long as they hire only smokers to work there and provide full health care coverage for smoking related health issues for the life of the employees.

The subject of this discussion is Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ENDS), aka e-cigarettes. They use the process of vaporization, not combustion. Nothing is burned, so no smoke is produced. No smoke = no second hand smoke. Why do you hate smokers so much that you see no point in saving their lives? That's pretty cold. I haven't smoked in over two years. Do you still hate me, or did you only hate me back when I was a smoker who had tried dozens of times to quit without success? Do you wish that I had not been able to succeed in quitting by using ENDS, because you see no point in saving my life?

I posted the first several paragraphis of the News Hearald article as a response to a U.S. article on a smoking ban that wants to include e-cigarettes. This was the response it got:
I, of course, replied.
Sophie Dwyer needs to keep up-to-date on medical research. Miss Dwyer, look up these researchers' names: Bullen, Laugesen, Vansickel, Darredeau, Polosa. All have conducted research with smokers and found that e-cigarettes surpress nicotine abstinence symptoms without raising BP or heart rate. Have a chat with Dr. Coral Gartner at Queensland University. Look up these names: Etter, Heavner, Siegel, Goniewicz, Dockrell. All have surveyed consumers of e-cigarettes and found that users are successfully substituting them for their smoked cigarettes and reporting their health has improved. In fact, Dockrell of ASH UK found that 3% of UK smokers have made the switch. That's 300,000 fewer smokers in the UK. Wake up Queensland Health. These surveys show success rates of as high as 79%. Contrast that with the patches and gum QH is pushing -- at best a 7% success rate. The Heavner survey showed that 65% of the e-cigarette users had tried at least 4 times in the past to quit, and 21% had tried 10 or more times. Why do you insist on pushing folks into using what's ineffective? Do you still prescribe rubbing butter on a burn?
