It worked for me.

The message from the Australian health authorities seems to be that even though parents are capable of keeping their little children away from cleaning products and other household poisons, somehow e-cigarette liquid is different and there would be massive poisonings of little children if the product were not banned by the government.

[Doesn't it seem strange that in the UK and the US there have not been massive poisonings of little children from e-cigarette liquids?]

Also, since these are of "unproven benefit" it is better for smokers to keep lighting up the real thing. [*cough* *choke*]

Funny, google research didn't return results for this pandemic. Wonder if we're getting the old bait and switcheroo from the land of the kangaroo. A health professional stating "we've had over 70 (17?) seizures this month makes it sound like a medical calamity instead of Queensland authorities confiscating product, big difference.

I'm just happy I no longer live in Queensland. In fact I would never even visit there again! All those vapers who are thrilled to have finally quit smoking are now criminals. So now it's official - freedom of choice a is thing of the past in Queensland. I think all Aussie vapers need to stand up against this. First the government punishes smokers, so you quit and suddenly you are criminals. Is there something wrong with this picture?

When I was little got busted eating a crap load of flinstone vitimans by mom. Because she was vigulant, I was prevented from overdosing. I remember her freaking out yelling "dont you ever do that again!!!" while I was hurling lol. My mom didnt need any agency to take the finstone vitamins off the market to ensure my safety. She just learned that day I was an outstanding climber and moved them to a safer area.

To those who want to try and do her job for her, go parent your own damn kids!

That was a good article. Positive. But considering what has happened in Queensland, the campaign against e-cigs, you Aussies need to be sending letters to your law makers. The good people at CASAA can help you with the wording of the letters to write. Really, the Aussie government need to hear from Aussie vapers.

Seriously, this new legislation, or even just the threat of an $8000 fine for even possessing e-liquid containing nicotine is completely beyond belief! It would have to be one of the most awful and draconian things I've ever heard of. And based on? - pure greed for the love of tax revenue from tobacco sales, and pressure from the so-called health groups who I hope will eventually rot in hell where they belong. Sorry to offend anyone, but sometimes this all makes me so angry, I honestly just need to let out how I really feel.

I am a former Queensland resident. Knowing the mentality and corruption of the powers that be there, I vow to never return. After what has happened, I couldn't and would never want to go back.

I posted the first several paragraphis of the News Hearald article as a response to a U.S. article on a smoking ban that wants to include e-cigarettes. This was the response it got:

My only concern is second hand smoke.

I see no point in saving the lives of folks who choose to smoke. They clearly know the risk.

I'm all for smoking rooms as long as they hire only smokers to work there and provide full health care coverage for smoking related health issues for the life of the employees.

I, of course, replied.

The subject of this discussion is Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ENDS), aka e-cigarettes. They use the process of vaporization, not combustion. Nothing is burned, so no smoke is produced. No smoke = no second hand smoke. Why do you hate smokers so much that you see no point in saving their lives? That's pretty cold. I haven't smoked in over two years. Do you still hate me, or did you only hate me back when I was a smoker who had tried dozens of times to quit without success? Do you wish that I had not been able to succeed in quitting by using ENDS, because you see no point in saving my life?

Oh Richard, thanks! Missed it. These days there is so much going on I get involved and uninvolved in things without even realizing it. Not sure what I posted there but she had a bad reaction to the antibiotic she was on, they changed it and she's back in rehab until Tuesday when she goes home. Hopefully, she'll be able to keep herself safe.

I started reading his blog and the comments from yesterday and only got through the first 20 comments or so. I really would like to see him respond to some of what's posted. He comes off very weak with his approach.

Oh, T Bear's a golden retriever.

The title of this thread is incorrect, as Channel 9 simply did a story in response to the Queensland Health press release at: http://www.health.qld.gov.au/news/media_releases/qhe_cigs0515.pdf that is outrageously titled "Regional Queenslanders warned e-cigarettes are poison".

If anyone has a weblink for that Channel 9 video news clip, please post.

Found the Contact Us form for the Tobacco Program on the Queensland Health web site and left the comment below:

Sophie Dwyer needs to keep up-to-date on medical research. Miss Dwyer, look up these researchers' names: Bullen, Laugesen, Vansickel, Darredeau, Polosa. All have conducted research with smokers and found that e-cigarettes surpress nicotine abstinence symptoms without raising BP or heart rate. Have a chat with Dr. Coral Gartner at Queensland University. Look up these names: Etter, Heavner, Siegel, Goniewicz, Dockrell. All have surveyed consumers of e-cigarettes and found that users are successfully substituting them for their smoked cigarettes and reporting their health has improved. In fact, Dockrell of ASH UK found that 3% of UK smokers have made the switch. That's 300,000 fewer smokers in the UK. Wake up Queensland Health. These surveys show success rates of as high as 79%. Contrast that with the patches and gum QH is pushing -- at best a 7% success rate. The Heavner survey showed that 65% of the e-cigarette users had tried at least 4 times in the past to quit, and 21% had tried 10 or more times. Why do you insist on pushing folks into using what's ineffective? Do you still prescribe rubbing butter on a burn?

And perhaps the hand-in-glove partnership between the Queensland government and Big Pharma explains Miss Sophies enthusiasm for the nicotine patch:

Queensland Consumer Watch: Nicotine patch bonus for quitters of smoking being considered by Federal Government

[I have been inhaling fatal poison for over two years. Shouldn't I at least have a headache or upset stomach by now?]
