Hello everyone,

I am a ECF newbie--this is my first post. So glad this community is here! Hello everyone!

I've been researching e-cigs for a couple of weeks and know only the basics. I visited my local tobacco shop and purchased the No. 7 starter kit, but it only has one battery. Although I like the taste of the tobacco flavor, I am a bit disappointed in the throat hit experience. If I do a pull like a regular cigarette and inhale it directly, the throat hit is too much. If I hold the vapor in my mouth and then inhale, it's too little throat sensation.

Also, with No. 7s you just have the choice of tobacco or flavored; the prefilled cartomizers don't even say what their nicotine content is. I don't really like that. I think I should have held off and purchased a different starter kit, but I was so excited to try it. I do see the potential of it to be really awesome...at least I have hope!

This brings me to my confusion. I read some advice (I think on this forum) for how to smoke e-cigarettes. The point of the article was to explain that with e-cigs it's best to combine the mouth, nose, and lung membranes to receive nicotine. I also got the message from the article that you shouldn't smoke the e-cig like you do an analog cigarette--e.g., you shouldn't directly inhale from a pull.

This confuses me because if you're not supposed to do a direct inhale, why is there all this talk about "throat hit?" There must be some direct inhaling going on, since that's part of the main experience of smoking (except for pipes and cigars I think) at least for me. Why am I so confused? Am I over thinking it?

I'm thinking that I want to try a 510 model with a bigger battery and refillable thingies so I can try different juices. I do like the No. 7 tobacco flavor and they are supposed to have good tasting fruity and chocolate flavors.

I usually smoke Kentucky's Best Gold/Light 100s (which is not a national brand; it's a local Kentucky-grown smaller company in Cynthiana, KY). I guess I'd compare it to a Marlboro Light 100 but it tastes cleaner like the Light (Yellow Box) American Spirits (which in my tiny town no one sells).

Any advice regarding a good choice for me--and any thoughts on the whole throat hit thing? I am looking to experience a throat hit, but also to smoke them "correctly," whatever that means. LOL. Would love to hear your thoughts!

Thanks so much & be well!

Too bad you aren't in Louisville I'd let you try out one of my Smokeless Image X2's and some of the juices I have. We even have a local guy that makes juices.

I found that the normal "Cigarette" ecigs weren't good enough for me last time I tried to quit and finally got talked into buying a larger battery, with a tank type system and shopping around for juices I enjoy. I really like tobacco flavors and thats a hard one to get a good flavor.

So far my favorites have been Pipe Dream, with 18 MG Nic from Purevapes.com, and Midnight Express Niquid from Smokeless Image.com. I have some Boba's Bounty which everyone recommended coming in later this week.

I get a good throat hit from all of them, and you can also customize your juice from Purevapes.

My setup is as follows.

Smokeless Image X2 Battery
Smokeless Image Bottom Coil T3 Clearomizers
Lots of tasty juices.

The clearo's are nice as you can just replace the heads on them and it's super cheap.

Looks pretty pricey for what you get. If i'm looking at the right one.

I found a couple of reviews for it, looks like your typical gas station e-cig. As far as the draw goes. It just takes a little practice. With a 5 second cut off it's going to be tough to get enough of a hit to satisfy.

I'd recommend you get a decent kit. If you are looking for a cigarette style take a look at the smokeless image volt like Cyric suggested. If you don't mind something a little bit bigger, take a look at the KGO or Rivas which would be more like a cigar size.

So I kinda had the same experience when I first started. It's taken a couple weeks to find what worked for me. And it's pricey to find that unless you're lucky. I'm a big throat hit guy too and I've found it has a lot to do with the juice you're using as much, if not more, than the equipment. I've smoked several juices out of the same hardware and have gotten the throat hit I desired out of different juices. As far as how you hit it, I'm still perplexed as to why some of you used to hit cigs like peoplel hit pot. You were never supposed to inhale cigs directly with the lungs! However, knowing both techniques, I do both depending upon which juice I'm vaping. If it's light and I need a bigger throat hit, I'll inhale directly with the lungs, if its a little harsher, I'll inhale it like you're supposed to do with a cigarette and breath it into the mouth and then inhale. From what I've learned, this is a trial and error experience and money will be wasted trying to find the right fit. But don't give up. It's way better than smoking.

Wow, thanks for all the great answers. I had no idea that people inhale cigarette smoke into their mouths, then into the lungs--never thought about it. I'm gonna try that out with my regular cigarettes--maybe it will facilitate the transition. I haven't ever had a problem with heartburn with direct inhaling. I'm sorry to hear some do!

I'm looking into the Rivas, eGos, KGOs, and smokeless image x2 with clearomizer. All the things you guys recommended. I don't care if the e-cig looks like a cigarette or not. Actually, I kind of like the idea of it not looking like a cigarette.

I'm interested too, Cyric, in just what part of the clearomizers you replace with a new "head." I definitely want to do my own refilling so I can try out different juices. I guess it would become obvious which part to replace once you got it and saw the parts.

Woe is me living in a tiny town and not having access to a store where I could look at a larger selection and try stuff out. Would make it so much easier. Do people often order online and return things if they don't like the product? Anyone done or tried to do that?

Thanks, y'all :) Hejira <3

cant go wrong with an ego as a starter, you will only get frustrated with a mini/pen with batts running out, attys drying out, lack of air flow, time out etc etc, may be worth trying an ego with a tank system, clearomisers are good starters for simplicity, i use a nova and ego twist, also for testing juice maybe worth buying test liquids or a mixing kit, getting a 510 atty(if your batt has a 510 connection) and testing juice with the dripping method, the amount of grim liquid that i unwillingly vaped or poured down the sink when i started annoyed the hell out of me, could have saved enough cash for some new hardware!! good luck mate, happy vaping!!!

i have the inferno starter kit. it's fine i like it, the fact it has a pass through makes it better than an ego to me. i wouldn't mind adding a twist battery to the equation but i wouldn't want it for my only battery. i don't think i will though. i don't care that much. just going to get a mod instead now that i know vaping worked and i haven't smoked for a few weeks.

Hey Monica, if you look on the smokelessimage site here Smokeless Image | Only The Best Electronic Cigarette | T3 Clearomizer

Theres the entry for the T3's and a seperate entry for the heads. So instead of buying the whole unit you can just replace the heads for 2.99, makes it easier to swap out when they go bad, or when you want to swap out new juices.

Keep that throat wet! Vaping was EXCRUCIATING to me initially because of the throat hit, even at low nic and low voltage. I was a 3 pack a day of NATURAL AMERICAN SPIRITS smoker and I also smoked cigars and pipes on a daily basis. My throat was practically scarred black. The difference was when a friendly vaper told me to DRINK WATER while vaping. Every other puff take a small sip to wet your throat. It works wonders. Eventually you don't have to drink during vaping, but do continue to make sure you stay hydrated.

Clearomizers do not all have replaceable heads. I have a couple with replaceable heads, and several Ce4's which do not. On one hand, it is not very expensive to replace the entire unit if it doesn't have replaceable heads. On the other, the heads are less expensive than the entire units. If I was more motivated I'd post pictures of the units on which the heads are replaceable. Either way, it's costing me less than 1/5 of the cost to vape as it did to smoke.

I have been smoke free and vaping for about a month and a half now and for over a month of that time I have been usingSSmokeless Image Spinners along with regular cartomizers, CE3's, X2'S and T3's. I have been generally happy with these products and the batteries have performed well. The issue for me are the delivery systems. In one month 6 of my 10 CE3's and both of my X2'S are dead. And before any asks yes I ran them at appropriate voltage per ohm ratings. The X2's, compared with many new 510 equivalent devices, are not rebuild able. I would love to try a carto tank, a Evod, a Anyvape BCC, a Drunkard, a Vivi Nova or any of the great looking delivery devices on the market, and trust me if you continue vaping as a replacement for smoking and enjoy it as much as I have you will too. Unfortunately that won't be an option without a industry standard connection like the 510, unless you try your luck with an adapter which is not a sure thing. Just my two cents, I have enjoyed my 808 threaded Smokeless image equipment but have become frustrated with the limitations.

Try discountvapers, vaporbank, or hoosierecigs for eGo stuff, they are all pretty cheap and ship fast. You can find them almost anywhere though if there is a retailer closer to home for you. For clearomizers, I like Kangers or Vivi Nova's. With Kangers, you have T2's and T3's. The T2's are top coil and will have more throat hit and a warmer vape. The T3's are bottom coil and provide a cooler vape, less throat hit. Vivi Nova's are top coil as well. The coil heads are threaded and just unscrew, T2's unscrew from the top and T3s and Vivi's come out the bottom. They are both really easy to fill. For batteries, I would look at spinners, twists or maybe the kGo VV as variable voltage is nice to fine tune your vape and isn't much more then a normal unregulated eGo. I would stick with 510/ego threaded batteries as there are way more atomizers that fit them.
Hope this helps.

don't get discouraged. it's all trial and error. you are going to have to figure it out as you go. and the awesome people on here will be happy to provide input. if at first you don't succeed. as the saying goes. all i can tell you. the payoff is well worth any minor difficulties. vape, drink, urinate, and live longer. good luck
