Hi all,I have ordered and received the Elusion starter pack (which most in OZ seem to start with), and have been researching on side affects like crazy. As with most things on the net, you can get bad & good advice, and end up quite daunted by it all.I was quite concerned about inhaling the PG, but I do feel better after I found a list of ingredients in my cigarettes I've been smoking for some 20 odd years, or more.

Longbeach Fine Flavour King-Size Hard Pack 20'sProduct Weight: 0.848 g
tobacco Weight: 0.600 g
Ingredients listed in descending order by weight
tobacco
water
propylene glycol
natural & artificial flavourings
cocoa and cocoa products
glycerol
-------------------

So in conclusion, I have decided to put that cartridge on the Elusion battery when it's charged, and give it a go (possibly parked near a hospital lol). I do have some reactions to aftershave, air freshner sprays etc, so this is the reason for most of my concerns. Could be the fragrance though. My son runs a fog machine in the house pretty often, and apart from an odd smell, doesn't bother me too much. Feel more comfortable trying it out now I know I've been inhaling PG in my current cigs for so long - around 30 a day.

Does anyone have any comments on whether the PG in e-cigs will be tolerated in a different way to the traditional cig?

Appreciate all the information I've already read here on the forum, and look forward to giving feedback on my progress on the e-cig, which btw, my DR told me about. I'd never heard of them before, so thank you to a very progressive DR in my case. :)

since everyone is different, some people have different reactions. some are sensitive to pg, vg, or specific flavorings. Best thing to do is see how it goes. take it one step at a time. the good thing is there is so many options out there: all pg, all vg, all natural flavorings, all organic flavorings, etc

So far from what I have read those that do have a problem with pg it isn't lasting effects. Also the percentage of people that do seem to be small. If that is the case though there is 100% VG juice that you could use. Plenty of choices of flavor and vendors that way too. Welcome to the forum and enjoy the better lifestyle!!

Why did you highlight propylene glycol? I would be more worried about flavorings and colorings than PG. Hospitals use vaporized PG to deliver inhaled medications, even to lung transplant patients. Concert fog is also PG.

What you need to watch for mainly...

One is nicotine irritation (nicotine is a strong skin irritant and PG lets flavor, nic hit and nic irritation through best). Try not to get liquid in your mouth. On cartomizers I use a plastic or delrin drip tip to bring the vapor in as a wider stream past my teeth. And I keep it clean of any juice that creeps up. Also if you get liquid on your hands wash them - it probably won't hurt your hands but if you just wipe your hands off with tissue that does not get it all off - if you later touch your face or eyes you can get dry patches from the nic.

The other thing to watch for is getting too much nicotine in too short a time period. If you do that the most common symptoms are headache, rapid or irregular heartbeat, hazy ill feeling. If that happens to you then switch to a lower nic level or vape less.

And the third thing is dehydration - vaping is drying so you need to stay hydrated.

Also - if you have auto batteries (no button) some people get sore face muscles, muscle headache, or flareups if they have TMJ from dragging hard. Try not to drag hard. And I recommend manual batteries if you can get them - easier to drag softly, more control of your hit.

Thanks everyone.

Thank you for all the information dormouse. I highlighted PG as it's the main ingredient in the E-Cig carts, and one a few people seem to possibly have an issue with.

I don't really understand the drip tip yet. It's the Elusion kit, so the cart just screws onto the end of the battery. As I'm guessing the vapor will be moist, how will I know if I'm getting liquid in my mouth? I know to hold it level, so the juice doesn't flow into your mouth, but I wasn't sure how easy it is to inhale it in if you do drag too hard.

It doesn't have a button, just auto, so I'll see how I go. I got a shipping quote from Smokestik, and I think it may work out too expensive to get those here in Australia. I'll keep looking around.

Thank you again all. Hopefully will not get that juice in my mouth! :p

Well I gave it a shot, but nothing happened. I had a feeling my battery may be faulty as the 'green' charged light never appeared, even after an overnight charge. So I screwed an atomizer (prefilled one) on anyway, took a drag, inhaled, whatever the lingo is lol, but just breathed in a little taste of something, but no vapor or light going on the end of the battery. No light on the end of the battery at all, regardless of how hard I tried to drag on it.

So.... hehe, does that mean the battery is faulty, the cart could be a dud blank one, or I'm a complete noob, or all three ! :p

Welcome! I know everyone is different, but I've gotten juice in my mouth and it just stings a little, doesn't hurt, but it did make my tongue a little numb for a minute. The taste didn't bother me either. I just ordered a manual battery (should come today) and I'm very curious to see the difference. My first ecig was from a convenience store, some cheap crappy china made thing and it felt like sucking a watermelon through a straw. Got a better quality battery and it was a lot easier.
Have fun playing around with different batteries and juices. It's well worth it!

Wouldn't recommend going from 30 cigs a day for 30 years to nothing but vaping "cold turkey".

Vaping only gives you the experience and the nicotine. "Nicotine" tends to be used almost interchangeably with "cigarettes"; People tend to associate all of their effects. In reality, that's far from true. Nicotine is just one of many addicting substances in cigarettes. Perhaps not even the worst of them. Everyone's reaction is different, but switching abruptly like that can have some nasty side effects. Irritability, anxiety, depression, etc...

Long story short: Even with vaping you will most likely go through withdrawal. Might be a better idea to taper off the real cigarettes slowly. Allow yourself to transition, rather than forcing yourself to switch instantly.

Thanks SubSplat, that's what I plan to do. I've been cutting back on my cigs before vaping (around 10 less a day so far), and I was going to go very slowly, maybe half and half ??

BUT... if this one I have now doesn't even work, it will be very slow !!

Does anyone know if they would consider my battery faulty if it failed to charge to green over a 24 hr charge, or should I try another prefilled atomizer? It is a 2 piece e cig like the smokestik.

If the prefilled atomizer was faulty, would the light at the end of the battery still light up, because my e cig battery has never lit up to emulate a cigarette. It just does nothing at all regardless of how hard I dragged on it. Thanks.
:)

Oh and I read up on drinking heaps of water, and a glass after vaping if possible, and I will certainly make sure I do that.

Subsplat its different for everyone. My mother was a 30+ yrs smoker and I was a 20+ yrs smoker both at a pack to pack 1/2 a day we quit the stinkies the first day without major cravings or withdrawl. Some find they drastically have a decrease in the amount they smoke and taper that off fairly soon. Some find using snus with the ejuice works. If you find you need a few cigs don't beat yourself up a few is better than 30 a day. Trick is when you find yourself reaching for a cig ask is this a true craving or is it just a habit to reach for these. FOR ME I found that by taking a few puffs off the e-cig I didn't want the analog cigs anymore so it was more habit than true craving. Regardless of which one works for you congrats are still in order because you are taking a great step in your life!

Hi chickoz,

I had been smoking tobbacco for many years until seven days ago I have tried lots of different smoking cessation or nicotene therapy products including patches a drug called zyban (now banned) gum, sprays and lozengers none of them really worked.

vaping has been my saviour in the fight against stopping smoking and I intend to stick with it, if you like sweet toffee flavour you wont go wrong with some RY4 e-liquid for your vapourizer, cartridges are supposed to be cheaper to use than vapourizers called carts on here in places, I started on the 18mg nicotene liquids and I intend to reduce that to a lower nicotene level in time. Tobbacco flavours are a bit hit and miss some liquids are PG based and some VG/veg oil based and others are a mix of the two, the PG gives a harder hit on the throat and can give you a sore throat to whereas the VG based product is a softer hit on the throat and may not give you a sore throat.
I started on a Smokers Angel e-cig but the cartridges were a tad expensive to replace an automatic electronic cigarette quiter heavy to hold in your lips though but very effective if you are used to holding a cigarette, I wasnt actually aware how much of smoking was just about habbit until I had the e-cig.
if I had known about the vapourisers first I woulodn't have wasted my money on the e-cig I would have gone ahead and bought just the vapouriser, the model I ended up with is a Riva 1100 the battery life is brilliant so far it has lasted me two days which isnt bad the e-cigs lasted about four hours of vaping befoe they needed charging. you get two battery packs with most kits anyway so one on charge and one in use. the cost in Aus Dollars for the Riva 1100 was $49.83
two batterys Pink, Black, gold or white colours to choose from ten cartomisers/vapourisers removed from packaging and replaced with cartomisers, usb charger, drip tip, no mains charger included you would need a mains usb charger plug.
Riva do say that the first battery charge should be 8 hours followed by 20 mins vaping and then a further 1 hour charge.
if the batterys fail during the guarrentee they will ask if you conditioned the batterys at first use. The Riva 1100 is not an automatic vapourizer you do need to press a button but its a lot easier than you think to get used to. Ive got a gold Riva and its brilliant. I bought it from Electronic Cigarettes | Vaping Devices | Accessories | E-Liquid and used the discount code allabout for 10% off the code seems to work with anything you buy from them.

Whatever you decide is best for you enjoy it and good luck with it.
