It is quite frankly appalling – lacking any legitimacy in public health or internal market policy-making… Make no mistake, if implemented this proposal bans every product on the market today and would severely limit options for future products...

Thanks for starting this thread Toby - definitely needs bringing to people's attention.

As rizzyking said, it can only be BT & BP driving this forward - left alone there is no way they would be attempting (again) to implement ill-informed policy on this, especially where the overwhelming evidence is that ecigs are a much healthier option than continuing smoking.

Sadly the corruption in the EU does nothing to prevent this sort of thing I'm not a xenophobe and am happy for the UK to both trade and cooperate with our European neighbours but we need out of the monster that is the EU and I think it will only change when member states leave or are seen to be seriously considering leaving. I was a long term smoker now tobacco free thanks to ecigs and it's the only thing that has kept me off tobacco I'm not unique my story is repeated amongst tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands worldwide that shouldn't be ignored in the way it is and shouldn't be allowed to be stopped because of vested interests. We all need politicians to truly represent the best interests of the people that elect them not big business or those with the biggest brown envelopes wouldn't that be a refreshing change.

But the MHRA are a UK goverment agency that are pushing for the medicinal regulations. In fact, i am slightly confused as their website clearly states that the UK Government WILL regulate ecigs as medicine - am i missing something here?

Actually that is a statement before the fact.. but it (medicalisation) is certainly what they are planning...

Medicalisation of e-cigs has already been successfully challenged by 5 courts in the EU:
Netherlands Court of the Hague
The ruling of Administrative Court of Köln
The Supreme Court of Sachsen-Anhalt State
NRW Higher Administrative Court in Germany
Tartu Administrative Court on behalf of the Republic of Estonia

And also in the USA:
U.S. Court of Appeals, District of Columbia Circuit, December 08, 2010

E-cigs save lives, but are not used to treat a disease; they are not a medicine.

Indeed! When i was reading it i had a feeling that it was written at a time when they were pre-empting a postive (from their point of view) ruling on the TPD. They shouldnt have had it up on their website in the first place, but then to not take it down or amend it is ridiculous. This isnt some under-resourced agency where little mistakes can be forgiven, it's a branch of government putting out false outdated information.

Yeah seen this and sent emails to both mp and Mep for all the good it will do it's disgusting the way they are going about this and the only reason I can see behind this is big pharma and big tobacco greasing the right palms.

That does seem to be the only possible reason, they are loosing money on tax and don't like it! Surely they can see the flip side of all the NHS savings to be had on reduced smoking related treatments. If they had any though for the health of smokers, they would be doing as much research and testing possible to get the hard facts on long term effects of vaping, for that they need us vaping guinea pigs :) Why with all the anti smoking health warnings do they aim to ban the first product that actually works? They keep claiming it's going to attract more young people to smoking, but vaping ain't smoking, yes you still get a nic fix but you also miss out on all the other nasty, addictive, disease causing tobacco chemicals, and you don't get the effects of passive smoking! If they are so concerned about what is actually in e-liquid, why don't they just licence it and say anyone can make it but you can't sell it to the public unless it's produced in a sterile environment using quality products.

We all know tobacco/cigarettes are evil, why not set a goal to wipe them out, we have a good alternative here, do they seriously intend to condemn people back to a life of smoking, I say give the ecig a chance to change the health of millions!

I apologize for the rant, now where's my coconut ice?

I traveled Australia between end of 2011 to the end of 2012 and just towards the end of 2012 Australia were starting to get the plain packaging on cigarette packaging which I imagine by now all cig packaging over there would be plain now, I think that is a pretty good idea BUT banning e cigs because the EU government are loosing money in tax's because of less tobacco sales is bloody MADNESS! I was reading something earlier that said that 99.9% of medical professionals are even saying that the use of e cigs are literately saving lives how can the EU ignore this?! There are millions of people who have made the switch to e cigs and using the alternative way which is saving their lives! I don't understand how the EU can simply ignore this and even think to try to outright just ban it all!!

Very angry about this all as I have tried many different methods to giving up smoking for years and all of them failed.. as soon as I picked up my first ego BAM I stopped and I was a vaper not a smoker... I'm hoping we get a lot of the MEP's on our side and this does not come into effect.

Looking into it though, it will be difficult for them to ban some things; For rebuildable guys like myself, kanthal wire and cotton will always be around so theres no problem there, DIY e liquid guys (just getting into it now :) ) PG, VG will always be around, flavourings will be easy to still get ahold of, alright the only real problem in the DIY department is the nic, but surely there will be a way to keep it around as nicotine is used as a pesticide.

Alright it will be harder to obtain certain mods and attys etc but surely we will all be using torches soon that double up with a 510 connection at the end ;)

but still..

Lets hope they have some common sense and this does not come into effect, rant over :)

Common sense and government?

Money grabbing prats is what they are, its all being led by greed ( tax revenue, pharmaceutical profit).

Did everyone see that petition and sign it? It was on this forum.

I'd better stock up on kanthal, e liquids, atomizers , drip tips, rechargeable batteries and bread ( its always the first to go).
