so i have been vaping for a while.. new to rebuildable.. so that's where my questions lie.
i have a vivinova 2.5 with a ego-t battery 650mah, also use a variable, and a 900mah.
so i'm wondering how long does a head last usually? and how do i know when to change it? i just checked mine and it's only been like 5 days and i think it's done...
also with the vivinova 2.5 there is like a thick papery thing in the head surrounding the coil. on my assumed dead head.. i pried it out and it came out without upsetting the leads of the coil. now i'm wondering if that's something that has to come out before you use it.. i don't know what it's for. my last vivinova didn't have that so i don't know what it's purpose is.
also.. the dead head was a 2.8 ohms. don't really get ohm-age at this point. especially if there it matters what kind of battery you use with the different ohm-ed heads.
i wondered if someone had a picture of the coil from a dead head. still assembled, obviously.. not just the coil. lol. i mean.. if it's black it looks like it's done. but i really don't know. and is there anyway to prolong a head? what's the best way to care for it and make it last? maybe short periods of vaping? am i vaping too much in a row? who knows.
sorry, just one more! how important is it to keep the liquid below the line? cuz you know... the vivinova is top heavy and that darn thing just tips over all the time. haha. i leave it standing straight up and down, but it's fallen a few times and gotten liquid up top past the line. how serious is that?
appreciate anyone who can help!

I have the same tank and have used the same coils for over 2 months. Did you try to dry burn it afte cleaning? Also I notice that depending on where you get your fluid you may have to clean more often. Just because it is black doesn't mean its done. This is usually due to the oils burning to the coil. That is why you have to dry burn the junk off so it vapes properly after cleaning. It stinks when you do it but after you have done it the head works like new. I got my tank at gotvapes and he has a video on how to properly clean this tank and the coils. It may be worth your while to check it out. Proper care for your tank will only extend the life of the components and save you money (eventhough the coils are cheap).

Hello juliaspike the heads last quite some time in fact the wick usually fails before the coil does. Yes as gzin44 says you need to clean and dry burn at least every 2nd tank full this will get you the most life out of your coil. The center paper that you removed is just a insulator and is really not needed at all it prevents your wire leads from touching the sides of the head as long as your coil is center you will be fine without it. I throw the center insulator out as well when i rebuild the head.

ok. that's probably it. not making contact. sometimes i tighten it too much. guess that is the consequence.
now i have a really stupid question. i wasn't going to ask.. but it's driving me crazy.
i was inspecting the head before i put a new one on just now. i took the rubber top off with the small round metal piece and the metal part moved from it's position. now i don't know where the heck it's supposed to go. is it supposed to make contact with the metal at the top by the coils? because i looked at my other one that i haven't used yet and there appears to be a small gap in between the metal. i don't want to mess up my head. is there supposed to be contact? is there not supposed to be? gah! hopefully someone knows. i will wait patiently.

the metal piece inside the rubber head can and will make contact when you screw the cap on it is fine an designed to work that way. it is what seals the tube.

just a quick add, with cleaning i have a head here thats almost 3 months old, thinking of taking a pic for everyone to see this poor raggity thing lol.

and the nova bottom post is well known to sometimes push the post on your battery down too far, not making contact after being unscrewed then screwed on again.

HEY!! lol. i'm sure there are other forums. but if you come back and read this... what tanks would you recommend that are really easy to deal with? and have no little quirks like the nova tuba thingy you just mentioned. just wondering if there was a great tank out there. waiting for me to buy it. haha. rebuildable of course. and something like the vivinova. or is that the best?

Could check out the Kanger T2/T3, both are rebuildable I believe. There is the ViVi Mini, which is very similar. As is the Vision "stardust" or whatever its called these days. All of them have replaceable heads.

Dunno how into DIY you are, and I'm probably starting to sound like a broken record...but rebuilding the VVN heads creates a whole different experience. Finicky for sure, but worth it.

hunter is that you?
i actually just ordered a SMOKtech ReDuX because i want a smaller tank when i go out. same as the one you mentioned.
tried the stardust. don't know why but it leaked like a .....
i'm becoming very diy... with this stuff. i really love vaping and switched to juices. i will have to deal with it as i go. better than carts for darn sure. thanks for the suggestions.

I wish I were even some minor form of Hunter :p

I had the leaking issue with my most recent stardust too. It gets bloody annoying. I have the ReDux also and it didn't leak a drop, though I would say meter the heads if you have a multimeter around (harbor freight generally has them for $10~) as they tend to be a touch off.
