Mine has survived many visits to the concrete. All I have ever got is a minor scratch. I go in and order 7 drip tips for my soon to be 7 DID family. Every tiny I drop the DID I break the drip tip. I typically carry 3 pv's and then a case with 3 more DIDs and some batteries.I used to carry wicks and coils but have now mastered coil wrapping- now I just carry a bit of wire.
I dropped my DID while on my ProVari off of my front porch (4 ft +) on to my concrete driveway running late with a handful of stuff. I was like ohhh nooooes and ohhh chit. Picked it up, drip tip shattered, & only a tiny scratch on the top cap of the DID. Ran in to grab another driptip, popped it in and she vaped like a train. ;) :toast:

Let this noob attempt to answer. ;)

What's breaking in is the coil, mostly. The resistance of the coil will settle, any metallic taste will go away (although if you heat your wire with a lighter or a torch before coiling, there shouldn't be much or any metallic taste), and the coil will just generally get more comfy on the wick. If I understand correctly, the wick is pretty much good to go if it's been made "properly." It will obviously continue to be seasoned as you vape it, though. Also, both the wick and the coil will start to build up "gunk" where they meet. A little bit of this gunk will make the vape nice, in my experience. Too much of this gunk will make it taste like gunk, in my experience. And then your wick and coil are really broken in!

People report different lifespans for coils, anywhere from a week to a couple months. Wicks should last for months, probably. And that's if everything is taken care of and "cleaned up" on a regular basis.

Well I missed "the panic", was too troublesome to keep up with the international tracking, so I just kicked back and waited. It would get here when it got here :) I was just thinking that it would probably be another week or so,(maybe longer if it got held up in customs for a bit, when this past Saturday it arrived :).
Today was the first time I've had the chance to play with it. Having zero experience with genesis style attomizers , I had some trepidation..

Well I layed out all my gear, made a wick and coil a la igetcha69's DiD vid..
1.) DiD and parts, mesh,etc.
2.) plumbers torch and water to quench(I have a chefs torch also, but the plumbers torch seems way stronger, it worked perfectly at any rate).
3.) Juice/tweezers/did wrench/bic lighter
4.) iPad with Mr.Mann's links to this thread, and igetcha69's YouTube vid.

Seemed to work fine, first coil was bit shaky, second one is a bit low on the ohms but no hotspots, massive vapor, guessing taste will dial n a bit as it breaks in. The second time I wrapped the coil on a 2mm bit separately, then slid the wick in. (I saw that in another vid somewhere, sorry i dont remember where, it worked though and the coils were much neater.) I was fully prepared to go buy some rolling papers, or possibly find out what the Jack Frost method actually is, but no need..The wick seems to be spot on. The thing hits like a mack truck! Next coil definately gonna shoot for a few more coils. I'm in the 1.2-1.4 range, a bit too low for my liking. Just thinking as I type this it would be easier to over coil, can always take one away, adding one not gonna happen ;) All in all pretty excited at my first attempt, it's certainly vapable and I feel like I have enough of a grasp of it to do it better next time..

My biggest worry was that I'm just not all that handy/mechanically inclined. Very glad to see that it's not really required;)

I think the wick is a winner, which is good because I should be able to use it for a good long while right?

The only thing I truly found "fiddly" about the entire coil making process was trying to get the two brass nuts to come together tightly enough and where I wanted them at the same time.

I think I am going to have to drop the nic level, I'm getting 2X the vapor so I imagine I'm also getting a good bit more nic as well.

How long does it take to "break in"? And what exactly is breaking in? The coil? The wick? I'm curious.

All in all I'm thrilled with my purchase and really looking forward to perfecting my build. Thanks to everyone who has contributed their expertise in this thread, I actually felt like I had a clue what I was doing when I got started..

Last but most, THANKS JIM!! Your work is amazing, I feel like I'm in control of my vaping life now. The powers that be can do what they like, I've got an atty for life! I'm no longer dependent on disposable parts! Woot!! And no sacrifice involved, in fact it's a HUGE improvement! Thank you, thank you, thank you!.

I got a Did early on. Just 2 videos out on it. They were mainly about the construction. I think the Did just got sold to so many first time users of genisis that they thought the fine art was specific to the Did. In return this thread give a negative impression sometimes. This is my only genisis. I was lucky. I went into it unbiased and it worked and still works great. I have said this before. They are not plug and play like a cart. But no means difficult.

Congrats and enjoy

As the nuts make sure the opposite sides of the nuts are put together. Think of it like magnets. N to S. Nipple to indent

The Mini DID

I just got this late last night. Ran home tonight after work, a quick polish up and took these pics while sun was going down.

I am very honored and grateful to Jim for making and sending me this special mini. All who know me, know I will treasure this always. Many thanks again Jim, I truly appreciate this very kind gesture to me. Looks and fits great on the GGTB and both will never leave home, lest something happen to this special mini.

I've yet to try root beer but have heard good things about alien visions barks root beer. Was thinking about ordering it. Which ones were bad?

Don't do it. I love Barq's root beer, but I've got most of the 10ml of this that I bought as a sample.

To me, it's not vapable.

If you still want to try it, PM me and I'll be happy to send mine to you.
