A 1mm airhole would have been my initial choice. Although I have found that adjusting to the airy draw was easier than I thought. I'm mixed as to whether I would take advantage of it at this point. I think I prefer the unrestricted feel.
Hi Jim, if it's not broken, don't fix it. It works great like it is.
I was going to say"If it ain't broken", but Jim is learning English so I didn't want to screw him up by talking Southern.

My last order didn't change on the tracking even when it was in my mailbox. Took a week exactly to get to me. I haven't even bothered checking the tracking on my second order ....will just get it in my mailbox one day soon.

Faint flavor typically means there is a short ....may not be able to see it. I had one coil that vaped up a storm but no flavor. I fired it until the wick dried then was able to see the hot spot. I now have a perfect coil and the flavor is delicious. The DID is certainly a harder genesis to prepare than the others I have. I did enjoy the challenge though .....enough to order a second one. It is the least leaky atty that I have and I don't worry about having it in my pocket. Take your time and tweak the coil until perfect then don't move anything.
Would like to hear from any others that have tried this method. Hard to believe a non-oxidized wick would not result in shorts but I think I understand the principle behind this...path of least resistance and all. Is the wick meant to 'float' within the hole and not touch the sides?

Perspective of "The did" by a genesis novice. The package arrived in the mail today, 7/2/2012. It was ordered on 6/19/2012. I consider this to be an excellent ship time. I have been on other order lists for months to no avail. Product was packaged well and all necessary parts were enclosed. As many others have stated, product was machined very well, and polished to high gloss.
Let me say I am a genesis novice however I have forearmed myself with this thread, rebuildable atty thread, and many youtube vids. I removed and washed parts in warm soapy water and used a tooth brush to clean and remove any oil. I purchased through Ebay, kanthal wire 33 a-1 and kanthal wire 32 a. I then turned on the video Jim did, and set up "The DID". I oxidized the mesh well, quenching in water several times until I was satisfied it was very carbonized. When folding I was careful to make sure no jagged edges were present, I also tightened the wick using the Allen wrench enclosed with the package, as Jim did. I used the cigarette paper technique at the end of the wrap for an added layer. I lightly heated and then wound my Kanthal 33 a-1 wire 4 wraps around the paper and wick, then inserted into hole. I did cut the bottom of the wick at a diagonal, per several youtube vids. I connected bottom wire, then top between the brass nuts.

Let me state, having read many many posts about the problem of shorts and what not with the genesis style in general, and THE DID in particular, I was ready to do combat, and expected to have an almost endless learning curve before perfection.
I cranked my lavatube to 3.7 volts and dry fired the atty. Saw smoke, did this a few times, saw smoke. Ok, you will probably ask, did all coils turn red, did I have hot spots? etc.... Don't know, seemed to work, and this was good enough for me. I added couple drops of juice on the wick, fired, and smoke arose. I filled the tank, and vaped.
Impressions:
On a 1-5 rating, 5 being best.
Vape production, 3 to 4, I am using a 80% pg fluid
TH, 3 to 4 at 3.7 volts, 4 at 4.4 volts
Flavor, a big 5. Flavor is the real key to this device in my opinion. I have been using Volcano King, 16mg, "Blue water punch", in my carts and tanks for months, never, and I mean never, did the Juice taste as good as in The DID. Subtle nuances came through that I didn't even know were in this juice. I cant say enough about the flavor, it is that remarkable. The flavor is already spoiling me for other devices!!
Please remember this was my first coil, and I have been using it a grand total of 5 hours. I think it may be improving on the above numbers as the hours go by, I am sure it is going through a break-in period. I am totally satisfied with my purchase and its performance. I will report at a later time to see how it develops.

I made sure the wick was well oxidized, I made sure the coil was floating outside the wick, and just gently guided the wire around the wick when coiling. I made sure the wick moved easily inside the hole, using the Allen wrench for this helped sizing, I made sure the wick did not touch the bottom of the tank. I made sure the wick was very close to the brass pin. I used a pin to space the coils relatively evenly around the paper. I used a cigar torch (came in handy for something now that I don't smoke anymore), to achieve the proper oxidation of the wick. I did lightly torch the wire also. Hope this helps all who need it.

Now that I have a working genesis with the did, with moderate vaping, how long will the coil wick last?? Does it go bad within a week, week and a half, like regular carts, or is life span longer.
Do we reuse the wick, or oxidize a fresh one every time we change coil?
Should I expect buildup of gunk which requires change, or cleaning?

Congrats on getting this working well. Oxidizing the wick very well and loosely wrapping the coil are 2 things most people mess up on(including me) the first time. Glad that you were patient and got it right and avoided a lot of frustration.
As for other stuff, this is coming from a genisis noob whose first RBA is DiD. From what I have heard, you don't need to change the wick for atleast a month. As for the coil, I have been puffing on my first Did constantly for almost a week and through several tanks of juice. Initially when I was changing juice, I would just wipe off the gunk/carbon accumulated over the coil. After almost a week, I decided to change the coil. Since I was changing the coil, I pulled out the wick, wiped off the gunk and gave a quick couple of toots with a compressed air canister(do this outside the house ) and put another coil on it and dry burned for a few seconds. Then added new juice and it's been working perfectly with no unpleasant taste.
So, I guess depending on how much you are vaping and how much gunk buildup you get, changing the coil once a week might be the par for the course.

I only got it right because of the many enthusiasts on the forum, (like yourself), willing to share their experiences with myself and others. I studied hard before I started and it paid off. Thanks for the advice on cleaning, and re-use. I will make Monday, coil changing day. I bought a life time supply of Kanthal off Ebay for the cost of two carts, very affordable having the ability to rebuild. Thanks again for your help
On the center post. He does not show them going on, but when he screws it into the base, you can see them on.
I'm also totally used to the present DID hole aperture and also use an AFC drip tip to further control the air flow. To experience the difference in hole aperture effect you can also put a piece of scotch tape over the hole and pierce it with a needle to desired size.
