Hmm, then think I made a mistake ordering the Mini to match the P+, perhaps I could bead blast it myself. Would hate to ruin the engraving though. Oh well, looks like I'll have to order a polished mini now too.

Don't worry about it! It's really not that hard to refinish your own mods! The finish of SS is pretty easy to work with, so you could always polish your P+ using a bristled wheel and black compound to achieve the machined look, polish it using spiral sewn cotton wheels+red compound and then canton flannel wheels+white compound to achieve a mirrored finish, or search around locally or online to find a shop that will media blast the DID for you rather than doing it yourself. Though if you do want to make a project out of it, I'm pretty sure there are some really inexpensive media blasting boxes out there that will definitely do the trick.
And on that note, I just polished my P+18650, but I taped off the ends so only the middle section would be polished. I'm not sure how I feel about it just yet, but after I polish a few more little things on it (the lock on the switch for instance, but i need to use my dremel to do that part, it's too small for my 6" wheels, it'd fly right out of my hands), I think it'll look a little bit better. This was really just an experiment to see if taped off areas would hold under the heat and friction created by the wheels and still produce clean cut lines, which it did! More experimenting to come! For now, here are some pictures of the final product:




And here it is all taped up. Disregard those gnarly smudges and swirl marks, after a good rub down with 3 gradients of microfiber cloths and some swirl mark removing powder, it's as polished as can be

I've been wanting a VMAX for a while, too, but I got a DID instead. Word on (maybe off) the street is that SmokTech has been working with a respected vendor on a variable voltage and variable wattage tube device that takes an 18650. I think it's gonna drop soon, and I think it could be a pretty nice PV. The (pre-)advertised amp limit is the same as the VMAX, but it looks like in VW mode it will only go from 3 to 15 watts. I don't know what to make of that, as I serve food and make soap for a living. Another word on (or off) the street is that it's dropping soon...

If and when I get the scratch to buy such a mod, I'll probably just get another DID instead...

Hey rwechsler thank you so much for the videos. I did take your advice and switched it over from the VMax to mech mod and better success. Actually initially I had it on my BAM with e-moli 3.8v 26700 batts in there and it really rocked with plumes but it looked so tiny on a 26mm mod that I decided to switch it over to a the chrome Vmax then the headaches began. Works well on my bolt as well but I like to use that for stacking at 7v. So until I can get things pumping on the VMax a mechanical mod it will stay.

Also if you decide to get a VMax and after tinkering with it and want to do a vid on tips and tricks to get it working 99.9% of the time that would be awsome.

Being that this was my 1st genesis style atty I guess I couldnt be expected to get it at the 1st try but 3rd or 4th could have kept me sane!!

Anyway going to go through that Vmaxx thread and see what was done with the DID to get it too work!


Oh and Jim thanks for the DID man excellent work in a 1 year or 3 I should be a pro!! LOL

It's all about getting your ears and the muscles in your mouth attuned to the slightest gurgle or change in airflow. Am I right? For me, the learning curve is worth it (and then some). But there have been some off-camera bloopers in my house, for sure.

Exactly! Once you really learn the ins and outs of your device, you'll be able to tell exactly how wet your wick is, how full your tank is, and how fast or slow you need to draw to highlight each element of your atomizer. Now that I've put around 100ml through my did, I can always tell how much juice I have left in the tank, with or without a clear tank.

I can probably save you some research time on this. As I've indicated, the high pwm spikes on the vmax makes it particularly sensitive to hot spots and shorts and your bam/vmax comparison on DID functionality seems to confirm this once again. There's no secret really. You've got to eliminate shorts and make certain the wick is well oxidized, as the vmax is less forgiving with these. Follow the suggestions and advice on this thread, couple this with more experience and you should be able to get it working well with the vmax. Once it works well on the vmax the DID will work well with anything. Always start with the vmax's voltage set to 3v and work your way up from there, performing wet burns and adjusting as you go.

dunno if this has been mentioned but here goes...

if you lose your fill screw or want the ability to fill on the go w/o an allen key, a carto ".... Plug" with about half the tail cut off fits like a charm.

Observation: I used a little o-ring on the bottom of my center post to make it stick out a bit more (thought I needed it to make better contact on one of my PVs - I was wrong).

1. The squishy nature of the rubber o-ring made it compress, and the post rise, when I tightened my DID onto a device - which loosened the bottom nut in the top cap. Would've known if I had attached my DID to my PV with the cap off.
2. When the bottom nut on the top cap is loose, condensation does wick down the center post. By the time I realized it enough condensation had built up that I got leakage through to the 510 connector (apparently the little o-ring didn't fit perfectly when squished).

Not a big deal by any means. In between tank fills, pulled the o-ring back off and all is well again.

Looks as though Jim added a full SS package on his site, though the price is reading 0.00 as of now, but I like the looks of this! Will be ordering another Short DID when he begins engraving them as well, but I'm REALLY having to fight the urge to order another one now without waiting. That polished mini is looking mighty fine, not sure how long I can hold out.

Also, I'm going to wait to see how my satin Mini looks when it arrives, and I'll decide if I want a full/short DID in Satin. As folks have said, one DID just isn't going to cut it

They're both such different, yet uniquely perfect devices that you'll never be satisfied with just one of them! Though the overall design is nearly identical, the scaled down top cap and posts on the mini make it vape entirely differently, and it's overall a much more intense vaping experience. The draw on the mini is slightly tighter than the stock standard/shorty DID, but the vapor that is produces is MUCH denser. I find myself taking much shorter drags on the mini than I do with the standard, as the combined effect of the intense th and the frighteningly voluminous clouds really pushes my lungs to the breaking point if I try and take my usual 5-10 second drags. I'm going to try my best to do my full review on the mini DID today, so hopefully everyone will have a little something to ease their qualms with customs (damn you NY ISC!).

Next time, i suggest pulling out the teflon insulator from inside the 510 connection and adding an oring to the skinny end of that, so you'll minimize the horizontal movement of the post, as the wider end of the insulator will sit flush with the ID of the 510 connector. Also be sure to screw the DID+adjusted post onto your mod before tightening up your bottom screw, so you can hold it all in place and compensate for the vertical movement of hte post as it's shifted up when the o-ring compresses

Hi rwechsler, with all the expence for the SS parts, I prefer the brass and have electroplated gold over the brass pole brass nuts, and screws. I don't know why this has not come up, gold is I believe is the best metal for continuaty for electricity to flow thoughand really wirks fine on mine. Have you seen this anywhere or tried it? Just thinking that in all your reviews you might have run accross this before. Got my kit in ebay and it works great.

LOL, truer words never spoken. There's always a next time...

I think I had counter sunk the teflon on that particular DID by trying to get it flush with the top of my Provari. When I got the VV Gripper and the resistance was sometimes inconsistent I thought it wasn't making contact. Turns out it's the Gripper that's inconsistent (oddly reads fine once warmed up - inferior electronics, but can't expect top of the line for $45). Lesson learned, I'll try your suggestion if necessary.
