New Genesis type atomizer by DID!

Hi people...kind of a lurker here. Decided to post because I'm just having a most difficult time with my set up. I've been using genesis type attys everyday since February. I am always able to get hotspots under control. However with my mini did, I cannot seem to get rid of the upper coil to post hotspot. I've spent hours over a few sessions, and end up just putting it down to come back another day.
So what have I done...standard kanthal .2 and 500 solid 40 mm wick, well oxidized by jack frost, and then again after rolling. I've tried wrapping while the coil was in place, doing the drill bit coil separate from the wick, 4-7 coil wraps (for variable voltage), cigarette paper thing, annealing the kanthal prior, coiling around the wick clockwise and counter clockwise, attaching to the post from the front and from behind, moving the wick around, trying to make sure the wick is not shorting to the hole, or at the bottom of the tank.
I don't seem to have the same problem with other genesis attys (lines, Zen), but do have the same problem with a large dud that was given to me. I must be missing something. The set up is simple, and the gap minimal. The screws allow easy positioning of the coil. I just don't know what the hell is wrong.
Any input would be welcomed. Thanks.

I have the same problem with the mini. I've figured the DID out no problem but the mini just continues to give me a hard time. I seemed to get better results with the 28 gauge kanthal for whatever that's worth.
I get teased about my wick and coil. Because the are bent. The top needs to curve around the back of the coil before going on to the post. IMO, I'll try to take a photo.
I have a standard did so I might not be a credible source. Just trying to help

Same coil from top. Lots of tension on the top. Many say it doesn't work. But it does for me.

The mini gave me trouble for a while. I eventually rolled my solid wick....wrapped it with 30 awg 5/6 wrap, then torched the wick and coil together. Installed the wick and snugged up the coil. Then fired. Make sure you have a long ground on the mini. While firing mess with the coils start with coil #2 and move on down bumping as you go. I must confess to not using the mini much but I have 6 other DIDS. I plan on making an upside down Gemini when the poldiac goes up for sale.
Usually top is to far. Pull it tight to the post.

I had this happen to me. Sometimes the wick just doesn't oxidize right. Even if you did it the same way. Run a lighter over it a few times. I always do it now and never have a problem. Make it black. Put juice on it and burn it with the lighter. Not jut setting it on fire.

I've been lucky with my wicks. I don't torch them much at all. I use a screw driver to make the coil. Check the ohms on my Provari, toss in the wick and check the ohms again. If no change then I know I don't have a short and I'm good to go.

Slap it on a mechanical mod and do some dry fire pulses of 1 to 2 seconds each until you see the other coils start to glow. Top coil glow usually means one of the bottom coils has a short. Pulses should oxidize the mesh for you, and cook off the short.
