Hi everyone.

I'll start off with this... I don't smoke.

I am good at doing research though... and my wife smokes. We have been looking for alternatives to the regular Cigarette.

We tried Hookah, and that got rather expensive and hard to keep up stock, as our friends and I enjoyed it as well.

We tried a "disposable" e-cigarette by Luci. It sucked... it said it would last so long, and it barely lasted 3 days... their customer service was non-existent.

We want to switch to the e-cigarette completely. I have been doing a lot of reading on this and other websites. We were considering the Luci or Blu starter packs, but from what I've read, they are junk.

I am looking at JOYE 510 and 510-T. I am still a bit vague on the differences between things like the Luci/Blu and the JOYE. I also can't seem to wrap my brain around the difference between the 510 and the 510-T. I understand the T stands for tank... but I don't really know what that means. I've been on thevaporpro dot com and I see all the different e-cigs but they don't really explain the differences.

We definitely want something small, the same diameter of a regular cigarette. I like how Luci/Blu have the neat storage pack, but we can live without it. I also like the idea of cartridges that just screw on the end...

I'm sorry for the long post, and I'm sure I'm asking a question that has been asked before, but I got tired of searching, and reading posts that didn't hit the nail completely on the head.

If you wife is a very light smoker (-6-7 a day) then a mini PV (personal vaporizer) like the regular 510, 808, 401, etc may work for her. If she is not then consider:

Rule of Thumb: the more it looks like the real thing, the worse the performance.

For a beginner, I would suggest either the Riva 510 or the E-Power with manual batteries NOT auto batteries. Manuals provide much more control and are safe from liquid getting into the battery and killing it.

These two are the size of a very slim cigar and have batteries that last about 5 hours. The mini's have batteries that last about an hour and you will need to buy plenty of them and keep charging, recharging and switching them out. You will be getting close to your "Luci" experience.

Here are two reputable web sites that sell the Riva and E-Power:

Electronic Cigarette - Starter Kits - E-Power

e-Power

I would also suggest she start with eliquid around the 24mg nicotine strength and then adjust it up or down based on what works best for her. That is the most common level used based on polls and many need that at first to make the transition. I would also suggest getting some blank cartomizers since they will last longer before needing to top them off with eliquid.

Good Luck

Blu has super-crap battery life of under 100mah and is reverse polarity from the world of 510 stuff

510 has 180mah battery life and MANUAL batteries available which are what most people here use an recommend. manual 510's are totally sealed metal on the threaded end so they are almost impossible to damage kill with a juice leak vs autos which have an open hole leading right to the drag switch and electronics. You can use a drip tip on an atomizer on a sealed manual to test juices and vape if you want. Manuals make it easier to get a good hit and won't turn on accidentally from wind or vibration. 510 comes as a 3-piece with atomizer + cartridges but most use it with blank cartomizers like Boge 510 3 ohm ones (slim ecigs cannot use the hotter LR 2 ohm cartos)

Even 180mah is crappy battery life of a couple of hours of moderate vaping.

But it doesn't matter because if you don't smoke you should not use e-cigarettes.

She only smokes 4-6 a day.

The 2 you recommended are very nice, and I can see the very obvious benefits, but she wants something small... its a major hang-up for her. Is there something in between those 2 sizes? Like maybe the width of a Black and Mild?

I was just looking in the vendor section and found something called a "Magma Kit"... that looks promising... any info?

Also, about the eliquid... do they ALL use liquid? That was my confusion between the 510 and 510-T

I don't get why a hookah is ok but you want an e-cig to be the same size as a cigarette. Call it a PV and forget about size. Look at function.

We tried Hookah to explore more options. Are all e-cigarettes called PV's? I'm new to this, so I'm learning all the lingo.

I wish I could ignore the size, but that is one of the specifics my wife is looking for... Alas, I agree with you, look at functionality over aesthetics.

Correct, I don't smoke, but my wife does. I'm doing research for her as she doesn't use forums...

I do agree with the manual batteries, that seems like a very good idea.

Also, ninja edit... Thank you all VERY much for posting, and helping me and my wife understand this.

...there are all kinds of names/brands out there...BUT there are 2 main ones differentiated by the threading on the end of the batss...the 510s are the most numerous and come in slimline versions and the fatt batt models such as the Ego/Riva/kGo...the slimline versions have 1-3 hr batt life the eGo/Rive/kGos have 6-10hr life...the second one is the KR-808d-1...these are slimlines and are best represented by Vapor4Life(v4l), Smokeless Image(Volt) and Bloog(Maxfussion) and once again, have 1-3hr batt life...for the 510 stuff, look at Liberty Flights, Hoosierecigsupply and SmokTech...there are plenty of vendors who carry versions, search the Forum Suppliers list for more.........

Well, if it must be a small one, you can get what they call XL batteries for the regular small 510 that will probably give a regular smoker/vaper 2 to 2 and a half hours on a charge. The bigger problem with the small battery ones is as the battery drains, the vapor and throat hit (inhaled feel of a cigarette) diminishes. So even though you may get 2-3 hours on a charge, the last hour isn't that great.

But since she is a light smoker, as I said before, the mini with the XL battery might work fine for her. There is also one called the Bloog Max Fusion (http://bloogplanet.com/) that has gotten good reveiws for a mini PV. I've personally never tried one. You might want to look that one up, also. (and yes, we call them PV's, short for personal vaporizers because we don't smoke any more and don't want to be confused with smoking)

Note: although you probably already know this, but vaping is more "involved" than smoking because you are working with an electrical device vs just lighting a cigarette. There is a definite learning curve and more work involved. After you get past the initial stage, however, it becomes easier.

Thanks Jack and wv ;)

I really appreciate you teaching me.

Another question I'm having... 510 vs the 510-T... whats the difference? Which one is "superior"? I have to add juice to both of them right?

Yes, on the juice question. Since I am not a fan of either, I really can't say on your other question. I think the "T" just means it comes with a "tank" instead of a cartridge. The tanks have been "hit or miss" on performance. Many of us find they are not worth it but some do like them. I think cartomizers would be your best choice because you don't have to fill them as often but don't have the issues of the tanks. You can't use dual coil cartomizers on small battery PV's but you can use regular ones like these:

Refillable 510 Cartomizers 2.5 ohm

The 510 battery will be the same on either of the ones you mentioned. Just get the cartomizers instead of using the tank or the cartridges. For most people, a cartomizer (carto) will last a few days to a week or week and a half. After filling it the first time, you just top it off as the vapor weakens.

Is the Bloog a 510?

I'm also looking at "Vapor King"... I can't tell if it is a 510 either...

No, I'm pretty sure the Bloog is an 808. It will be different "threading" than the 510 where the cartomizer screws into the battery. They are both mini or smaller PV's. I'm pretty sure Vapor King is also an 808.

Ok, neat so I could get a Bloog or a Vapor King, and they'd be compatible.

Jeeze this is a much tougher decision than I thought it would be... I'm asking my wife questions etc, and she has no clue what I'm talking about...

I'm about to just say F*$# it and buy one of the full size ones you recommended... I've been reading only good things about the Riva...

I'm still new to this but its my understanding that the 510-t uses a special atomizer that allows you to use a tank that you just fill up and go with the 510 it uses cartridges that you end up spending more time tinkering with. It's my opinion that the tank would be the way to go but please correct me if I'm wrong.

All e-cigs use some type of liquid but I think thats the best part about them it allows you to try different flavors and adjust your nic content. I just got my first bottle of joose from KBV and man I was missing out when I was using the cartridges that came with my dse-901 yes, I was a victim of the mall vendor but it did bring me here to try and figure out why this thing wasn't as great as I hoped it would be. Make sure you check out the e-juice video reviews the Dog and Clay ones are really good.

I hope I was some help

Man I type to slow lol

There you go!:) If she really takes to vaping, she will be happier with the performance of one with a better battery like the Riva or E-Power. Most new people who start out with a mini model end up with a better battery model within the first several weeks.

Plus, once we stop smoking, most of us DO NOT want anyone to confuse us with smokers any longer. Having a model that does not look like a cigarette helps break that association. I get many more positive comments from non-smokers when they see me with my variable volt Darwin than I ever did with one that looks like a cigarette.
