Welcome to ECF, and I hope your wife enjoys whatever you decide to go with!

I don't want to confuse the issue with more hardware choices, but I just wanted to touch on the "software" or e-liquids a bit. :)

You should let your wife know that there is no such thing as a true "smoking-a-cigarette" flavor. It is impossible AFAIK to duplicate the flavor you get when smoking a burning tube of paper filled with burning leaves laced with 4000+ chemicals through a filter.

There are lots of vendors with tobacco flavors, and the best description I've seen thus far is the closest you can get is the smell of an unlit cigarette, like when you take it out of the pack and smell the tobacco inside the tube. :) There are variations of tobacco flavors, and menthols are the easiest, due to the power of the menthol though, and many are quite good, IMHO, and I started on these, but have moved on to yummy baked goods and candy and fruit flavors! :D The commonality with all of these that most search for is the TH, or "throat hit". Higher PG content and/or higher nicotine levels give a harsher throat hit, higher VG levels give higher vapor.

I started at 24mg nic and a higher PG ratio, but after just 6 weeks, have gone down to about 10-12 mg nic and a lower PG ratio. I enjoy the flavors and vapor more than throat hit or nicotine feeling. It's amazing how what I thought was important isn't. :) Also, many of us have stated that the dirty ashtray cigarette flavor we thought we would miss is not missed at all, it turns out.

Taste is subjective and everyone has a preference, and tastes change. I think this is why there are SO many vendors from which to choose for quality "juice". It can get confusing  and it can be intimidating or overwhelming as well  . Just be patient and understand there is a learning curve to both using the hardware, and finding the juice(s) that are just right.

Oh - and make sure she starts drinking lots of water. I also started using Blistex a lot more. :2cool:

I currently enjoy kickbassvapors, vapealicious and deejstuff for my juices. These and many more can be found in the Suppliers area of the forum. The ones registered here are of higher trust, IMHO, than others found outside of the forum.

There are lots of decisions and things to consider here. In the long run though, your bank account & health will thank you. :D

Good luck, and here's to happy vaping!! :vapor: :vapor: :vapor:

Since the resurrectors are out, order a 510 driptip with your riva order @ liberty flights (like 2 bucks). Get one of the cartomizer rivas and use those cartomizers for a week or so until the resurrectors come back in stock. As I said before, both the Boge LR and the duals that come with the riva carto kits are good. I personally use 2 cartomizers a week. I refill them throughout the week and switch between them. After about a week flavor starts to drop but they could probably last 10 days total. Each of the Riva starter carto kits contain 5 cartomizers, should be good for at least 2.5 weeks, enough time to get the resurrectors.

To explain driptips, they are made for dripping juice onto atomizers (rather than using cartridges + atomizer, cartridges suck). They are basically a mouthpiece and most people that use cartomizers still use a driptip with them rather than the little plastic cap with the hole in it that comes with cartomizers. MUCH better mouthfeel, just gota find driptips that fit you well, though every driptip I've tried is better than the regular end of a carto (I do have my favorite driptip shapes though, not all driptips are good for me).

... Thank you both for more info :D I'm taking notes...

Sadly, Liberty Flights is sold out of both Carto Deluxe Kits as well... : \ (Bangs head on wall)

Also, ninja edit, the Ressurectors, are they Cartomizers? or will I need to buy Atomizers with them?

A place that has a large selection of cartomizers is MadVapes. Well respected supplier on ECF:

They are cartos (aka cartomizers...cartridge/atomizer hybrid).

Also, what W said it's true; I've used Madvapes on numerous occasions. They are quick & accurate & have excellent customer service.

Hi there, I just wanted to add my experience to the mix... I first got an e-cig a month ago from the local Smokers Friendly store. It was their own brand, which is just an 808 battery. It was fairly inexpensive, less than 50 for the starter kit and I wanted to get something in person and not ordering online, until I was pretty sure it would work for me as an alternative to smoking a cigarette. I had 1 pack of cigarettes left on that Friday when I got the kit and now a month later, I still have half a pack left...somewhere, not sure where since I haven't felt the need after that first weekend. So it certainly IS possible to quit smoking using a "cheap" no-name brand. Now, I did go back and get more batteries and cartomizers.

And I ordered a V2cigs.com mobile starter kit online. They have a very good warranty and other than a delay on shipping, I am very happy with the brand and company. I LOVE their menthol cartomizers. Of course, as many find, I end up going through many more cartomizers than I thought I would... so shortly after I realized that, I started getting e-juice from the local mall kiosk...pricey! But at least a place I could get something to try it out to see how it worked and some different flavors.

Now about nic levels. I started with the higher levels, as many here suggest, but I found quickly that it was way too much. Mainly because I ended up vaping much more than I smoked. So within a few weeks I am down now to 6mg and 0mg. I guess my advice there would be to not overly stock up on high nic level cartomizers or juice, but see how your wife likes the ecigs and how much she vapes with them. If she ends up vaping more than she smoked cause it's so nice to be able to vape inside and because it's easy, she may want to go with a lower level of nic. Remember, there's no "end"...nothing to signify when one has vaped the same amount of nicotine as from smoking a cigarette. With a cigarette, you *know* when it's done.

If she has the discipline to just put them down after 10 puffs or so, then the higher level is probably better. Do you see what I mean?

Anyway, I think that the reason WHY someone smokes is a big factor on whether ecigs will work as far as quitting smoking. I personally didn't really like the "smoke" part of smoking... but I did like the hand to mouth aspect and the menthol flavor (for the most part) and of course I was and am addicted to the nicotine. So ecigs for me give me everything I want and need. No nasty smoke, no ash, but the nicotine I need and the cigarette experience...vapor that looks like smoke, menthol taste, hand to mouth.

So for me at least, having the ecig LOOK like a cigarette was very important. After a month, that's not so important to me anymore, but it was at the time. If you are wanting to get this for your wife to help her quit, it's something to think about. Yes, you might have to get something more robust, larger, whatever down the road...but if she wants something cigarette like to start and you get her this big honking PV, and then she doesn't quit because it's not like smoking a cigarette...how much did you save? Just a thought... Yes, I read so many posts here about not getting the cheap stuff, don't get something that looks like a cigarette, etc...but I know what I like and want, and I don't necessarily cave under social pressure, so I got what I wanted and it worked for me. Your mileage may vary. I guess what I'm trying to say is to please don't ignore what your wife says she wants because the "experts" tell you she doesn't want that!

The last thing I want to address is the manual vs auto battery issue. That, like a lot of this is personal preference. I'm not overly interested in clouds of vapor circling my head. At this point, I've even gotten away from the need for a throat hit all the time. And I personally don't like having to push a button...it's not at all like smoking a cigarette. After I had been smoke free for a couple of weeks, I did get a manual usb pass through, and while I use it a lot, I much prefer my auto batteries still. Very simple to use, no muss, no fuss, just like smoking a cigarette, except I don't need a lighter or ash tray! So I guess my point here is that there are alternate opinions on everything. I get plenty of vapor with my auto batteries. Maybe the amount of vapor wouldn't satisfy a die-hard vaporist, but for me it works just fine. So just throwing that out there as an alternate opinion.

Hope this helps,

*Update*

Thanks for the answers and help all along the way guys!

I'm proud to say, that today we got our Riva 510 Steel Special Edition Carto Deluxe Starter Kit!

We both love it so far! Took 8 hours to get the initial charge on the battery, but it was well worth the wait...

We got our Juice from The Vapor Room. Got 3 flavors. Vanilla Tobacco, French Vanilla Coffee, and Banana Split.

We both love all 3 taste wise...

The only complaint is, its kinda harsh... rough... I'm not sure how to describe it... I don't smoke, never have, so I expected it, but my wife is a smoker, and it makes her cough...

Is that normal at first?

She can't vape the way she smoked. Vapor is dryer than smoke. To reduce the initial coughing (which is normal) she needs to inhale into the mouth and then slowly into the lungs. Smaller inhales will also help until she gets use to it.

Here
Cool.

Yeah I found a neat Beginner Tutorial on this site about how to inhale. That was on there.

I have to say... So far, we are both VERY pleased with our device and the flavors. We got Banana Split, Vanilla Tobacco, and French Vanilla Coffee.

The French Vanilla Coffee tastes EXACTLY like what we both drink every morning... (Coffee Mate). The Banana Split is a bit more harsh but tastes just like a moon pie (banana) or one of those yellow banana Popsicles....

I can't thank all of you enough for the info, and the help on making the choices.

The Riva is not too big either, and the battery life is outstanding so far! We got it charged last night around midnight, and we're still using it right now (@7:30PM)!
