I just picked up a SVD today and had the same exact thing happen to me...I was sure a Google search on "SVD shocking face" would come up blank but here I am. I put another tank on and the problem went away.Both tanks were working fine on the mvp. I rebuilt both tanks but the shock tank did have a silver leg coming out of the center post that was a little longer than it should have been. Snipped it and problem went away. The flashing lights through my eyes was very strange sensation.

You should be able to take an Ohmmeter to each of the battery terminals and the tip and see if you are getting a reading. Any reading other than 0 means some current will pass through.
Also, many liquids do conduct electricity to varying degrees depending what is in them. http://ga.water.usgs.gov/edu/electrical-conductivity.html

You could try to see if you liquid has resistance but I doubt it.

Your SVD should have recognized the short circuit and refused to fire.

From VaporBeast:

* Variable Voltage: voltage can be adjusted from 3.3 – 6.0 volts in .1 volt increments.
* Variable Wattage: Wattage can be adjusted from 3.0 – 15.0 W in .5 watts increments.
* Short Circuit Protection.
* Reverse Battery Protection Circuit
* Battery Voltage Detection
* Resistive Load Detection (Ohms meter )
* ON/OFF Fuction
* LED Battery Power Display
* Low Voltage Warning
* Overtime Vaping Warning
* Battery Safety Protection
* Compatible with most any type of tank system: (threads fit iClear10 ,iClear16, iClear30, CE4, CE5 ,eGo, T2,T3 , VIVI NOVA and 510 etc.)
* Built-in 3 digit display (Ohms meter , Volts /Watts , Atomizer voltage output )
* Stainless

You have either somehow damaged the SVD to the point where an important safety feature is no longer working, or you have a defective unit. Either way, I wouldn't use that mod again.

My SVD shocks my hand somewhat (only the outer ring), and I have heard of others having the same problem. I guess if you have a metal drip tip, that could conduct the electricity and shock your face. Needless to say, I hold it by the middle now. You should try holding it by the middle to see if you get the same shock. I want to find out the cause of the outer ring shock and fix it. BTW, any sentence with the phrase "shock your face" is outstanding. In a way, I wish you wouldn't solve the problem so we could all get to write "shock your face" more often. If my SVD shocked my face, I would want to figure it out. --There, I said it again. Also, if you shock your face wouldn't that drain the battery faster? --And again. On another topic, I have heard the SVD described as looking like a d*ldo. Is it now a legitimate sex toy? Should Innokin put an additional warning in the instructions, "For ecig usage only?" Anyways, I'll let you know the results of my experiments. No! no! I mean my experiments trying to fix the face shocking problem. "Face shocking" counts, so that is 4 legitimate usages in the same paragraph. Now I am going to shock my face to get the phrase out of my head. It won't go away, especially after the sex toy thing. I have now decided that the SVD is the greatest mod ever, not because it works, but because it doesn't work. If you'll notice, it took me over 30 minutes to write this finely crafted paragraph.
