Hello, all ! New to these forums and ecigs. I've been smoking for 15 years. Fairly young at 25, but like many started out by stealing smokes from my parents as a little girl. I was addicted by the time I started high school. Started buying by the carton at 16, up to two packs a day by 18. In the last few years, it hasn't been unusual for me to smoke three packs on lazy days in front of the computer.
I have had chronic bronchitis since I was 18. I also have sinus issues. No one's body likes cig smoke, but mine especially seems to hate me for smoking. Both grandfathers, one grandmother, five aunts, and one uncle all have died of lung cancer. I also have an aunt with emphysema. My grandmother made it to 70; everyone else died in their 40's. This terrifies me. Two years ago I watched my mother's youngest sister die in hospice at the age of 41. No one in my immediate family has gotten cancer, thank God, and I hope it stays that way.
A few weeks back I became really ill. A cold turned into both walking pneumonia and a sinus infection. I know I never would have gotten so sick had I not been a smoker and already been dealing with chronic bronchitis. Every time I get a cold, I'm in hell compared to a non-smoker and it lasts four times longer. I'm over the infections, but I still have the sniffles and crap in my chest.
When at my sickest, I wasn't able to smoke. I've chain-smoked with strep throat before, so this was new for me. I literally could not do it. One puff and my sinuses and lungs were on fire and I was hacking. My boyfriend brought home a disposable ecig for me one night, and it was wonderful. I bought nicotine lozenges when the disposable stopped working, and ordered a Titan mega 510 from Totally Wicked as well. I did try a few real cigarettes when I got better, but for the first time in 10 years I can actually smell and taste my cigarettes and they are...DISGUSTING. I decided that forcing myself to smoke them was extremely stupid, and that now is the time to give quitting a try. Am I trading one habit for another? Sure. Perhaps cold turkey is the best way to quit, but I can't stand the withdrawal from nicotine and I can't imagine not having at least a gum or lozenge for the oral fixation.
Anyway, I've had my 510 for a few days now and no desire for an analog at all. With the lozenge I was still attempting to smoke one or two a day. I hope that this continues to work well for me. I'm aware that PG can cause some irritation. My question at the moment is this : How likely is it that the ecig will continue to cause me issues with chronic bronchitis? Anyone out there dealing with this? I tend to puff on my 510. I don't really inhale because it does make me cough. I've read most of the nicotine from vapor gets absorbed in the mouth anyway. It must be true, because I'm not withdrawing at all. Anyone out there find that the vapor exacerbates pre-existing lung issues like mine? Would VG be a good idea for me? Is it less irritating? I'm not having any problems yet but I'm worried I'm going to still have my smoker's cough with this since I already have damage and inflammation chronically in my lungs.
