So some friends on another forum pointed me over here after the vaping subject came up. I've been a smoker for 20 years of so, about a pack a day, and nothing has ever really worked to help me quit. So, due to the fact that vaping fulfills the nicotine hit addiction, as well as the same physical motions as smoking, I'm hopeful it will work. I'm thinking an ego or riva unit to get started, and a sampler of juices to see what suits me. I'm an hours drive from the vape shop, so anything else I should grab while I'm there? Thanks!

You sound very similar to my past smoking habits - I am into my 4th week without tobacco and have found vaping to be an incredible alternative. I purchased a starter kit : e-GO Vision; it comes with 2 batteries, 5 clearomizers, a charger, a lanyard to carry the e-cig around your neck. This kit also came with a case.

I have been enjoying this starter kit and have since added 2 e-Go Twist (variable) batteries and don't believe I'll need anything else for a while. Hope this helps.

Welcome and Happy Vaping!

Wow, thanks for the quick replies guys. ShogaNinja, I'll definitely read up on that for sure (once it allows me to, it's blocke now for some reason?), and check out the C twist. Any recommendations on nicotine level to start with, or just pick up a few varying strengths and find out what works? I'm pretty excited about this, as I'm sort of a gadget junkie anyway, and I love to tinker with things from other hobbies so maybe in the future I'll try mixing my own juice too.

Get more juice than you think you'll need.

From my own experience I'd also recommend getting a higher nicotine content than you think you'll need. I started around 12mg but had to go up to 24mg to stop thinking about cigarettes. I started making my own juices since then and I've backed down to 20mg and I plan to step down to 18mg in the next week or so (whenever I run out of my current batch).

I +1 shoga's recommendation of getting the eGo Twist if you're looking for an eGo style battery; but keep in mind no matter what you get you'll want to try other things pretty quickly and you'll probably wind up with something else before long.

I skimmed over ShogaNinja lengthly blog, and mostly agree with everything there. Personally I wouldn't recommend getting into DIY juices right from the beginning, but if you have a real good idea of what is involved and have the resources to give it a try, go for it. I think getting a bselection of each some blank cartomizers, CE3's, and clearomizers would work; along with some sampler packs of a variety of juice flavors. Maybe a larger bottle of a flavor you think you will like.

A backup battery (or two), for when your main PV is charging, or should it die. Do you need a wall outlet converter for your charger?

You are lucky to have knowledgable and experienced friends who should have an idea of what's going on. Most of us only had this forum when getting started.

Do yourself a favor, get an EGO C Twist. Riva's are oldschool technology and the other EGOs are too.

Before you go, do take the time to read my blog, The Vaper's Handbook, so you know some things before you go. Get 7 months of research under your belt in a short period of time:

I wish you the best of luck in your journey.

totally perfect. Ego C Twist IS a game changer. Get the 900 mah batt, and try as many flavs as possible. Buy sample packs initially so you can swap to a taste other than analogs if you get bored. Then stock up on cartos, clearomizers, or atomizers depending on your preference. Avoid going for a big bottle initially, as your tastes may change as you vape. Stock up later when you are sure!

Well I did go, but they didn't carry the Ego brand. But, the lady was very nice, and answered all my questions and such, so I picked up a vapor king setup. I figured it was something to get me started to see if I liked it, and if it would work. I'm happy to report, I haven't had an analogue since 6:30PM yesterday! I'm headed to Atlanta in a couple of weeks to visit some family, and I notice there are some decent shops in the area, so I plan on making it a vapecation. I've been lurking a lot just reading and learning via tapatalk, and want to try dripping.

Good deal. You're on your way. Just remember to keep plenty of cartos or clearos around (because they do have a limited life span and are considered disposable), and keep some juice on hand so you don't run out.

Also, get a couple of dripping atomizers. They are helpful for sampling juices without dedicating a carto/clearo/tank to it. And they also give you an emergency backup for something to atomize juice with if you run out of cartos or clearos.

Yeah pappy, since I have the carto setup now which works great to take to work and such, I think the ego c that was recommended above and some atties, drip tips, and a juice sampler pack are on the list. From my reading it seems dripping is very different in taste vs pre charged cartos. The drip setup will be my at home whatever mood hits me setup.

Since you are lucky enough to have a vape shop nearby. i highly suggest going in with some time on your hands. The ones near me allow you to sample their flavors in the store.. if yours does.... DO IT! Find a juice or a couple of juices you like before walking out the door. Also dont be afraid to go off the reservation. My first instinct like many peoples was to go for a tobacco flavor. Have yet to find one I really like and it made vaping somewhat unpleasent trying to deal with the ones I had.

I took a trip down to the local vape juice store here and sat and tried a whole bunch of flavors turns out I love banana flavors and vanilla also some of the desert flavors are awesome. Vaping for me replaced smoking instantly when I found a flavor I liked.

Yeah, I think I'm just going to take that whole day off actually and spend the majority of it at the vape shop prowling and tasting. WHen I find some I really like, I'll stock up as it is a 2.5 hour or so drive to a good shop. Banana huh? You know, I like banana anything pretty much, so I'll have to check that out, thanks Johnny!

Yea feels weird to smoke a banana but man I love it! Used to love banana Popsicle as a kid and this brings those memories screaming back.

Best of luck I am sure you will find something that you like. I would not go too crazy on the purchase though as your tastebuds may change after a couple weeks of vaping and being off Cigs. Something you like right away may not be so great in a couple of weeks.
