I quit real cigs 4 months ago after smoking for 12 years. I still crave it all the time and i got horrible anxiety as soon as i quit, that wont go away. Im thinking of getting the e cig with a very low dose of nicotine, or no nicotine. Will that help? is that a good idea to help with the cravings? or am i asking for trouble to just get addicted again???

Hi Tazzie

I would wait for a few people to reply so you have a mix of opinions but my view is

You are struggling clearly and unless you get sorted quickly you are going to be reaching for a cigarette. When i have tried to quit in the past i have been exactly the same , my wife who is always 100% supportive has actually gone and bought cigarettes in the middle of the night as i am such a nightmare. vaping solved all of that , none of the cravings as such ( its different) but you can break many of the old smoking habits just leaving the nicotine adiction to manage.

What i did was to get the highest strength i could take and vape away until I got that one cigarette too many feeling , its not pleasant but killed the craving dead. 10 months on i still use the high strength but am able to switch to low/no nicotine flavours when i feel like it and am now using 14- 24mg instead of 36mg as the one i turn to when i need a hit. Now i can smell and taste again i am enjoying experimenting with flavours but still need a little nicotine hit but i have no cravings at all

or to completely turn this on its head , after 4 months you should be well past the nicotine dependancy therefore its all in your head(not that makes it any less real) . A low/zero dose may give you what you need.

Either way will do you less harm than living in a state of anxiety or going back to the cigs

Be proud T---4 months is great!! you got it licked------I took alot of cal-mag--to reduce the anxiety------but if your going to do anything do the e-cig----just nicotine, not 3000 thousand bad chemicals-----if you smoked lites 12 mg should do it--as a matter of fact after 4 months 12--10--or even 6 mg should do it....good luck----

Hi Tazzie, I think you came to the right place. Congratulations on quitting for 4 months - brilliant! I'd suggest picking up an electronic Blue cig from Walmart or your corner store and see how you get on. Nicotine isn't damaging to you, it's all the other stuff and the burning that causes terrible health problems. If you think that will help you out then ask away here what you might like to try next.

Welcome & congrats on your 4mo. Wow! I would have to say only do it if you can't stay off the cigs. 0 nic!(you can always go up) Ask yourself if you really want to be bothered with charging batts. and all that goes with vaping. Most of us do it to get off the cigs.& then get stuck on vaping. You have already done this! It can be a pain, but cigs. are the worst. Talk with your DR.? Best wishes.

Dude I'm still smoking from time to time but it's mostly that first one in the morning. Having a pack last more than a week feels good plus I get an 18mg as I finger any higher just to harsh. After 4 months you no longer need the nicotine but the habit of taking a drag feeling it in your lungs and or th and seeing the "smoke" so far just feeling like I'm smoking and seeing the cloud tricks my mind to be like dude it's all good Lol. Hang in there smoking will kill you just remind yourself of that. As for the the nervous feeling I know that all to well 8 years clean off .... and still feel that way from time to time I find something that take most of my thinking power and after a while I just forget and calm down

thank you all for your replies, they are very helpful!! and all makes sense. I will try a low dose and see what happens, i just need something and i dont want to smoke again, but when im having a panic attack or anxiety, just something to take the edge off.
And Scabbytattoo, I am 6 years clean off that as well, so im very familiar with the nervous feeling!
Thanks again for all the support! you guys rock :)

I also want to congratulate you on 4 mos. GREAT JOB!!!! One thing you said reminded me of myself. I quit for a little over 3 mos and caved in and bought a pack. Before I knew it, I was smoking more than I did when I first quit (the last time). I came to the realization that I would always be a slave to cigs ... UNTIL I found vaping. Granted, I'm ONLY 2 weeks in but I haven't bought a pack of cigs and honestly, vaping gives me whatever it is about cigs that I enjoyed only WITHOUT the stink, the ash trays, the heavy feeling in my lungs, the wheezing ... did I mention the STINK! I know the feeling of wanting to cave and my advice would be to start vaping NOW. If the "want" of a cig is strong enough that it consumes your thoughts enough to come here, I'd rather see how you do with vaping and DON'T buy another pack of cigs. Just my opinion, I'm obviously no expert ... just a fellow ex-smoker who now enjoys vaping. Wish I had found it years ago!

Lol ya true it was vaping in a sense. And it doesn't bring back and feelings of .... it's other weird little things that do I've been told by people that are 15 years clean and they say it's still on their mind for time to time. But at any rate you'll love vaping it's tasty and gives you something to do with your hands witch I finds help me not think of smokes.

I gave up smoking for over a year, only to pick up the habit again (which lasted another 20!). If e-cigs were around then, things would have been so much different for me...

If you find yourself reaching for a smoke, go the vaping route. I have and have no regrets (hopefully never will). I knew I'd start smoking again at some point, just glad I could deal with the hand to mouth habit without cigs and without feeding my face! :)
