My fav is to take a news paper put one section down, two paper towels, bacon, two paper towels, bacon, two paper towels, newspaper. Nuke it for 5-10 mins depending on the machine. This was my midnight homework snack (along with half a pack if cigs) in high school.

Good tip about the newspaper. Doh! Never thought of that.

The Internet
Bacon:

Fry it in a pan.
Broil it.
Sprinkle sugar on top, then broil it.
Chop it up and add it to everything - even ice cream. (Seriously, if you like to dip it in your syrup . . . )
Make a hat out of it and wear it.
Do whatever you want, but be forewarned . . . this is amazing!

English Angoras are plucked for the prime fiber. I used to breed them. German Giants are usually shorn. FYI Angora rabbit produces angora yarn. Angora goat produces mohair yarn. Ancient handspinner here ;-) I also had a flock of angora goats for 20+ years.

Fiber trivia anyone?

Plucked?? Sounds liked what you do to a chicken... LOL!! And a flock of goats, too...

Thanks for the info, was that here in SoCal??

(btw, I love Mohair, but the Vintage stuff from the 50's and 60's)

They have to be ready to blow their coats. Think of how a long haired dog sheds twice a year. If they aren't ready it's painful and they will bite & scratch. I used to love doing demos, spinning of a rabbit in my lap. A real crowd pleaser!

Grew up in Norco, now in high desert. Ya, they don't do mohair commercially as well as they did back then. Handspun is the way to go now so it doesn't shed too badly.

What you're seeing in the pics I posted is plucking. It's more like brushing or stroking. Right Tierra? (I'm not really up on all the terminology.)

yes, like stripping a dog for show. You just grasp the tips between your finger tips & heel of your hand and pull. It comes out very easily when they are ready. German Giants don't release their fur, or didn't back in the day, so we sheared. They may be breeding them to shed better now.
