So, for the record, I've been a carto and carto-tank fan since about 2008. Tried some BCC's here and there, and have loved the evolution of the tech, build quality, design, user friendliness, and quick set up time (compared to priming a carto), but have always disliked the vape. Too hot, never wicks fast enough....blah, blah, blah.

Anywho, in my fantasy world, the egrip is perfect in every sense but the vape, so I'm messing with it to try and make it more "carto-like".

"Tufting" out the filler material on the head helped wicking, but a day or two later it was the same. So last night I pulled the head apart, and removed the outside layer of fabric/wicking material.

Vaped wonderfully for about ten minutes, with a slight gurgle...lol. Then flooded completely. I put it down because it was late, and woke up to the entire tank emptying itself through the airflow hole. Nice puddle of juice on my desk. Haha.

I did notice the the outside of the head has four slots for juice feeding, but the inner assembly only has two, so I think tomorrow I will seal up two of the outside slots and see how it works. I may even stuff a bit of filler back in. Too much juice....too little juice....always the tinkerers dilemma.

I know a lot of folks here love BCC's, and I'm not bashing them, just trying to get the vape I love, on the mod I want to love.

PS: after pulling the bottom center pin on the head, the coil leads were exposed, and the coils can be gently removed. So for any who want to rebuild it, it seems like it's not as inaccessible as I first thought.

Cracker75, have you tried thinning your eliquid? Just add a little distilled water.
I'm pretty confident that Joye came up with the best design to work for most users.
I'm not going to try to out think them. Those days are gone.

I agree, most users will love this thing, I just wish I was one of them. I will try thinning the juice, might be an easy fix. And for pics, all I have is an iPad two, with the crappiest camera ever.

It is fun to take things apart though...:)

I did the same and added back in 1 layer of that wrap....works pretty good I think....but don't draw too hard/fast or you'll get that gurgle again ;)

Are you guys using regular aspire bvc or nautilus bvc? I currently use the silo lite tank from beyondvape with non nautilus bvc and LOVE THEM even more than the nautilus bvc's so this discovery is GREAT NEWS. I am getting the egrip soon :) can't wait!
I just tried this with an Aspire BVC coil and it worked great. I also prefer the flavor of the Aspire BVC coil, and as an added bonus, they are much cheaper. Tomorrow I will try filing the pin so I can screw the base all the way in. Thanks for the tip!

So....the head that I flooded after removing one layer of fiber/filler last night?

I put blue masking tape over two of the exterior feeder slots, and aligned the interior slots perpendicularly. Seems to be wicking and vaping well, but is sitting on a plate in case it drains again.

Any minute now, someone will come along and tell me how bad the toxins from the tape are for me.

Anywho, just a stupid update from someone who enjoys fiddling with this device:)

It must be the regular BVC as the nautlius BVC coils I have use a larger diameter thread. I ordered the other BVC coils and am hoping to shorten the center pin of each coil to make them fit, not sure if this is going to work yet, I hope so.

Yes, use the non Nautilus BVC heads. You won't have to shorten the center pin, I found a work around. If you still have your eGrip heads lying around, pull out the metal center pin from those and replace the metal pin in the BVC coils with them. The pin will be kind of loose inside the BVC head so make sure it doesn't fall out when you turn it over. If you want to go a tiny step further and make sure that doesn't happen, you can pull out the white rubber gasket thingy inside the eGrip head and replace the BVC one with that, just make sure the coil doesn't get pulled out and that you insert the gasket correctly (with one wire inside the gasket and one on the outside touching the metal part). You will be able to fit the BVC head onto the eGrip base now, only thing is that the coil base will not screw into the mod completely. It will screw in like 90% of the way and protrude a tiny bit but it will still work.

I just popped in a new BVC head myself, it's vaping great for me this way. I tried to modify the eGrip head the other day and pull out one of the layers of the wick but I still think the BVC heads perform better.

Here's a pic of how far it sticks out. It will still sit upright but wobble a little. You can use one of those charge port covers and it will balance out the other side and not wobble.

This got me sorted! I tossed the original wrapping, but thought it was too dense anyway, so I gutted one of the carto's that I don't like (I have plenty laying around) and used the material that's wrapped around the coils in the carto (not the poly fill) and it works freaking awesome!

I have achieved a carto vape, on a bottom coil atomizer! I am definitely stoked. This thing is a beast and I can easily turn it up a notch or four :) wicking is great, and a dry pull brings up 3-4 good sized bubbles, so I know it's feeding right.

Very happy with my efforts, well worth the time and fussing-about.

Are you still leak free with yoyr modifications? With any luck, I will have mine a week from Thursday and trying the same modifications because I love the aspire bvc heads :)

I have not experienced any leaking with the BVC heads or the original eGrip heads. However, my main gripe with the eGrip heads is that it doesn't seem to produce as good flavor or hit as the BVC ones which is the reason I use those instead.

I'm pretty stoked about the RBA base. Looks like we will have a way to check coil resistance after all without busting out the multimeter. Actually looks like a couple of sites are starting to carry them although they're all out of stock. I need one nowwwww.

The RBA base's description does not say it includes the Joyetech RBA 510 adapter. Without it, I suppose you could still make a coil and check the resistance the old fashioned way, but I'm guessing it'll be another part we have to buy if you want to heat the coil to squeeze it and check your resistance more easily. I hope they don't cost a lot extra. The RBA base is on Sweet-Vapes but it says "coming soon". No adapter as far as I can tell. Also, I notice the 'Eleaf GS Air Coils' are listed under the Joyetech category. They look very similar to the original eGrip coils. I'm assuming they probably fit and work with the eGrip? I'm curious how well they vape... never heard of them.
