New L2 510 vs 901 - First Report Newb Rant

I just started vaping about 3 weeks ago. So far so good. I am totally off analog cigs and cant even stand the taste of them. I crave the digital world (or what my analog smoker friend calls the 2010 cig!)

My initial order was for a DSE901 kit and some turkish, marb and DK TAB liquid from RMV. Shortly after that i ordered a couple extra atomizers as well as an extra battery. I went with the 901 after reading a bit on here and talking to my only vaping friend who said he had the 510 but wanted to try the 901 because he had heard good things.

The turkish liquid was my favorite off the bat. It was the strongest and could get me through a good night of drinking without the need to smoke the classic analog.

At first the TAB was too sweet, but a week later i found myself strictly vaping that. I ran out and didnt order more. I decided i would try a few other liquids including red bull and 555.

So far nothing is a pleasant to me as the TAB, but the others might come with time. I like to experiment so i'm gonna keep trying other liquid.

Last week i decided to order an l2 510 from stjuice. I kept reading about the 510 so i had to have one. It wasn't until after i ordered it that i read that it was a clone not the real thing. I was discouraged, but i read a few things that said it was just as good, so the buyers remorse didnt set in (and it was cheap).

I received it tonight and was immediately disappointed. There was almost ZERO throat hit. I tried a few different carts and liquids. I finally go the red bull to give me some throat hit. Whats wrong here? Is it something i'm doing wrong? It seems like the atomizer isnt getting liquid or something...however there is a ton of vapor!

So far, the 901 kicks the flavor .... and also wins in throat hit. The only the 510 has on it is vapor production. But whats the point if it doesn't give me a throat hit?

BTW what is the deal with this DK TAB? Is there anything else like it?

This is my first review/post so please let me know what you think. Sorry for the rambling and ranting.

The new atomizers on the 510 have a bit of a break in period. Even the clone 510 are more satisfying to me than my 901 ever was.

Nope... To be quite honest, although many may disagree with me, if i picked up both my joye 510 and my L2 510 and used them both without looking, I would probably not be able to tell the difference

I had done the opposite. I loved my 510 but I needed some 901 parts for a mod so I ordered a 901 from the classifieds. It came in and I had the same reaction as you. I wanted to get rid of it. I did use it for a while because I thought it was cool (a stainless steal cig.). I puffed a couple of times in the car and put it down and used my 510 passthru. Passthru cart went dry so I picked up the 901 and WOW. I don't use it often because its an auto it is now just as enjoyable as my 510. Did you blow out and prime the L510 atty before use. I am sure that was my 901 problem. It just needed time to wick some juice.

Well i have been forcing myself to use the 510 all day...still not sold, but i will give it a few days and see what happens.

If you are getting tons of vapor and no throat hit from the L2.. then it probably is running a bit too wet and a bit too cool. This issue will probably subside all by itself once you get all of the primer out and run her dry a time or two. If not.. you might want to try blowing the atty out, and then see if it gives the throat hit as the cartridge reloads the atty. If you get throat hit.. and then it goes away.. then you're running a liquid and cartridge filler combo that wicks too quickly for the atty.

From what I understand, the "new" 510 atomizers that have the washer are SLB atomizers.

I have some of those "new" SLB 510 atomizers.
I don't like them that much.

The vapor is about the same, although it seems much cooler to me.
The throat his is less, probably because the vapor seems cooler.
Although the flavor might be just a tiny little bit better.

Scottbee has measured them and found them to be like 901 atomizers.
He can correct me if I am wrong about that.

There was a huge thread about them awhile back in the Innovapor subforum.
Apparently some people like them.

I've ordered the 901 but i thought that both the 510 and 901 were very similar? With the 510 having slight more throat kick, and the 901 having slightly more flavor.

I'm not sure if you got a bad one but both are highly recommended so i presume that they can't be that far apart in performance.

Thanks for all the advice. I did blow out both atomizers and also notices when swtiching to a 901 cart the hit is better. It almost seems to be inconsistant. Sometimes the hit is good and then the next drag its bad, then 5 minutes later without refilling its good again. Also dripping seems to be better. 1 or 2 drops and im good...but not for nearly as long as i am when dripping the 901.

This is my experience with the 901 totally inconsistant, but what I find strange is my 510 puts out way more vapor and more throat hit. The other thing I find strange is my 901 is not very good for dripping at all where as my 510 is great for dripping.

I've been using the L2 510 form stictlyejucie.com. Good vapor and throat hit with Turkish Blend, RY#4 and Lemon (not all at the same time). Took about 2 carts to break it in.
Went to the "blue foam cart mod" and it made a big difference. I'm getting about 40+ puffs from a cart now.

The L2 ran a bit cooler than my JOYE 510 at first, but after the first week, they are the same. L2 is a manual and my Joey 510 is an auto. Love them both.

All great feedback...i truely appreciate it. I read the info about wicking but i really dont think that identifies my issue. More vapor generally equates to more throat hit...if you flood it then you typically get less vapor and less hit.

i know what a dry atomizer tastes like, so that isnt the issue either.

give the 510 a chance..
the atty's I got from tw and tecc blow away all the atty's I ever used with the washers..
both work great once you break them in. sometimes a drop of juice on the wick helps. the tw/tecc attys seem to do better in the long run, for me.

I'm vaping with a 510, using one of the auto-drip mods, and while the TH was ok before, now it is so strong that I often cough, and this is with about half the nic concentration that gave just an ok TH before. I can't comment about the 901, but I don't think I WANT more TH than I have...I wouldn't be able to vape! Think of the 510 as a good out-of-the-box PV with a lot of potential for easy mods to make it killer. Some would rather not have that, but I personally cannot help but tinker.

A good first mod would be to replace the stock filler with blue foam or facial cleaning sponge material, both of which wick better than the stock fluval. As was stated earlier, wicking properly is the difference in the 510 between killer and just ok. Proper wicking will also allow the atty to perform cooler and live longer.

The good thing is, you still have the 901 to vape while you mod, if you decide to go that route.

Also, dripping a few drops on the bridge and using an empty cart will tell you really how well it will perform. A bit hard on the atty in the long run, but you will get an idea. Also, if your juices are too thick, perhaps with only VG, no PG, this will lower the TH. Thinning them with a little 100 proof vodka or PGA will increase TH.
