To expand a bit on what spazmelda had to say.
The amount of total flavoring in a mix can vary quite a bit.
One of my mixes has nearly 25% total flavor, most are 10-15% and finally a couple are as low as 5%.
If I mixed with a preset base the final level would vary wildly from one recipie to the next. Dilluting allows for the final mix to be exactly what I want.

I have been researching all day long on the issue of Nic level in my DIY mix. Seems that lots of people buy 50mg or 100mg and then use formula's or calculators to get the desired Nic levels. My question is, if I want 6 or 12 why wouldn't I buy just a 6 or 12, why would I buy a 100 then dilute?

Thanks!

Depending on the flavoring you use- some concentrated flavorings you use 2% other flavorings as high as 15%.
If you vape 12 mg. for example, and you use 15% flavoring it's going to reduce the nicotine concentration by 15%.

But buying your base close to your nicotine level is a good way to start DIY.

another reason why I personally went with 100mg to mix down to 12mg versus say 24mg is the higher concentration I would have to use way less. The 100mg i would only need about .12 of it on a ml basis per ml of juice im making as where the 24mg I would need a little more then half of each ml to be from the nic base. Thus making the same bottle size of nic last almost 4-5 times longer for just a few more bucks then the lower mg base ones. I vape a lot roughly 10ml's a day and the more I can save on juice the more I can spend on shiny toys and my motorcycle upgrades.
