Greetings folks,

I've been a smoker for 40 years and have tried many things to stop. I smoke between 1 - 2 packs a day.
So.. we will see if I can get my doctor, family, myself, and household pets, to be happier with me.

I visited a new E-cig store nearby yesterday and a very helpful salesman suggested this setup.

Qty(2) eGo battery 1100mah
Kanger T3s Clearomizer 2.2 ohm
Qty(2) 510 dual coil cartomizers 1.5 ohm
and the cable and charging unit.
This kit cost $63.00 and came with a bottle of liquid.

I tried it at the store and it seemed to work fine, so I took it home and promptly forgot one key instruction.
"Hold button when you hit it."

So I smoked half a pack of cigarettes while I tried to figure out what I was doing wrong.
I opened it up and spilled the liquid on my lap and was surprised to discover that e-liquid and nicotine seem to be absorbed directly into one's skin.. It seemed to cause a headache.

Then I overfilled it till it gurgled, dropped that little coil wick thing under the couch, then put it all away and charged the battery over night. So far.. I'm not liking this entire concept very much and if anything, It has caused me to smoke more.

This morning, right after my coffee, I packed up my pile of stuff and went back to the store where I bought it.
Then asked the salesman to review with me, how to operate my new e-cig.
He promptly used a napkin to clean out it's flooded little mechanisms, pointed out the "Hold button when you hit it." rule, and handed it to me to try. It worked..

In my own defense, I would just say that when I bought the thing yesterday.. that store was very busy and I did feel rushed in going over the details. It did look so simple. Click button 5 times to turn on battery, then another 5 to turn off. The "Hold button when you hit it." just slipped right by me.

So today is day one of vaping and I am still smoking, but much less. I don't think putting down the smokes and instantly making the switch is feasible. For today, I just decided any real smoking will be done outside and only vaping inside.

I really hope this works.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Best of luck, and welcome to the ECF. I think those are all pretty much just normal growing pains when your'e just getting into it. Just remember to give it time. Vaping won't taste like smoking, at the potential is there if you learn your equipment and are willing to experiment with some other juices. Hang in there!

Hi welcome to ECF and congrats. Yes some quit immediately and some taper off until one morning they realize they enjoy vaping more than smoking. Smoking during the transition period is no big deal. Considering you bought from a B&M Shop the price was good
PG and VG are humectants...
A humectant is a substance used primarily in foods and cosmetic products to help retain moisture. These substances are called hygroscopic, which means that they are able to absorb ambient water. These hygroscopic compounds posses a chemical structure that attracts water from the atmosphere and binds it to various sites along the molecule.

When we inhale PG/ VG it "traps" the moisture in our mouth, throat and nasal area and thus the vapor. The real problem arises when the body is dehydrated and begins "stealing" moisture from other parts of the body to keep key organs hydrated.
I had a convert that didn't believe vaping was dehydrating. I showed him his fingernails- there were vertical rails on them. Told him this was a sign of serious dehydration. His Dr. agreed. He began drinking water/ hydrating and within a couple of months his fingernails returned to normal...he's now a believer. Ask any chemist and they will tell you the same. I drink 2+ liters of water per day.
The Best of Luck.

Glad you were able to get some help with your new stuffs :) Your setup is really good to start with btw. I smoked for 3 days after getting my first e cigarette. The first day was along the lines of...has it been an hour yet? Second day..hmmm it's been a couple hours, guess I'll have a smoke. Third day...11:00 P.M. made it through half a cigarette, and though meh this is gross lol. Everyone has their own pace, and some struggle more than others. You'll find plenty of help here if you need it. Also, lots of options if you hit road blocks. Best of luck!

Welcome...you've taken the first step to a healthier you. I have to agree with the above drink plenty of water, it really does make a difference. Many of us still smoked a few cigarettes when starting to vape, don't stress about that. It was easier for me as I only smoked outside and started vaping in October 2010...winter in Iowa was a good reason to give up going outside:) Best of Luck

Vaping take a little more work then smoking, after your adjustment period it will seem easy. I have a 5 tanks all with different flavors, and a few batteries. Many vaperiers start out smoking and vaping, no need to stress your self out. With a little work you will become a full time vaper and not mis the cigs at all. I would recommend buying at least 1 more tank, maybe 2 or 3 and a few more flavors of juice.

Hello jwoode! Welcome to ECF. I also smoked for 40yrs. I started with the intention to only smoke when I had to and I had a half pack sitting on the shelf. I just vaped when I had the urge to smoke. That half pack still sitting on the shelf.

If vaping doesn't kill the urge to smoke, you might need stronger liquid. I used 24mg/ml of nicotine. Good luck and hang in there. The results are worth the hassles you might encounter.

Hi, welcome to ECF! Sounds like you are doing fine. For some people, it just takes a while to make the switch. Even if you don't manage to switch over completely, smoking less is better (I 100% believe this is true even though some ANTZ like to say 1 cig is as bad as 20. That can not logically be true.)

Please read on ECF and you will find a wealth of knowledge. Ask any questions and someone will help you quickly and usually politely. Also, don't hesitate to go back to your B&M for advice and help. That's one of the advantages of buying face to face, and you should definitely take advantage of that local help.

Welcome to ECF and congratulations on your decision to start vaping. My last cigarette was 6 months ago and I can say I will never smoke another cigarette again. I now can't even think of it without wanting to throw up from the thought, it just grosses me out. The smell, the taste, everything. When I first started vaping I also had cigarettes for the first 3-4 days, after that fourth day..I tried to smoke one last cigarette and only got half way through it and threw away almost a full pack of cigarettes. Never thought of it or wanted to go back since. Getting started and realizing that you need backups upon backups is one of the most important things in my opinion. I like to keep at least 2-6 of each thing item in case something goes wrong, there's always a backup. That way you'll never go without and think you have to go back to cigarettes in the mean time. Best of luck and remember the health benefits of quitting cigarettes!

I laughed at your post jwoode! Sounds like something I would have done. Vaping has a steep learning curve but don't worry. Soon it will all be second nature to you. It's true what the others say. The more you vape the nastier cigs will taste and do drink plenty of fluids, have plenty of backups as well as get a higher nicotine mg liquid if you constantly feel like having a cig. You are on the right path. Keep reading and asking questions around here. We love to help each other out with vaping issues. Welcome to the forums :) Pull up a chair and stay awhile.

Now if you want to save a few bucks and time. You should go buy some premade coils from FT. They runs 14 cents a piece. Then go to youtube and find out how to put them in. Takes me less than a minute to replace coil.

B&M atomizer = $3; cheapest atomizer online = 1.20; pre-made coil = 14 cents

In the event that you got coil-clogger juices...Put some coke in a cup, put your atomizers inside the cup, wait 24 hours, rinse with water. They should be almost or as good as new.
BTW, you got a much better deal than I did when I first started. Got seriously ripped off with fake EGOs (only the case says ego) for 30 buck. I swear I could've gotten all that for under 15.
Goodluck buddy.

haha....I'm not laughing at you...but with you. I can totally see myself in that situation.

Hope you find my situation an inspiration to your cause.

I too have smoked for over 40 years. I have tried everything , hypnotism, laser, nicotine patch, nicotine gum, inhaler ,nicorette lozenges, acupuncture and the ever failing cold turkey. I started with little ecig with the end which lights up. I could see where the ecig just might be able to do the trick. I went online and ended up buying the ego t . For the first month we used the ecig along with the nicorette lozenges, just to get over the knot in the stomach.

My husband and I both quit using the same method. My husband works with smokers who happen to smoke in the work truck and it doesn’t bother him. He just pulls out his ecig and vapes away.

I had to spend three days in hospital this summer...guess what...ecigs welcomed ! Bonus..years prior I took my IV bottle out of the building with me to smoke. We went to Cuba this year on vacation (money from the savings of vaping verses smoking). Another yahooo moment....the airports allow ecigs..just can’t vape on the plane.

The real bonus is my blood pressure is much lower, my circulation is back to snuff and no more morning coughing.

Ecigs have been such a win for both my husband and I.

We now use the ego CC and are both pleased with them.

Good Luck to you.....and please let me know how you make out. Its such a thrill to know it can be done!

I had to edit....forgot to tell you ...our house and cars smell so much better ! Your sense of smell comes back as well....can't believed we must have smelled so bad.

Welcome! I think many of us are smiling at your post.:) And, that's good for all of us. A sense of humor will take you a long way in life, whatever the obstacles.

As you read what others have to say, you will become more confident that you can do this...on your own time, and in your own way. Lots of good advice, so I can't add much. Just keep at it.

I am not at all mechanically inclined, but I've been able to fumble along with my set up so far and haven't had to light up a cigarette in about 3 weeks. After 40 plus years of smoking, that is amazing to me.

Hello again,

Thanks for all the encouragement and ideas.. I've been reading at this site on one screen and working on the other all morning. Who was that comedian that used to say.. "Everything you could possibly ever need to know is in this book"? That kinda describes this forum.

There sure are a lot of you folks :)

Day 2.. doing good.. past noon and had one cigarette today.
