Hi everyone,

I've been visiting this forum ever since I started vaping, which was about a month and a half ago. I started off with greensmoke e-cigs, wasn't too thrilled with them or the price, found this site, and decided to try out kr808's and the 510's (since both were recommended as good intro models) with my gs refund money.

I was pretty new to all of this and I decided cartomizers were easier to figure out than carts and atomizers, so I went with 510 and 808 cartomizers. I ordered pre-filled ones and liked them. so then I ordered blank ones and juice, refilling as time went by, cleaning them whenever i thought necessary. It was fun and, best of all, I wasn't smoking analogs anymore.

My lungs felt better and I could breathe deeper (smoking gave me a constricted lung feeling toward the end). I told every smoker I knew how great vaping was and how much easier it made it to stop smoking. I enjoyed how i felt.

But every once in awhile, I'd get that constricted chest feeling and a hanging cough. I didn't really know why. I hadn't smoked or inhaled anything other than vapor. Or so I thought. Turns out a few of my carto's had been burnt on the inside without me realizing it. I was kind of bummed out because I took as many precautions as I could to avoid burning them (keeping them wet, clean...). I realize that they were meant to be thrown away after one use, but that never seemed practical.

Anyway, I know people say they can get months out of their cartos and never have them burn. I thought I could....actually I thought I was. I would've never known that they were burned (i couldn't taste a burned anything) if it weren't for the fact that my lungs were telling me otherwise.

I guess I'll pick up dripping since I don't want to risk burned cartos. Any suggestions for a good atty and device? Maybe one day they'll make a non-burning carto and I can go back.

The link below is to a very long- but interesting thread about the carts and cartomizers burning. If you have a spare week it's worth looking at. I've been lurking and reading that thread but haven't had anything to add, so haven't posted in it. Like you, if the draw on the cartos or flavor doesn't tell me that a carto is fried, my lungs do. I still use cartos. I take them apart after one or more refills, and am training myself to stop using a carto when I get the least sign of internal overheating.

Hi, I'm new here and I have no idea what ya'll are talking about. I am really trying to wrap my head around all the lingo and what i means. Even though I have read what the abbreviations mean, I guess it won't make sense to be until I have a VP in my hands.

I will however, remember about burnt catridges, I am assuming they are plastic? Burning plastic and inhaling it is never a good idea. LOL!

Thanks for head up on that one.

I think it's a leap to correlate your constricted lung feeling with your cartomizers being burnt. I'm wondering if there would be any lasting effect (past coughing for a few moments) it you inhaled the smoke from completely incinerating your cartomizer. Probably no worse than walking by a campfire? or getting your nose over a charcoal grill while barbequeing?

The correlation exists (I dissect the carts and check when it happens)- but you're right that it doesn't mean it's causal or meaningful. In my case, it's not a long term tightness, but i do cough a bit when i get the really fried taste. I still use cartos, I just try to be careful and notice when the draw, taste, or my body says "move on to the next one now". I smoked for 30+ years, and would still be smoking if not for these. So I'm not too worried, and I'm willing to take what I'm banking on be a lesser risk- even with the occasional puff of melting filter because I wasn't paying attention.

yeah, my chest constriction correlates with the burned inner filling (the paper-like thing around the atomizer not the poly). no leap. just judgment. i've also taken them apart and found burned paper.

on new cartos, there's no constriction. i get it around 5-7 refills of the carto. so, i'm getting my money's worth. no doubt about that. i'd just rather not experience a tight chest to figure it out.

dunno how similar the smoke from the carto would be to grill or campfire smoke. either way, i wouldn't want to do it. the less carbon monoxide into my lungs the better.

I'm always amazed when people have burned cartos, mine just doesn't and I got them at heaven gifts, the cheapest place so they should be the cheapest in quality too but it just doesn't appear that way. Where did you get your cartos?

well, i guess i'm a heavy vaper. i mean i rarely put it down unless it's to change the juice. i think that plays a big factor. i got some pm's telling me that a good practice is to have some patience and let the juice absorb into the filler. don't rush into the vape.

i got an indulgence today. from what i've read it's a pretty decent starter to mods. not a bad price, either. gonna try dripping for a bit and see how it goes.

If you like cartos, one solution is to buy the soft tip 510s. Pop the top off, replace it with a drip tip and you can remove the drip tip to see if it's dry.

If you are going to drip, buy a drip dip. They're available for 510/901 and for 801s. You put them on your atomizer instead of a cart and just drip down the middle of it.
