Hi everyone! About six months ago I was at a Shopper's Drug Mart and saw the Nicorette inhalers on sale. At the price they were offering, I suddenly thought "hey, this alternative is about the same price as a pack of smokes right now!" and got really interested in the whole concept. I actually spoke with the pharmacist at the store and asked about the health benefits of using the inhaler instead of smoking cigarettes. It ended up being quite a long conversation, but in the end she agreed that it would be better for my health to use the Nicorette inhaler for the rest of my life, vs. smoking analogue cigarettes. Well, that sold me absolutely and I bought 2 boxes. I got out to the car, busted it open and tried it out. It tasted like I was breathing through a halls candy and I felt like I was holding a... well certainly not a cigarette. It didn't work, I may have used a total of 2 of the cartridges and gave up.

A little while later I heard about e-cigarettes. I started doing all kinds of reading on them and as far as I could tell at the time, they weren't available in Canada. Then, one day I saw that they were available at the smoke shop in the mall! I was super excited, and bought the kit for roughly $80.00. I'm in Canada so even though the kit was pricy to start, the cartridges it came with didn't leave me feeling satisfied at all (of course) and so I abandoned the system and kept up with my analogues. I'd done a lot of lurking at the time to read up about the current situation in Canada regarding obtaining cartridges containing nicotine, and it had seemed at the time like too much trouble.

I recently decided to revisit the whole thing and came back to lurking with a vengeance. After reading enough to feel confident in purchasing some cartridges and juice, finding the comparable model, even refilling the 'regular menthol' cartridges it came with!

Once I got the package, I opened it up to get started and haven't had an analogue since. Now, admittedly that was just this morning but still - that's 10 - 12 cigarettes I haven't smoked. :)

Anyway that's my story - hi everyone!

Congratulations DaisyB and welcome to ECF! There's a lot of information here, maybe too much for the typical vaper, so don't get overwhelmed! The people here helped me with all my questions when I started vaping and you'll get any help you need. Once you get five posts you can post in any forum you want. Welcome to smelling good and breathing better!

CONGRATULATION AND WELCOME TO THE ECF

Really glad that you made the choice to join this forum and quitting cigarettes. Thanks for sharing your story, I appreciate it. A LOT of people including me was a victim of those rip-off mall kits. Which is why this is going to change everything about how you view e-cigs and your experience with them.

I HIGHLY suggest you start out with a big battery kit such as the EGO, KGO, and RIVA. Which are the most popular and recognizable E-cigs on here.

As with what Trilly has described. It would be in your best interest to add to your post count and visit the Canadian forum to know where to get supplies and kits locally.

Really appreciate the warm welcome!

I did find some supplies for myself locally, which is great. Once I've got my post count up I plan to request the pm'd list of Canadian vendors and suppliers.

For other newly converted on here - check out 'the little things in life that change when you vape' thread in the New Members Forum - it's very motivating!!

I'm hoping to really figure out the whole nic level stuff in the next few days, I have this nagging concern that I'm vaping too much, or creating a worse dependance on nicotine than I had. I'm happy to trade in all the other damage I was doing with analogues, but I'd still like to figure out what's 'right' for me. I've read lots of threads on how much juice is equal to a cig etc. etc. etc. but the consensus always seems to be 'it depends' and 'find out what works for you'.

For anyone looking to share some knowledge: what's the easiest method to reduce the nic level in the cartomizers? I bought refillable ones... but all my juice is 24 mg...

Welcome all you new PVers. :) You might want to check this thread out.

Very informative, and will help keep you from freaking out when stuff starts happening heheh.
The nic level isn't hard to figure, average is about 18 or 20mg. If 24 is too much for you, you can order in lower doses, 18, 16, down to 0. You can dilute what you have by adding 0 nic PG or VG. Not sure in Canada, but I get my VG from walmart, but you might be able to find some in a local pharmacy, it's used as a skin protectant, and also might find some baking shops(make sure it is food grade, can also order from vendors).
There are a number of e-juice calculators that you can use to figure out the nic level for diluting also. Here is a simple easy to use one that's online, no downloading, but you can get more advanced ones if you decide to DIY.

Good luck, and again, welcome

Thanks Balthezar - helpful stuff!

Tersur - right now I'm mostly excited about flavors. I bought four different juices from cdnvapor and have been having a bit of fun mixing them together. My girlfriend has been smoking for longer than I have (roughly 18 years... ouch!) and is 100% convinced on switching over, right now I'm shopping for gear for her. I've been having a tough time finding white batteries for the kr808d-1 model (what I have). She really wants something that looks like the analogues for now since it's such a long-rooted habit. I think the visual effect is helping me too, so I can understand where she's coming from there. I'm almost thinking of giving her my white battery and buying a black one for myself (since it's all I can find).

I've checked out the Canadian vendors forum but it just seems like an overwhelming amount of information off the top... a lot to read through, get links, follow links only to find out they are across the country, don't offer what I'm looking for, etc. etc. etc.

OK, now off to read the effects of switching. I've been a tad headachy which I suspect is from the nic level of the juice I'm using. I'm finding it tough to figure out when I'm 'done' my smoke, you know? I've taken to setting the timer on my phone... :)
