Welcome!
You hail from what is considered the Mecca of vapers worldwide. So you should have a lot options at your disposal.
A good place to get some basic knowledge is the new members section. These threads are a good introduction:
FAQs: Frequently Asked Questions About Electronic Cigarettes | E-Cigarette Forum
The Three Main Types of Ecig | E-Cigarette Forum
Vaping slang and acronyms | E-Cigarette Forum

There is some knowledge that needs to be aquired if you want a successful transition. So your father should be dedicated and involved. Spend some time in ECF before making any decision about buying stuff. One advice though, disposable and ciga-like ecigs are not effective. They only serve as introductory devices if your father wants somthing that looks like a cig.

Hello and welcome to the forum @Suteki. Glad to have you here!:)

Here are some more links if you are interested in learning more about e-cigarettes (and all the parts and pieces). These blog posts by ECF member @Baditude I highly recommend for someone new to vaping.

1. A Good Starter's Setup for a Beginning Vapor
2. Advancing Up the Vaping Ladder with Egos and Mods
3. Proper terminology - Is it a carto, a tank, or what? A Guide to Juice Attachments
4. Something Safe for Cinnamon and Citrus Flavors

Welcome! If you have any specifics in mind it would help providing assistance Like-
a. You want a "beginner" kit which is use-and-throw OR
b. Starter kit with re-usable/re-buildable options
c. Experienced Vapers kit

and probably an idea of your budget might help!

Welcome aboard Suteki. For a second there, I thought you were my daughter since going by your avatar pic she and you look very much alike. You can definitely get tons of recommendations for gear that will help your dad quit smoking. Many of us here has been successful in giving up cigarettes for good by switching over to vaping. After over 30 years of smoking and 20 years of promising my family that I would quit, I gave up cigarettes for good just over 5 months ago when I started vaping. Whether it will be the same for your dad will depend heavily on him. He won't be able to quit unless he

1. really wants to quit, and
2. gets gear that can satisfy his cravings, and
3. gets gear that he is comfortable using
