I've been curious about these same things. Thanks all for the good info. I have another health related question. I've smoked for the last 15 years. (3/4 pack a day - Camel Crush) I've been vaping for exactly one week. I've been trying to quit analog cigs since mid March. I started with Chantix, but that made me a little crazy. I stopped the Chantix after 2 weeks, and I smoked a little on and off since April. Since vaping for 1 week, I haven't smoked one puff of an analog. It is AMAZING! I loved the first flavor I tried, and have stuck with it. I started with a 28mg of nicotine, and I get buzzed if I vape a lot at once, and especially in the morning. I don't mind the buzz. When I was smoking analog, I'd always get a buzz off my morning cig. Anyway, I've noticed that I am coughing more since quitting analog. I read that is normal, and I do cough up a little phlegm too, because my cilia are growing back and lungs are healing. What I don't like is that I've noticed I have headaches. They are different headaches than others I've had. It's just an annoying dull headache on and off all day. Could this be because the nicotine is too high, or am I having withdraws from the other bad chemicals that I gave up when stopping analog? I know you guys aren't doctors, but has anyone else experienced headaches with vaping?

Don't worry about the coughing, that will pass. One week in is just starting out. Expect some coughing for a while.

Headaches: first try reducing your nicotine strength. If you must, then vape it strong in the early a.m. but cut back as soon as you can. Also try another brand.

You don't say what set-up you have so it's hard to give specific advice. If you can't get lower strength refill immediately, then just get some Glycerine, USP (and nothing else, the label must say exactly that) from a pharmacy, and drip some into your liquid or carto to reduce the nic strength. It will reduce the flavor a bit.

Later on in the day your best bet is to use the weakest strength possible that allows you to get by with the minimum amount of cravings. Don't vape strong (for you) nic for no reason at all.

People who experience breathlessness need to trial different brands, and especially those using only pharma-grade materials and those with minimum flavorings. If you use a brand that is produced in a pharma-grade lab, using pharma-grade materials, and with minimum and known-safe flavors, there is (in my experience) no risk of shortness of breath. [/I]

Where would be a good place to buy these types of liquids?

Thanks for mentioning Diacetyl. I haven't heard about this before. I'm going to have to research it some, and maybe buy only Diacetyl free juices.

Almost all the reputable vendors are aware that we do NOT want juice that has Diacetyl included and will say either they DO NOT use it in their products or it is used in abc named juice in tiny amounts for flavor. I and most everyone I know ONLY buy juices that are Diacetyl free. It is KNOWN to cause problems and this should give you some comfort..... the way the industry is driven at THIS time is by us, the consumer. The vendors are very keen to what we want and do not want. In most cases we work together with the vendors in a close relationship, as we find out more and more. It is all very new and as problems arise, vendors (most) are totally on top of things.

Thanks for the advice! I have a Joye 510 and I drip right on the atomizer. My first 5ml bottle of 28mg is almost out. I really like the flavor. Would you suggest I go down to 24mg for my next bottle, or even lower like 18mg?

Victoria I experienced the same thing when I first started, I figured well I used the 24mg patches why not try the 24mg juice. Pretty much did the same thing as the patches. Buzz first thing, nice dull headache then those lovely nicotine induces twitches at night. Then I remembered why patches didn't work. lol. I'd suggest lowering the Mg's even further to say 12mg? Remember you can always vape more if needed. Right now I'm rocking 10mg.

Nice to know I'm not the only one! How long have you been vaping?

There's quite a bit of science on this, however we really don't know that much about a lot of things, especially all of the chemicals that we take in on a daily basis that haven't been around for very long. Vaping may actually be the saftest thing you do, safer than, for instance, eating the food you eat or drinking the beverages you drink.

For me, I tend to look more to the experiential data that people report. So people are breathing better vaping than smoking, and that's just a given. It's important to realize that if you are addicted to smoking like most of us are or were, that's what you want to compare it to. Quitting nicotine altogether may be a different matter, but provided we are either addicted to it or prefer it, it becomes a comparison between delivery systems. Vaping is by far the safest method long term, and much much safer than smoking.

As for what dose of nic you should be using in order to quit, if you need 36 mg, you need 36 mg. I did and after over a year of vaping 24-30, and not being able to quit smoking no matter how I tried, it was only when I moved up to 36 mg that I was able to do it. 17 days later there is no doubt that I am free for good, I have no desire to ever smoke again, as long as I get enough nic from vaping. I tried 24 mg yesterday and while it didn't make me want to smoke again, my resolve is too strong for that now, it wasn't doing it for me and I broke out my 36 mg juice after a couple hours of struggling with that.

So it's all about what your body needs here and that will differ, I have a friend who has been vaping 9 mg for a couple of years and is completely satisfied, on the other hand a lot of people vape 18, but might vape their face off with that, and probably should consider vaping higher and less, especially if you are even a little concerned about vaping having minor health effects.

For instance, with me, I really notice the drying effects of vaping and if I do it too much I do notice the discomfort. So if I can vape a higher strength and less often that is preferable. Some people just like vaping up a storm though and if that doesn't bother you then go for it :)

Increase your water intake!!! Surprised no one has recommended this, makes a diff.

Very good advice! I actually starting drinking more water RIGHT before you posted that. I noticed vaping makes me super thirsty and I've been drinking Diet Coke like crazy. Will definitely start drinking more water. Wow another reason why vaping is healthy! ;-)

Bought my first set up, an Ego-C while on vacation in Dec. not overly happy with it as the silly little tanks leaked, picked up a Lavatube (Knight Rider here in Canada) and started the very long journey of what I liked best on it I.E. Carto's, carto tanks, CE2's finally gave dripping a good solid go a couple of weeks ago and I've found my "thing" dripping for me has been great. Just waiting for my bottom feeder to come in and that will take care of the portability I liked with the carto tanks. Now if I can just find the "one" all day flavor.. lol Thing to remember Vaping has quite a few variables but once you've found your set up your golden.

Also keep in mind there's no shame in having an actual smoke every once in a while during this whole process I went form probably 2 packs a day, bought my Ego / LT and still smoked (first thing in the morning with my coffee ;o) Now not at all. You'll reach the point where you wont want one anyway.

Smokalo:

I'm still experimenting on PG and VG ratios. It will probably take me some time (and money :() to figure out what works best for me.

That's what everyone goes through :) I remember reading the reviews on Altsmoke's website trying to get the most acclaimed flavors they sell, which were flavors like Vanilla, Tiramisu, and the popular PG tobacco flavors, although I didn't like any of them. However, their Altpremium menthol flavors are really great, imo, such as the Georgia Ice Storm, Apple Frost (my favorite), Bahama Blizzard, Snozzberry Chill, and Blueberry Blast (which isn't menthol, but it tastes very nice and smooth. I like when they add menthol to the flavors because it "improves" the nicotine hit, physiologically and in taste, so you don't have to order very high strength flavors.

Very insightful! Thanks for taking the time to reply. I'm actually glad I made a mistake and started with a higher dose than my analog cigs were giving me, because I think that is what really did the trick for me. After 3 minutes of vaping in the store for my first time, I never wanted a real cig again because I got an amazing buzz, it tasted way better, etc. I'm gonna try going lower though because the headaches are beginning to not be worth it. I need to find a good mg where I don't have to "vape my face off" (LOL), but I eliminate the headaches. I'm not that concerned about the health effects of the vape itself, but I would like to vape higher and vape less often. I also think maybe if I get a flavor boost I may use less juice. I notice the first few vapes off of a freshly dripped atomizer taste the best, so it makes me add more juice more often. Thanks again for your thoughts!
