Hello all!!
I would first like to introduce myself and thank all of you on this forum for all of the info you provide.
I have a few questions that I am hoping you can help me with. My wife and I want to quit smoking and we think this might be a viable option but we have some concerns.

1- Do the vials or cartridges you use to put in the ecig break? If so are they dangerous if you get the juice on you?

2- What is a reputable supplier for the cigs themselves and the cartriges.

3- If she smokes a pack a day and I smoke almost two packs a day what level of nicotine inserts should we get.

Thank you very much in advance for your answers.

Cheers! :)

Hey there, welcome to ECF! Congrats to you and your wife for choosing to quit. This place is packed with information and great people who have helped me a lot.

1. Nope. The cartomizers on my e-cig are made of metal, with a sort of thin rubberized coating on top. They won't break. The bottles that liquid come in are plastic squeeze bottles with dropper tops. It's ok to get some e-juice on your skin, but you wouldn't want to bathe in it. Nicotine will absorb through your skin.

2. There are lots out there. I have personal experience with Electro Nic Stix, who were very helpful and I'm very happy with my purchase. I got liquid from MyFreedomSmokes, and they were also awesome - they sell e-cig kits too. But there are many others - LiteCigUSA, CigNot, Vapor Kings, Vapor4Life, etc.

3. Everyone will be a bit different in this regard, so all I can tell you is my experience. I smoked 30 cigs a day, and I'm doing good with 18mg juice.

There are basically three well-loved e-cigs for beginners. If you want it to look close to a cig, it's the Kr808D-1 or the 510. I have a Kr808D-1 and I love it, but both have loyal fans.

If you're ok with it being bigger and less cig-like, for more battery life and more power, the eGo is a great place to start.

Best of luck! If you have any other questions, let us all know.

Welcome to ECF and the vaping community.

1. ANYTHING can break...But under normal usage, no they don't break. Leakage does occur, and no the juice that comes in the cartridges won't hurt you if you get a little on your fingers. But most will say (and I agree), just rinse off your hands when you do get some on you. PURE nicotine is dangerouse when contacting your skin, but the juice that comes in the cartridges is VERY deluted, and not dangerous to skin contact.

2. Click the "Forum Suppliers" link at the top of the fourm, there is a list of suppliers found to be reputable by ECF

3. No one can really say, every human body is different. Some will need high levels, some low. Only you can decide what is best for you. Get several samples of different levels from 8 to 16 to 24. And try for yourself. You honestly can't hurt yourself by vaping too high amount, your body will tell you to stop when you've had enough before you get "too much".

Hope that helps..

Welcome schmitolo,

The cartridges are made of plastic and can break if you hit them with something hard like a hammer. The juice is harmless, except if it contains nicotine you should avoid swallowing it. I've been a 2 pack/day smoker for nearly 30 years, and I seem to be doing well with 24 mg nicotine juice.

I get most of my supplies from Cignot. Personally I would recommend a Joye 510, because that's what I have experience with. Cignot can sell you a kit which has two batteries, two atomizers, four cartridges, and a battery charger. The 510 batteries only last a couple of hours, so you might consider a Joye eGo. The eGo is the same as a 510, except with a bigger battery that lasts most of the day.

I recommend you get manual batteries rather than automatic batteries.

The cartridges will soon run out of e-liquid, and will need to be refilled. Cignot has some e-liquids that are OK, but there are a number of other great e-liquid suppliers. Consider getting samples of e-liquids with flavors other than tobacco. You may find flavors that you like much better than tobacco.

Good Luck!

Hi! Welcome to ECF!

1. I've never had a vial or cartridge break per se. I have spilled the liquid on myself and got some in my mouth from time to time. It kinda tingles / burns and reminds me of snus. As a smoker of 1.5 packs a day for 12 years, I can say that I've had no ill efffets from coming into direct contact with juice. It's much cheaper to buy blank carts and refill them on your own. Expect to use 5-10 carts a day if you smoke over a pack a day.

2. There are many reputable sources, more than I can count! What kind of ecig are you interested in? The best ones IMHO are cignot.com, jantyusa.com, tastyvapor.us, but there are soo many more! I recommend getting a eGo kit because you'll definitely like it's battery life and ease of use. It uses a 510 atomizer too so if you deride to go with a 510 you can always upgrade easier. Make sure to get a couple extra spare batteries, atomizers, and 30ml juice!!

3. I think its better to start high than low. Go with the highest strength possible, if its too strong you can buy a lower liquid and mix them to make more juice!

Wow thank you so much for your answers!! I didn't expect such a fast response!! You guys are great.
Does the juice that sometimes leaks out ever go in your mouth? As mine and my wifes juice will have nicotine in it we are abit nervous about it leaking in our mouths and getting us sick or worse. Is this something that can happen when using the ecigs?

Thank you all!! I can't tell you how much I appreciate it!!

Yes, it is possible to get a tiny bit of juice in your mouth, especially if the cart or cartomizer is a little overfilled.

It tingles a little (which is how nicotine actually tastes - they process it to take that taste away in cigarettes), but it won't hurt you. The levels of nicotine in the e-juice are very diluted.

I've gotten a fair bit on my hands making juice and what-not, and it's never made me feel sick.

Unfortunately, that will happen a few times in the early going. I just drink some coffee and wash it down. If it's late in the day I substitute 151 rum instead of coffee. It tastes pretty gross, but I've had no adverse effects. It's part of the learning curve.

You will likely have problems such as this. Come back and ask us about it. Many of us have had the same experience and can work out solutions to keep you vapin'.

You're welcome! ECF is a FANTASTIC resource innit? :D The juice tingle in my mouth reminds me of nicotine gum and snus. When I first started vapin' this was a very common experience. There definitely IS a learning curve! My recommendation is to get juice that has some VG in it. The VG is thicker and doesn't run or leak near as much as pure PG. Right now I am using a 50/50% mix and I haven't had any jucie in my mouth at all since!

More important is the nicotine content of the cigarettes you smoked. Someone who smoked 2 packs of ultra light cigarettes might prefer to chain vape 6mg liquid, while someone who smoked one pack of Marlboro Reds would likely want 24mg or higher and vape less often. You can find out the nicotine content of your cigarettes here: Erowid Tobacco Vault : Info on Nicotine Content of Cigarette Brands

If you're a smoker, you've had nicotine in your mouth many many times. It was absorbed just like any nicotine is absorbed no matter if it comes from snuff, snus, chew, gum, inhalers, suckers, vapor, or juice. Same stuff, different delivery.

V8 or raw carrots?

I'd recommend reading The Wonderful World of Vaping in the ECF library, all 6 parts. Learn about the types, some lingo, and it's a fun read.

When you figure out which hardware you want, get some juice with your order. Get different strengths. Get different flavors. The hardware part is easy. Learning the technique to vape is easy. Finding a juice that WORKS is where the true effort and rewards lay.

Read, digest, take your time and ask questions. I've heard there are some helpful people here somewhere...

I smoked camel lights and Marlboro ultralights about 30 cigs a day and am using 24-36mg because at 18mg I was vaping constantly. 10+ carts a day with my 510. I finally got my vaping under control after upping the dose.

...And I was the reverse. I smoked smoked 30 a day some of the most tar-ridden, high-nicotine cigarettes known to man, and 18mg is good for me. In fact, I can go all the way down to 12mg, and be fine most of the time.

How much nic is good for an individual is individual, and, strangely, doesn't seem to be perfectly correlated with how many/what kind of cigarettes you smoked.
