Hello everyone. Have gotten interested in e-cigs and in checking around for the different brands and prices, I found my way here. Looks like a good forum and glad I found it before ordering anything. After doing some reading here, boy, my head is kinda spinning. So much info here that I had not thought of. Guess I'm gonna have to sit back and let some of it sink in. My main concern now is knowing how much to use so that I'm not overdoing on the nicotine. Figuring it out looks complicated. Guess I'll leave it for now and come back to it later and see if I can absorb a little more. I'll be asking pleanty of questions I'm sure. Have a good day everyone.

Lucky you... finding ECF *before* buying your first PV has probably saved you hundreds of dollars and weeks of frustration. Welcome!

Spend a day or three soaking up info, and it'll start making sense. There's a series of videos in a sticky at the top of the New Member's Forum that are practically required viewing anymore, and they're really good.

For more in-depth explanations, DonDaBoomVape (I give that handle a 9.4/10 for "coolness factor", btw) did a 6-part PDF series; it's in the Library section (the stickies at the top), and it helped me out a lot last year.

The ECF Library

Any questions, just post 'em. We're here for ya.

In general - and this is just ballpark - if you vape about as much as you smoked you may be comfortable on the following levels
full strength cigs -> 24mg, some need more
light cigs -> 16-18mg, some need more
ultralight cigs -> 10-12mg, some need more

If you think you are going to start vaping a lot more than you smoked, then definitely get some lower eliquid too so you don't over-nic yourself.

You could center your first juice purchase on the level you think you need, then buy a small bottle that is higher and a small bottle that is lower. If you end up not needing higher or lower, you could mix them to get around the middle level.

Welcome, oplholik :) I know what you mean about the information overload, I was like  when I first came here, lol
The good news is that the people here are real friendly...and smart, too! Be sure to let us know what you end up ordering and how you like it!!! :vapor:

For ordering, I assume that the "Forum Suppliers" is a good place to start looking. But first, I have to figure out what to order, automatic, manual, strength, uh oh, there goes the spinning again.

Set up a list or excel spreadsheet and put down the starter kits offered that interest you. Look at prices, shipping, and the rating of the vendor. Price for Chineese vendors is lower but the wait is at least 2-3 weeks. One thing my friend did was to help me order a starter kit and insisted on a manual e-cig, not automatic. It offers you more control. Good luck!

The most popular threadings for accessories, attys and blank cartomizers etc are 510 and KR808D-1

The most popular 510 brand - Joye, the original manufacturer (and note - that is not "Joy")
The most popular KR808D-1 brand - Vapor4Life

Both come in slim sizes and as fat long-charge models (the fat-battery ones can also use hotter harder hitting LR low resistance parts)

And some general truths about slim ecigs

Anything the same diameter&length of a cigarette will be soon replaced with something better
Anyplace that does not sell blank carts and eliquid should be avoided
Anyplace that charges more than $20 for a slim ecig battery should be avoided
Anyplace that is the only seller of a slim model should probably be avoided
A cart or carto does not last as long as a pack of cigarettes - you need to add juice
All slim ecigs are made in China - some are good, some are not, some are well-supported, some are not
If you want the most flexibility, buy a popular model w/ manual batteries
If it's slim and you don't know what model it really is, whether it's good, who else sells it, what it should cost, do not buy it

I researched information here for about 2 weeks before my purchase and thought I was putting too much work into it, everything was a brand new concept! The only reason why I started looking was because someone mentioned e-cigs in connection with some movie star. Had never heard of one. Anyways, the information like that posted by dormouse really helped put things in perspective. I went with the KR808 and was very happy.
