Okay while I don't think I can really afford to reprint the pipe and due a take two yet I can certainly correct the problems with the size of the model that I had in 3D.

What I want to ask is if I corrected these problems and put the print up for sale on the shapeways site would anyone want it to do their own project with?

P.S.

I certainly will come up with something new later just not atm.

I would like an adjusted prototype.
How much are we talking about.
That is getting a pipe with problems fixed, mailed to the UK.

Well the size of the pipe will be larger so the cost will be more. I paid $30 for my print so with the increase of size I am going to guess about $35 not sure though. As far as shipping goes it is included in the price. I will make the adjustments later hopefully I can have them up for you tomorrow and have the link as well.

My ideal PV would be a 5 volt pipe that uses standard atty's. I have been kicking around making one for a couple weeks, but I am struggling with my design. Battery and booster need so much space.

I like the looks of your pipe. I smoked pipes for a couple years, before changing to cigars.

Hope you get back on-track, or team up and get-r-done.

Seems odd to me that there does not seem to be much of a market for e-pipes.

Nice work...

Its your design.
If you want me to order through you and you add $10.00 or so for yourself, That's fine by me.
If not I will order one myself and send some cash to the (Keep Darchand Modding, Fund).

Thanks
Peter

I am sure that I will keep up with building mods there is no reason to help fund me plus I, along with others I am sure, would rather see that money put to your mods. You have a far greater talent with electronics and you are making great progress with your current mods and I can't wait to see what you might do with a pipe.

Just a little update for now. I have to open a store on the site. I have already made one it hasn't been approved yet. I have made many changes to the pipe, the style remains the same put it is larger and the mouthpiece completely remade. It is possible that when you order they might have a problem printing it because of wall thickness. I have gone over it several times but the wall thickness is a tricky area.

Just wanted you to know this however I don't think it should be a problem and if is one they send a picture of where the walls need to be thickened. I will of course thicken them up if that needs to be done and you won't lose any money the order will just be delayed.

I thought that was an important note and wanted you to know that.

Very impressed so far. I've been wanting a pipe for a while, but hadn't really seen any I liked. This one is shaping up nicely. Once the plans are published, I'd love to buy one :)

BTW, my wife bought me Gabriel Iglesias tickets for Valentine's Day. Can't wait!

"I'm not fat, I'm fluffy"

Thank your for your comment. I agree the pipes that are on the market right now aren't exactly eye catching.

Oh and the Gabriel Iglesias show was excellent I hope you have a good time when you go.

Yeah it seems odd that not too many people are into pipes. When I smoked analogs I never smoker a pipe. I loved the idea after all my Great Grand Father did and I remember how comforting that scent was. Of course the smell with these is gone but it is a nice way to look back into the past.

As far as a 5v pipe mod goes I have a design that has be rattling the inside of my head for a long time now. It would have 2 10440 batteries in the stem, thicker stem but higher voltage. It would also have some other things in it as well and some things that have not yet been seen. Trust me it is a very very exciting design. ;)

I must admit I skipped a portion of this thread, but what kind of switch are you using that you cannot fit it? I use 2.5mm High Tact Switch from Radio Shack in my mini mag mods and I can't see having a hard time fitting these anywhere. They are 6.2 x 6.2 x 2.5mm. A bit of a pain soldering leads, and you need to add your own button, but they fit in many tight spots.

well it isn't more or less that the switch wouldn't fit actually I have worked out a larger hole where it will fit flush and don't have to bend the leads the switch I used is this one. MadVapes LLC sadly the leads broke when I was working with it and it is beyond repair. The switch you are talking about is one I thought about but I hate short leads.

On a side note there is a chance I might be able to salvage my project if I do I will post pics later.

More good news to add to the mix. All changes have been made the shop is now open and you can order the pipe body and the jewel cap and start your own project. The price came in a touch higher than I would have liked but only bit a dollar or two.

Here's the link to the shop on shapeways where you can buy them. If you do good luck and post pics.

It's a secret!
I'm also a pipe and cigar smoker (analog) but the main reason I want a good e-pipe is because it is the most practical way to vape at 5volts without sucking on something that looks like a flashlight.

I have a cigar or pipe in my mouth when I walk my dog, ride my mower, drive my car.... I don't want to just enjoy a 5volt vape in my house. I'm more often outside of my house than in.

When I smoke a pipe, it's most often one of my churchwardens. Again, for totally practical reasons. The long stem means that I don't have to raise my hand all the way up to my mouth. So in the car it's easy to rest my elbow on the armrest or even my belly. When walking, again, I can just let my arm hang at about a 90 degree angle. It's just more comfortable.

I was looking at the ProdigyV2 today and wondering if I could make it look like a pipe. Make a sharply angled bowl that would go about halfway up the body of the V2. It would be purely for looks, but would look better than sucking on a stainless steel rod.

Anyway, I'll join in on the calls for a good pipe or cigar.

The other benefit to an e-pipe (especially churchwarden) is that the batteries are kept a nice distance from the users mouth....

Jason.
To me the benefit of a churchwarden is the long stem containing thin batteries. And the bowl, containing liquid.
OR.
The long stem containing liquid and the bowl contains a battery.

Keep in touch, as your knowledge of analogue pipes may help in the build of e-pipes.

I was thinking of trying to stuff a 5 volt booster in the filter area. I will have to bore it out a bit though. Trying to find a big bowl pipe with a filter area that I can modify. I am not sure if a 18350 will be big enough to drive the booster, and the bowl will have to be massive to accomodate the battery.
I find my self vaping my 5 volt box mod similar to how I used to handle my old analog pipe.
I liked the idea of putting the button on top of the bowl, I used to put my thumb on the bowl of my analog to restrict the air intake.

You bring up a point I wanted to bring up as well when I posted the link to where you can buy the 3d print of my pipe. I scaled up the bowl to where it would hold the battery I wanted to start with but I also made it larger to where you would have to adapt it to fit a smaller battery if you needed one.

The first battery I designed it for was this one.

That battery fit in the casing nicely. However was tight in the bowl that I did print where the jewel cap didn't fit down over it too well but with a slight modification it will now work with my current print.

With the updated model available to buy I increased the size. The diameter of the battery casing to fit a battery easily that is 18 mm in diameter and 36 mm tall with room to spare. Keep in mind this centers the battery and leaves almost an extra quarter inch of room going around the inside diameter for any other needs you might have.

I think that the 18350 would fit nicely in this new model. I have also redesigned the jewel cap to where it has legs to where you can adjust the height of it just in case insuring that the room that is needed is there.

Oh one more thing on the jewel cap. Seeing how it does have legs some one with a touch of creativity might be able to make it a switch that you can press in to contact the positive terminal. It would be nice.

Just wanted to post a quick link. I of course have my print for sale but that probably doesn't interest too many people and there are a lot of interesting styles out there to go with. I found a site with pipes for sale and they look very nice, with prices to match. In any case what I like about this site is that they give you the bowl width and height so if you wanted one you could figure out what size battery to look into getting.

Awesome attempt at a REAL e-pipe! The design looked great and I can see this with some slight modifications, being created. You might want to make another thread calling all the modders to get one of your pipes printed and in their hands to work on.

I think e-pipes absolutely are the answer to long 3.7v or even 5v vaping because they actually look nice (as some other poster said, all the other big battery mods looks like you are sucking on a flashlight or worse 8-o).

I wonder if MacQueen would be interested in working on an e-pipe? Their work is really amazing and I bet their designers could fashion an e-pipe pretty quickly. (EDIT: I sent them an e-mail letting him know that I think it would be a good business decision to make an e-pipe with his designs)

Butz Choquin is a very good pipe manufacturer. I was a pipe smoker myself and I would pay literally anything to get a well designed nice looking e-pipe. Unfortunately I am a complete idiot when it comes to electronic stuff.
If we talk about churchwardian pipe, there is one which might be interesting for Darchand. The german pipe manufacturer "Vauen" has made an interesting pipe series about the "Lord of the Rings". In this series is a churchwardian pipe based on the Gandalf-Pipe. Just if someone might be interested.
So I just wanted to let you know, that I am very interested in pipe modifications and would really like to pay much for a good e-pipe. So I'm really excited about some future results. Keep up the good work:).

Yes indeed I got some new switches had some trouble installing but I have big hands and it was a small area to work but I got the thing working! Pics will come later. Had to repaint some because I scuffed it up nicely while getting it put together.

Thanks for the coment and support. I agree that having something like a flash light in your face would not be fun and a pipe feels so much more natural. I think I said before I was never a pipe smoker but then again I always did enjoy smoking a good hookah. Hmm maybe I should do an e-hookah next?

I don't think I should post a new thread on this so people will go buy the print I am okay if I am the only one with one it was for the fun of it and to try something new.

Let us know though what MacQueen says. I would love to have one of their pipes. I can just picture sitting watching all of the Lord of the Rings while puffing on an e-churchwarden.

Thanks for the tips. They both have great looking pipes. I love their ranger pipe it looks beautiful. If I could I would do a 3d print and make it with a wood finish where it has that classic look. If any one knows how I could go about doing a wood finish for a plastic pipe let me know.

Couldn't you just have a subtle wood grain pattern physically made into the pipe exterior and then paint it (maybe with paint washes?)? If smooth is desirable, just faux finish it to look like wood. I have clients that paint fiberglass columns to look like marble and have seen some faux wood paintings before. Then just clear coat over it and you have a glossy wood finish!
