In the last week the hubby and I bought ourselves Reos - he got the grand, I got the mini. Love them - nice, well made, they feel great, love having our juice on board, etc...

However, we were carto users so we're not atty savvy. We did buy some to go with the Reos - Cisco 306 in a range of 1.5, 1.8 and 2.0.

I had previously only used (once or twice) cheap attys that came with kits. Never liked them, never had patience I guess to break them in - always had that primer taste and even once blowing that out and running tons of juice through them I still detected what I describe as "electronic taste". We just found cartos seemed to give good flavor without that metal taste.

But so many people swear that a good atty will let the juice flavor really shine (not to mention concerns regarding polyfill).

So we got our new attys in...tried them.....but..still...not our favorite vape. Back to using cartos on the Reo (which works perfectly fine) so we're still happy but I really WANT to find an atty that we like. Is it just us? Are we atty challenged? Are we doing something wrong? Or do attys just taste like that, inherently? Suggestions?

The Cisco atomizers do not have the primer. So any taste you are getting is not from that.

The LR306 attys need to stay pretty wet to perform well. When you let the juice get too low you will get an "off" taste. However when they are juiced correctly they give great taste and vapor.

Lot of people like the Cisco attys. I have tried them and am content with the Joye LR510 instead.

As a whole learning atty's might take a few tries. Try the blind squonking method. Draw without firing, until you hear a gurgle and get a little resistance. Stop squonking! Then fire and vape.

I use cartos exclusively on my REOs, I just prefer them. I use an atty on a small box mod for trying new juices, or for a flavor break between the ones I usually use in my REO. For me, I still can't get consistently good vapes with an atty. I am apparently atty challenged. But it's all good, since I am really happy using cartos. I use Boge LR 2.0 that I get from Crystal Clear Vaping, 15 Carto Deal-15 cartos, and a drip tip plus free shipping and with code ECF5off they are $19.

I've been vaping for more than a year and I still have not found the perfect atty. My biggest problems have been with the amount of vapor and the tightness of the draw (I don't like it real hard). For a while now, my favorite has been the "SLB" 510 LR (low resistance) from Myvaporstore.com | The Electronic Cigarette Super Store They're by no means perfect. I end up throwing half or more of them away because the draw is too tight or the vapor is weak. When I find a good one, it works great. They're just not consistent from one to the next, but I've found the same thing with any other atty I liked at all. I've tried some other attys many others rave about, including Cisco's (hated them) I thought the 306 was too hot and spit juice in my mouth and the 510LR vapor production was weak. I only vape menthol, I never found any other flavor strong enough for me.

I'm looking forward to reading other people's suggestions on this topic. I've never gotten the suggestion that attys have to be "broken in" either. I've vaped a poor atty for a day+, and it didn't get any better. When I get good one, it's good right off the bat.

It's reassuring to hear I'm not the only one who thinks attys are inconsistent. I've never tried cartos, I might try it to try it, but for regular use I'd like to stick with an atty so I can bottom feed it. You have to fill cartos, right? They won't bottom feed?

You do not need to fill a cartos. Just put it on and squonk. Blind squonk works well. Might need to squonk more often right at first. Cartos work great. And if you don't fill them first they last longer.

Karen is right, I don't fill my cartos prior to using them on the REO, just blind squonk a few times, then vape. I think this also lets them last longer. For me, cartos are much more forgiving than attys and I get a more consistant vape with them. Also, I don't really see much difference in the flavor between cartos and attys, but depending on your sensitivity to taste, that could be much different for you.

OK, thanks nerak! All this time I thought they were unsquonkable. I'm gonna order some right now!

I thought they were silly to use on a REO at first. But after trying them I changed my mind! I now use them on my Min's and Mini Woodvils. They work great!

Let me start by saying since i started vaping in July I've used nothing but cartos primarily untill now I just got a couple of HH357's and they are outstanding short break in (at least for me) great draw vapor and on and on. They are pricey but most people are getting over 3+months out of them so they kinda pay for themselves. They say theres some learning curve to these but I'm not sure why there's a short tutorial and instructions and they seem suuuper simple to me. The draw is a little airy but that works for me i don't personally like the picked face I get as the draw tightens on cartos

I've had the complete opposite experience as I've always used atomizers and every time I try a cartomizer based on all the rave reviews I think they taste gross. The ONLY time I have bad tastes in atomizers is if I burn them dry and the wick gets charred in which case I de-wick or throw the thing away.

I've used standard Joye 510's, LR Joye 510's, IKV LR 510's, Volcano Magma/Inferno Atty's, Cisco spec 306 & 510's, to name a few.

While I have had good, and some bad experiences with different atty's on my Reo, I just started using the 1.7 RESURRECTOR carto from CCV and have to say I love it so far. Same as others have said with cartos, no pre filling, just a few blind squonks then on to vaping. about 13 hours in on this carto and the flavor and vapor are very good. They are a bit longer than the standard 510 carto which I like. They have a great deal for 15 of them that includes a drip tip.
Still chasing that perfect atty, but these are great for now.

Joe, when you have an atty with a tight draw, you might try drilling out one of the holes at the base of the atty. That will usually make for a more airy draw.
There is a stickied thread pertaining to this. Its worth a shot rather than throwing an atty away.

This.

The HH.357 is a magical atty. It took a couple days to re-teach myself how to blind-squonk on these. In that time, it got "broken in" and it's providing the most perfect vapour I've gotten from anything riding on my REO.

The HH357 has destroyed my love of cartos :(.I was a 1.7 ohm resrurector lover until this damn atty.I am on week 1 with my first HH357 and cleaned it out twice already.Working as strong as out of the box.I went ahead and ordered another just to have as a back up.My 3 boxes of 1.7 cartos are just collecting dust now and on back up duty if my 357's ever go out.

It is true that you get a much cleaner flavor from atties compared to cartos. Obviously since there isn't filler material that gets in the way. Using an atomizer on a REO is very much like regular dripping. In that you have to prime them first. Afterwards you will have to feed it after 5 hits. So, some might find that it is tedious to constantly go through that process.

Cisco 306's do run hotter then normal and each ohm suits a particular flavor better then others. Tobaccos do well with 1.5 ohms because they are able to handle the heat and it brings the flavor out. 1.8 and 2 ohms do well with fruit/dessert flavors since they can't handle a lot of heat and burn quite quickly. Also, they don't have primer in them.

Atties may or may not be as consistent depending on how you look at it. If you feed it correctly then you can have the same experience every time until you need to clean it. Which I recommend after you finish with a bottle to keep it working at an optimal level. Also, you don't have to worry about burning as compared to cartos. The last benefit of using an atomizer is that it is much more efficient in the use of juice and won't go through it as fast. So, nothing is wasted in the end.

Cartomizers are indeed a tiny bit more consistent in comparison to an atomizer. Although, the flavor does degrade fairly quickly as well due to the condensation that seeps back into the filler material.

Other atomizers to try out would be the IKV 510's or Joye LR 510's

Thanks all for your comments! In particular, I'm intrigued by the HH .357 - but would that work well on a mini with 3.7 set up? Doesn't that atty need higher voltage?

Thanks!
Welcome, jlazarus! :)

The lower resistant 357s work very well with 3.7v setups. The 3.0Ω 357 would work best at higher voltage. I use a 1.5Ω 357 but would also like a 2.0Ω to try someday. I currently only use 3.7v batteries. :)

Thanks, bushmaster. I have heard about that, but never tried it.
