I have a dumb ... question. With all the talk about using brass or steel screen material and the tea bags I had a strange thought. Has anyone thought about using steel wool? It would be course enough to wick liquid but no problems with melting or stray strings. Just a thought.

OMG!! After thinking abut this more and more I decided to try it but I work nights and have my days and nights messed up so needless to say I didn't make it to the store to look for any steel wool. I was looking for something else in the kitchen and found a box of unused, uncoated (no soap or anything) copper brillo pads. I boiled in water to make sure any residual anything was off of it and cut it down to size and stuffed it in my cart, filled it with juice and started smoking. I have been smoking that same cart for the amount of time I usually would have topped off at least 3 times, just a small hint of leak in the small hole on the side (I am using a 901) and no funny taste or anything. Actually the liquid tastes better than with any other filler. Vapor production is awesome. I will post later this week after trying this for a few days but so far so good.

My husband brought up a good question and I have been looking and can't find an answer. Is this safe?

Stay away from copper.. It produces fumes when heated! Not sure if it would get hot enough but why risk it.
Stainless does not produce fumes and neither does brass or aluminum.

i tried a stainless steel scouring pad and it was too loose. no matter how tight i packed it the liquid wicked too fast and flooded the atty. i even tried packing it 2/3 with the steel scouring pad and 1/3 with fluval and back to the taste. so i guess back to the original question. what about steel wool. it seems that it can be packed a little tighter and would hold the liquid a little better but would there be any problems with using it?

I've been using three 1/2 inch brass pipe screens for about a month now with no problems whatsoever. Except I had to drop the nic back from 36 to 24 because it was too strong. The screens aren't rolled up either, just formed into a cone (so that it touches the atty).
What kind of nic juice are you using? I'm using 50% JC original, 15 % VG (Wiltons) and 35 % 48 mg unflavored. Maybe the VG is causing mine to work because it is thicker? I'll try 100 % JC original this weekend and post the results. If the it's not the VG, I'll post photos on how to use the pipe screens.

In the mean time, would you please try this:
1) Fill the cart with nic juice and then hold it upside down (slightly tilted) for approx 1 minute and note if it drips or even puddles around the cart lip. If it drips or puddles (even a little), you can bank on a flooded atty.

VERY interesting! I use about 30% Wiltons VG in my everyday mix.

Please do post photos... Inquiring minds want to know! ;)

Thanks in advance! :)

A filler I have been testing for the past 2 days is Velcro. The furry side, which I believe is polyester, could be nylon.

Why? Have you ever gotten your Velcro strapped shoes wet, yet the straps still hook-n-latch? It's obvious that the Velcro is wet, yet still almost dry to the touch.

The way it's woven allows for good (not great) retention of liquid and superb release. So far, results have been great. No liquid goes unused.

I've already introduced my "holy grail cart filler" idea, which would be plastic free.

I thought of steel wool, but it always rusts when I use it on dishes, so I eliminated that idea. I'm trying to eliminate airborne particulates when I vape, so that won't work. I'd like to eliminate plastic entirely (first cart filler, then the carts).

I think the key is in metal mesh, so that it wicks and so that no particles break off with usage over time. The brass mod sounds good, but I'm going to try my stainless steel french press filter first.

has anyone tried using analog cigarette filters? I just got my e-cig about 3 weeks ago and noticed right away those carts dont last nearly as long as they say, so I bought a bottle of e-juice and use clean cigarette filters when i need to change the wick, I have a luci and you can change the wick 3 times per cigarette filter, so for 5 or 6 bucks, you get 60 wicks. They work just as good as the wick that comes in the cart originally.
