Hello all,

I quit smoking cigarettes almost 5 months ago. Did the Chantix route and it helped during the initial quitting phase. So months later, I am still jones-ing and at times find myself getting irritated at stupid things like never before. I assume it's because of my nicotine addiction. I've been told by other ex-smokers (one guy for years) that the urge never really goes away.

So I tried a couple of the off the shelf e-cigarettes and I think they help somewhat. So I believe I am ready for the next step and actually plunk down some $$ and get the real thing.

I found this forum last week and have been reading as much as time allows. I am confused to say the least so here's my initial questions:

  1. Is there somewhere here that explains what pieces are needed (for a complete e-cigarette)?
  2. Is there somewhere here that explains what the various pieces do?
  3. I see information on variable voltage, different ohms and such (EE by trade). Is there somewhere here that explains these?
  4. I see a lot personal opinions about which is best. Is there a list of inexpensive e-cigarettes just in case I decide no

I appreciate any and all help.

Phil

Well, the info is spread out but, you will want a good starter kit. Others will come along with recommendations too, I'm sure but, this is what I give to friends and family that want to switch to vaping. It's inexpensive, easy to fill, clean and the clearomizers are cheap for it too

$16.85 EGO-CE4S 6-in-1 USB Rechargeable 650mAh Electronic Cigarettes Health Keeping Set - black / double e-cigarette / US charger / USB cable at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

The parts are, the battery - need that to power the clearomizer (tank looking part)
Clearomizer - holds juice has wicks and an atomizer inside with a drip tip attached - it is what makes the vapor.
Charger - that's the USB cable you attache to the battery to charge it.

There are so many different devices and preferences. You could find answers to all of those questions with some research on this forum. Honestly if you google any of those topics it will likely link you to multiple threads here with an answer. As for a cheap starter I would recommend a ego twist (excellent intro to vv) with a few evods, that's what I recommend to all my friends that ask. Unless they are very dedicated to vaping and money isn't a problem, then I recommend researching some mods seeing as the money will likely be spent later down the road anyway.

A week or so into my adventure on this site, I stumbled on the EFC Library. I found the "Wonder world of Vaping" posts a fun read as well as very informative. I actually think they should be required reading for all noobs, because if I had read them first, I could have saved myself from a stupid post or two in the beginning.

Not that your post was stupid at all, I'm just saying... it's a nice swig of the basics and can only be built on.

Yeah this is a very huge arena and is very heard to weed through it all to find the basics. I just launched my blog about 5 minutes ago if you want to check it out. I still have a maintenance post and a couple others, but there is more than enough there for someone to buy their first items (or know what to buy for their first items). I am still cleaning up a few typos, and if you check it out, let me know what you think. I was noob very recently so I wanted to document everything before it clouded with other knowledge gained.

OP feel free to PM me anytime for any "stupid" questions. The only stupid questions are those not asked.

Thanks, mine is directed more at someone that just wants to know exactly what to buy that is simple, easy to maintain and without investing a ton. So if you start and decide to go advanced you will not have invested a fortune on the start up.

I also wrote it from a point of view of just do this without any real options. But I did so because when someone asks what they should do, I always see people send a ton of options which doesn't answer the direct question, and keeps your head spinning with, "well what should I do, still too many options to decide."

@zevyn, great link. Already learning more myself.
@bill - my dear friend, as always pbursardo is a straight shooter.

Hi welcome to "vaping" !

seems I keep saying it, but guess it's because I believe it is the best bang-for-the-buck

buy an EVOD Kit by 'Kanger' they are simple, strong, elegant, and priced right...

what city in S. Fl ? like to suggest going to a Vape Store and looking/touching products and being able
to test taste some 'e-juices' and the people will point you in the right direction...

-Genuine Kanger Evod Starter Kit- SILVER - The Vapor Lady Lounge Electronic Cigarette and Vaping e Cig Store Mini Protank, Protank, Puritank and Evod Starter Kit Florida USA
-http://www.vaporbeast.com/Kanger-Evod-Full-Kit-p/35-0212-000.htm
-Kanger E-VOD Starter kit, Kanger EVOD clearomizer, Kanger eVod Cartomizer
-Kanger eVod Kit - Purple

find the right device and some good juice and nicotine level and you'll be a happy vapor

good luck and keep us informed :thumb:

@puf, ha, you summed up my site in just a few lines (evod and ego battery, only way to start). I agree with promoting the Vapor Lady Lounge store as her prices are great with a 3.50 dedicated shipping cost. We need to get her elected to president of vapor land, haha

Hi puf :)

I live in Sunrise, just outside of Ft. Lauderdale. I haven't tried yet but I plan on Googling for a local store and see what I come up with.

I just looked at that EVOD starter kit and I like what I see so thanks for that. I've been roaming around here and the web most of the day and what strikes me most is the sizes of some of these. I mean some are gi-normous!! Not to rankle anyone but dang, if I want to play baseball, I will go to the park! :D

I may put something together myself also.
Looking at the Kanger Mini Protank 2, which appears to be fairly new (definitely smaller)? Will get some good batteries, spare parts and figure out what juice I like and I should be set.

Well, I've done some research :)

I am going to do a cost effective, roll my own rig for now and see how things go. I figure if all goes well, I will go after some serious gear.

For this, I have narrowed things down to the following:

1. Either a Davide Glassomizer or a DBox PuriTank and I am leaning towards the Puritank
2. eGo-C Twist battery

Probably going to order from FastTech (one reason for Puritank as they do not have the Davide).

Your thoughts on this would be appreciated and I do have a few questions.

Do I need to buy an eGo to 510 adapter (it's hard to tell from some sites)?
Should I buy extra coils up front?
Can either of these take rebuildable coils?

Will probably have more ?? lol

Thanks. Phil
