I'm getting massive flooding with my cotton wicks. Am I using too much cotton? I have 32 gauge kenthal and I have tried 10 wraps and I have tried 5 wraps still flooding?! Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
its a rebuild on the mini kanger protank 3 and am using my vamo 3. I used a 2 mm screw driver to wrap the kenthal and I wrapped it 5x and I got flooding then I tried 10 wraps and still flooding.
Cotton is kind of tricky at first. You are either using too much or too little. It's really difficult to explain. Even after watching videos it took me a few tries. My best shot: it shouldn't be so tight fit so it moves your coil, but no so loose that you don't feel resistance at all. Do you have a picture to look at before you put juice on it?
I had flooding with cotton when I started. I had too much cotton, and my tails on either side of the coil were too long. Sometimes less is more. A little extra can help with MAXVG-type liquid though.
Number of wraps doesn't really matter unless flooding only occurs on certain power settings. 5 wraps of 32 Kanthal of should be fine (of the top of my head) for about 1.8 Ohms. Please always check resistance before firing though.
I finally got one not that doesn't flood. Not exactly sure what I did but ended up doing 5 wraps on a 1.5 mm screw driver and rolled the cotton nice and tight. Talk about blowing clouds wow I'm impressed hopefully my next one will be as good.
With bottom coil clearos like protank and evods, i find that it's better to roll the cotton tighter. Thread it thru the coil and fluff up the ends. I tend to use a flavour wick to prevent spitbacks into my mouth. Cotton as a flavour wick has never worked well for me. I use ekowool, silica or butcher's twine as flavour wick.
Just note that the amount of cotton to use also depends on the topper, wattages used, how you draw (hard pulls or gentle), etc.
