Hey all,

New to the forum. Have been reading for the past few hours and have learnt a lot.

4 days ago I came down with a bad chest infection which has prevented me from smoking regular cigarettes. I've decided to try and stay off them and the first thing that came to mind were electronic cigarettes.

Ive never tried them before but have of course seen them in use.

I smoke around 40 Marlboro Reds or Mediums a day so I do like a strong smoke, after reading many of the threads on this forum I have seen a lot of talk about throat hits and vapour effects etc. which has left me pretty confused about what I should be going for.

I was just wondering if anyone out there could suggest a good choice of e-cigarette in the UK that would perhaps satisfy a (hopefully) ex-heavy smoker?

The 2 most accessible brands I have found in the UK are the Gamucci and Milano Unit's but I don't know if these are actually any good.

I don't want to buy a device that I find does nothing but blow weak air and nicotine as I know that isn't going to do anything for me.

Apologies if this has been asked before but there are many threads here and sorting through them is quite difficult (even with search ;))

Thanks

I'm very new to vaping and am not familiar with what is available in the UK. I'm sure others with more knowledge will offer up advice on that score. MY advice is to pick a pv starter kit and order it! Just jump in! You will be amazed! I was a 2 pack a day'r (Marlboro-reds). Comparing the taste of e-cigs and analogs is like apples to oranges, however it is MUCH more than blowing weak air and nicotine! It really does simulate inhaling smoke. Many people on this forum chose the 510 because of it's "throat hit" and affordability. When I chose my starter kit a mere 10 days ago I chose the most cost effective one, thinking that I wouldn't lose much money if I didn't like it! I liked it! There is no way to describe it with out trying it.

Did you read DonDaBoomVape's sticky at the top of this forum? He does a great job of consolidating a lot of info in an attractive, digestible format. There's a LOT of info on e-cigs so there are no easy answers, but as a former heavy smoker myself here are some of my thought after a month of vaping:

1) Most seem to agree the 510 offers the best "throat-hit" in of the cigarette-style models, and is a safe bet to start with. Throat-hit seems to be a term for the satisfying feel that a nic-fix gives you in your throat/upper lungs... like the first smoke of the day.

2) "Hybrid" models like the janty-stick offer more vapor production and an even better throat-hit, and seems to be one of those "once you go there you never want to go back" things. But they are singificantly larger than a normal cigarette. I've not tried a hybrid as I like the smaller cigarette-style devices.

3) As a heavy smoker you may tend to think that a higher-MG e-juice would be more effective at curbing urges. I went with "high" 18mg e-juice and I tend to feel the effects of too much nicotine without vaping nearly as much as I smoked. I never had this feeling with cigarettes even after chain-smoking. I would suggest trying some 12mg or 18mg just to make sure it doesn't make you sick if you vape "too often".

Good luck! Hope your chest condition clears up.

I too am a newbie, only been vaping about 2 weeks.
I chose the Joye 510. I decided on that one because of all the good reviews that it gets, and it is a pretty good e-cig.
I also got the usb pass through, it is a necessary addition for vaping at home to save on the puny batteries that a 510 has.
My only suggestion is go for the manual batteries, you can heat up the atomizer before you take a drag and get better vapor, and you do not have to worry about getting your atty too wet and it getting down in the auto batteries and messing them up.
My next 2 projects are a nicostick and a "detonator" mod.
I just gotta get more vapor:lol:
