I'll just go ahead and share my story so far with you wonderful folks. I first saw e-cigs years ago at a local mall and it seemed too expensive and snake oil to gain much interest. I thought it was another placebo type thing like the power balance bands that are going around now.

Recently at my current job I noticed one of my colleagues puffing on something inside and literally said, "What the fu.. are you doing? Smoking inside?" He basically told me that he wasn't smoking, and just vaping. I believe he had a Prodigy V2. He let me taste a few of his flavors and let me know how it works. This seemed much different than what I saw at the mall. Needless to say I was intrigued.

So eventually I was interested enough to bring it up with my parents about how much money you can save and how much healthier it is for you than smoking. I told her that there's a whole growing community around this and that there are many options. I also said that there are many really bad e-cigs and over priced nonsense out there.

Well apparently this whole conversation sparked some interest in my mother as well. If not for the health reasons, for the money reasons. You see other than just the cost of smoking analogs, the company she works for takes $80 a month out of her pay just for smoking. I guess she'd been talking to my sister about it and they decided to go to the mall one day and there happened to be an e-cig stand there. The slick salesmen working there talked about a buy 2 get 1 free deal with a life time warranty and all the other slick tricks of their trade.

So it was decided, much without my own input that it'd be perfect for all 3 of us to go in on it together. My mom approached me one day saying we should all go to the mall on Jan 1 to check out the e-cig stand. I agreed, because I thought it'd be good to get them into it, without knowing they had this whole deal in mind.

So I party with a bottle of Vodka for New Year's Eve and was entirely hung over on the 1st and not really feeling like going to a crowded public place like the mall. As soon as I wake up I noticed my mom was already patiently waiting for me to come around to go to the mall. I told her that if her and my sister wanted to get the e-cigs they should go, this is when she informed me of the buy 2 get 1 free deal, and their price. She said they were about $124 each normally, but with the deal would cost us $80 each. I reluctantly agreed but told her I'd just give her cash since I didn't feel like going anywhere in public due to my head feeling like it was in a vice.

So I head out to the bank, go to the house, and hand my $80 cash to my mom and hang out with my dad until she returns with my sister. Of course the slick salesman upsells them both on getting 3 of their 'better' kits that included an extra battery that they normally charge $50 for, for only an additional $30. Of course they both decided to get this 'awesome' deal without consulting me first and now I owe them an extra $30.

I was a little annoyed that they did this, but I was too hungover and at the time too excited about starting this new healthier alternative to my deadly habit to care. The models we ended up with are the Chinese made "Fifty-One Trio" which is seemingly designed in every aspect to be a cash cow. This is not what I got excited and intrigued about earlier on when my associate from work was showing me his cool e-cig stuff.

Well after searching on the internet I find out that the only thing worthy of these units, other than being at least decent quality albeit over priced, is the life time warranty, and that the 510 or Joye eGo seem to be really popular because they are cheap and customizable. I thought to myself, at least my mom and sister will be saving money and potentially be living healthier, the cost of it was worth that alone.

To conclude my long winded life story (well the last 5 days) of my life, I ended up ordering a Joye eGo and some e-juice online on Sunday the 2nd, and decided to bite the bullet on my first e-cig mistake. I won't regret it, because at least I got my mom in the door for this. My Joy eGo comes with 2 full e-cigs (got it from puresmoker, still on delivery). I have some Bobba's Bounty and various other samples coming from Alien Visions e-juice.

If you're still reading this after my long rant I commend you. Only thing left to say is that I'm already experiencing a serious sore throat, feeling like strep. I've been drinking enough water to drown a fish, and if I need to piss anymore I'll start to wonder if I have a bladder infection. I know this will pass because it's a detox symptom from quitting cigs.

I've already cut down my smoking severely. I used to smoke a pack a day, now I've stretched a pack I opened on Sunday and still have 8 cigs left today. I'm impatiently awaiting my new toys and juice, and can't wait to get those going.

Now finally I just have one question. What are your favorite juices and juice dealers? Also where's a good place to get started on making my own mixes? I'm the kind of guy that goes balls deep into hobbies like this. I was hoping to mess around with flavors and flavorless nicotine solutions to get my perfect custome mixes going.

Also anyone else can feel free to share their story with me. As you may know, I like stories :)

Hello PastaMonster. Welcome to ECF! It's sounds like you've already made a good decision in getting yourself an eGo. You won't be disappointed.

Juices, juices...what flavors and where to get them!?? I think that was one of the most tedious challenges for me. It's a good thing you like to "go balls deep into hobbies like this". I don't do a lot of DIY myself, but have ordered in some plain VG and PG from Liberty Flights with a few different flavorings. Their prices always seems reasonable to me. You can pick up DIY stuff pretty much any place you buy juices, though. Some of my favorite suppliers for the the pre-mixed are FreedomSmokeUSA and Gourmet Vapor. Gourmet Vapor (and some others that I haven't tried) will even let you create your own flavors so you can try them out before you buy all of the flavorings.

I'm sure some other DIYers will be chiming in to give you some good suggestions soon. Good luck and happy vaping!!

And I forgot...Gourmet Vapor is still having a sale going on through today. 60% off e-liquid flavors only (but you can still create your own). The code is: VAPETV60

Hey PastaMonster.
Its a great goal you have for a smoke free family.:2cool: Just remember that you only have control over yourself and that your Mom and sister will have to take care of themselves. Be there for them, but don't try to force them. If someone would have tried pushing me to hard, I'd probably still be smoking.:( Glad your here and enjoy the journey. :) Oh, I DIY so can't help much on the flavors unless you want to mix your own.:vapor:

Welcome to ecf. I'm glad you found your way here. You will find this an invaluable source of information and ideas. I'm glad to hear you aren't letting a little sore throat deter you. Hang in there. It will go away soon and you will feel much better.

The search for the perfect juice is half the fun. I'm sure you've already read somewhere on these forums that it is best to order a variety of sample bottles to see what flavors you will like. My favorites are: Liquidxpress (their hfc and taboo are good tobacco-like flavor which most folks think they want in the beginning.) Lately I have become a big fan of Tasty Vapor, especially their Atomic Cinnacide and Backwoods Brew for their waffle flavor. Everybody's tastes are different though so you will have to decide for yourself what works best for you. You will most likely hate some of the samples you try, but you will find others that you love. Juices sometimes need a little time before they reach the peak of flavor. If you don't like a flavor let it sit a week or so and then give it another chance. Keep in mind that your tastebuds will start to change also. Enjoy the adventure!

Hey, there! Isn't a great feeling when you can actually see the light at the end of the (smoking addiction) tunnel? I only recently started myself, but it's going much better than any other time I quit. I have noticed my back has been hurting and I'm wondering if that's withdrawal, too, since I'm only vaping an 8 mg juice. I ordered some more juice yesterday, and upped the nic content (had been smoking PAD ultra lights). I'm so glad you and your family have discovered the joys of vaping!

Hey everyone, I posted right before bed last night/this morning, and I just got up. The first thing I did was check this thread. Thank you all for the responses. I have read all of them. I'm going to try some of your suggestions about juices and DIY.

Most of all I want to say thanks for the warm welcome. You all seem like great people. My mom and sister seem into it, my aunt and uncle seem curious too. I think I might get my dad into it if I let him have my extra eGo, but I won't force it on him.

Thanks again guys. You're awesome :)

Good call buying something other than the Smoke51 Trio for yourself. Smoke 51 is a total ripoff for spare parts etc. They charge $50 for a battery (should be like $12-15). Save this link - if you scroll down to Trio it lists some other compatible brands which might have cheaper parts or carts, like Blu. And help them figure out how to refill carts themselves. This is a compatibility list of just many rebranded models...
A Brief Cartridge and Atomizer Compatiblity Guide | Excellent Electric Cigarette Information!

Re your family members refilling their Smoke 51 carts - here is a video of refilling Blu carts - note using the paperclip through the mouthhole to push up the inner cart (which is what holds the stuffing and juice). My M401 has little carts that have a similar recessed juice cup.

And eventually you all might want to replace worn out white cart stuffing with blue foam (it can be cut from Marineland Rite-Size U foam sleeve from the Petsmart Aquarium Dept. For your 510 you can buy cheap precut pieces at simplyejuice.com and I started by also cutting those down for my M401)
Blue foam demo for M401 carts (similar to trio carts)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjFTxCpK47E
510's often use a tapered flat piece like the precuts at simplejuice

re juices...

I only use Boba's Bounty when I feel really needy for a big TH - like I'll add a drop to my cart. Leaves my throat burning a bit so I don't use it all the time.

My favorite vendors...

FreedomSmokeUSA (when they aren't having a different special sale the code freedomsmokeusa gets 10% off). I think every time I've ordered juice from them they've thrown in a free 3ml sample of something. In their regular sizes they have just about any flavor you can think of (or not think of, like garlic) and you can choose nicotine, PG/VG ratio for most, add extra flavor if you want). Their sampler sizes though are only 24mg nic and fixed pg/vg.

Backwoods Brew - nice complex flavors and aromas

Gourmet Vapor, mainly for fooling with their Flavor Creator - mix up to 4 flavors, name it, and buy it

Velvet Vapors (which unfortunately just closed for about a month due to a family emergency) - May be my favorite place for fun flavors. Their Velvet PG/VG blend is so smooth, and I just love some of their flavors. Vanilla Almond Tobacco is unlike any 555 I've tried elsewhere - their is very vanilla with just a smooth almond (not a nutty flavor) and a bit of TH. And their Raspberry Ginger Ale is probably the most fun juice I've tried - tingly TH from that ginger

I've only been vaping a couple of months (though I've bought many dozens of juices from at leats 10 companies). My personal favorites so far

FSUSA Desert Ship (Turkish blend, smells a bit like a freshly opened pack)
FSUSA oRYental (a sweet tobacco. RY4 is a tobacco with vanilla and caramel. FSUSA's RY4 is not very sweet at all. oRYental is)
FSUSA Chocolate (mainly to add to a tobacco cart sometimes)

Backwoods Brew Casablanca (Turkish w/ some cocoa)
Backwoods Brew Peach (yummy along and I add to tobacco carts too for peach tobacco)

Velvet Vapors Vanilla Almond Tobacco, Raspberry Ginger Ale (the also have a plain Ginger Ale)

^^ Nice info there; thanks.

Still waiting on my order to arrive. I'm trying to cut down on analogs while I wait (and being sick with whatever cold/flu thing is rampant in my city is helping that). But that juice advice should come in handy. I want to try to stick to some of the more premium juices because I've read they tend to be cleaner (where Chinese juices have sometimes been show to contain things they should not), because smoking analogs was expensive and if I can manage to quit those, I'll have quite a bit extra money to spend on juice.

Just got my package from Alien Visions E-Juice containing 10 sampler bottles of their e-juice. I'm still waiting on my Joye eGo, but in the mean time I have some great juice to put in my Trio.

The guys at Alien Vision seem like they have great customer focus. Or maybe I'm just easily impressed by having a message written on the envelope of "You Rock!!" with a smiley face drawn between the dots of the exclamation points.

EDIT: I'm interested in getting a drip tip for the eGo, will any 510 drip tip work with it?

The eGO is also a 510 - as far as threading of the components goes. The numbers reflect the threading. Anything 510 (atomizers, cartomizers, batteries) is compatible with anything else 510.

I liked your story...but you didn't finish it. ;-)

What did your Mom and Sister think about their kits? And what do they think about you foregoing the mall kit for something else?

There are many juice vendors out there. Some make "designer" juices that you can tweak. Gourmet Vapor is one of these. There are SO many flavors, and many are made (designed) by customers. You can choose the percentage of PG/VG, the strength of the nicotine, and the strength of the flavor. You can even design your own if you wish...and publish it for others to try. LOL

My sister likes it enough that she bought a couple of the over priced bottles at the mall, $25 for 25ml of standard menthol flavor. My mom loves it because she'll be saving money and isn't even smoking the e-cig as much as analogs.

She seemed wary but interested about me buying another one. I guess she's old school about trusting someone who can set up a shop at the mall, over stuff that can be sold on the internet. I told her that the eGo was almost universally acclaimed, and that it was easy to find parts cheap for it. I said the only drawback I can find vs what we got at the mall was that there isn't a lifetime warranty on it.

Welcome to the wonderful world of vaping! Although I have only been analog free for a little over a week, I too did extensive research before I ordered my first kit and liquids. I would like to suggest:

Electronic Cigarette by Halo

I ordered a sample pack from them and have found two flavors (Torque 56 and Freedom Juice) which I enjoy immensely. They manufacture their juice in U.S.A. and each bottle has a batch number and an expiration date, which from what I read, is their lab (yes their juice is made in a lab) standard. Also, to reinforce the quality of Halo's liquids, check out some of the non-biased video reviews on Youtube. Halo is currently my supplier of choice and once I get paid on Friday I am ordering a 30-ml 18mg bottle of each of my faves. Again, congrats and welcome!

I'm not sure how others would do it but I blew mine out into a tissue! Then dripped a few drops in the atomizer and puffed it a few times with out inhaling it, when it cooled down dripped a few more in it and and it was pretty much ready to go! Seems some come in dry and some have the primer fluid in them! as you go the atomizerr will go through a break in period and the taste will get better and better!

Oh yes - the primer in attys (generally all attys have primer or at least might have).

First blow it out into a tissue

after that you have some choices

1. the long way - clean with vodka or grain alcohol (soak for a bit, scoop some through it, etc), shake out well, dry the outside with a paper towel and then blow or blow dry inside until it is dry. (at least once a week I do the same thing with my used atty but I leave it in the alcohol overnight)

2. The shorter safe way - drip some e-juice on the atty (3 drops or so) and vape that without inhaling. You may have to do that a couple of times. I recommend using a thinner juice with little flavor - not a thick VG and not a flavor you don't want hanging around for your first vapes. I have some flavorless PG juice I use for this.

3. The less safe way - dry burn. If you have a manual battery, with no cart on, press the button no more than 4 secs and stop as soon as you see a whiff of vapor come off the atty and hear juice sizzle or pop (don't point it at your face). Do 1-2 more times. You gotta be careful because burning an atty while dry can shorten its life. And do not let it get to red hot.
