Hi,

I'm trying to quit smoking using e-cigs. I have been smoking Carlton Menthol's, that are like smoking air. I used to smoke Virginia Slims Menthol and was able to cut back to the Carltons a few years ago. I need to break the habit of the act of smoking. Carlton has so little nicotine in them, I don't think I really need the nicotine, and I certainly don't need any throat hit. I just need somthing I can use that has a vapor so I go through the act of smoking.

I have a KR808 and ordered all kinds of juice, Pg/VG no nicotine, 100% VG no nicotine, 100% VG 6mg nicotine and everything makes me cough.

I saw some posts about ecopure fresh and wonder if that would be mild enough for me.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me. I have spent a small fortune on different juices, and though I would ask for suggestions before I waste any more money.

It seems strange that mild juices would make me cough, but smoking a cigarette never does.

I really wanted this to work, but maybe it's just not for me.

Thanks

The chemicals in cigarettes make the cilia in your lungs freeze which is why u don't cough. As you begin vaping your lungs are beginning to clean themselves up and the cilia are moving like they should SOOO you cough. Its part of the quitting process and actually something to "get thru" But don't kick yourself too hard if you don't do it right away... it's not an easy switch for some people.

Maybe it's how you inhale. Pull the vapor into your mouth then take it into your lungs. Inhaling directly into my lungs makes me hack out a lung.

If it's not that, you may need to do tiny little puffs. I remember reading somewhere here about someone that had to do it that way and then gradually build up to full drags.

Good luck!

Ecopure might be a good choice. It's 100% VG. It's a very mild taste. Subtle.

Pick up a small bottle and see?

my first juice is 100% pg solution no VG at all....and the first hit made me cough...but nowhere near like waking up coughing in the morning for about 30-45 minutes. I was also using a pretty decent nic strength of 24mg in a 30ml solution. Kind of like smoking a cigarette for the first time...your lungs aren't used to it. I coughed once this morning woke up...and it was done... Try VG solution is what im hearing...and with no nic it should be even smoother.

Thanks everyone for your replies.

Where do you get the atomizer and carts for the Kr808?

Every time I try to take a drag I get the coughing, so I haven't been able to vape enough to dry my throat out. I try it once every few hours and the same thing happens.

I don't cough at all with smoking, not even when I first wake up.

There just seems to be something in the e-cig that when it hits my throat i have to cough and irritates my throat. The cough doesn't last, just when I actually inhale. I do inhale into my mouth before inhaling into my lungs. I actually smoke the same way.

The cartomizers are definitely full and I have tried a few flavors with different cardomizers.

I need to find something that is really mild, (is there a juice that's all water? lol) that just gives me the act of smoking to replace the Carlton's that I have been smoking.

I thought it would be so easy to give up cigarettes when I switched to Carltons, very low nicotine, but I'm having a really hard time breaking the habit.

Thanks again for all your help.

I had these same issues on my first couple of days too. I learned to take very small puffs and then inhale. The long, 4 second puff that everyone says to do just caused me a coughing fit.

It took a few days but I finally got used to the vapor. In the meantime, I was supplementing some with analogs until I got used to the vapor, found a juice I really liked, and was able to supplant the analogs with my PV.

My husband has been pretty resistant to the e-cig for the same reason. His first few tries he's only coughed and he's just not willing to try further to get used to it.

As I told him, can you really remember the first time you smoked a cigarette? If so, I'd wager you coughed and hacked a ton while you learned to smoke it too. You may not cough at all when you smoke now, but that's because you got used to it and, as I understand it, the chemicals in the tobacco helped numb your gag/cough reflex. Someone made a great analogy that we can often smoke cigarettes for years and not cough but if we get too close to campfire smoke, we'll start coughing until we get used to it.

Your body will get more used to this as time goes on. Just take small puffs for a bit and wait for your body to acclimate. Start out slow and don't expect to be able to vape these like you can smoke a cigarette. It just takes a little time.

PS A KR808 doesn't use carts or atomizers. It uses a cartomizer which combines the two of them into one piece. Carts and atomizers are typically used with 501s.

I did this too - and it wasn't stopping. So I lowered the nic - til the coughing stopped (but that didn't stop the cigs) I went from 18mg to 8mg - then once I was used to the lower nic - I started upping it - first 11mg and now 18mg. I've accidentally fallen in love with an all VG juice that's 20mg. Hang in there!

Someone on a previous post in this thread told me to try a 901 cart and atomizers. I assumed you could. I have a bunch of extra cartomizers I ordered, thought I would try the other posters suggestion.

I was assuming I was having so much trouble because I only smoke Carltons and everyone laughs at me and asked why I bother. They are really like smoking air and I think the e-cigs are just too stong for me even without nicotine.

I need to break the habit of the act of smoking, I thought the e-cigs would be the perfect answer. I may just have to try lollipops again. lol

A lot of it could just be the flavors too but I'd wager it's just your lungs getting used to it. It did take me a bit to really get it down to where my lungs weren't getting too irritated. I wasn't sure what I'd gotten myself into that first day but I'm stubborn, had spent money, and it was going to work, dang it!

I'm happy to say that I have adjusted. It did take me a week to get where I could completely substitute the e-cig for my analogs but I just slowly moved away from them.

Since you've indicated that you smoked Carlton's, were they also menthol? That may be part of the issue as well.

Oh, saw the recent reply. You currently have an 808 right now, correct? A 901 isn't going to work all that differently from it and will just require purchasing another kit.

Personally, I'd advise a wait-and-see approach before you spend more money on another e-cig type. Make sure you actually like what you're doing and that it is an adequate replacement for analogs before you make the decision to invest in more PVs.

Different juices might give you better results than buying another kit. You might want to check out some of the juice threads and then see about a sampler or two of juice. I'd recommend both FreedomSmokeUSA and VaporsEtc for juice samplers. Try to stick to light flavors that you know you like and maybe test out some small bottles at the lower or no nicotine levels. Just remember that nicotine is absorbed differently, more slowly, and (according to some research) at far lower rates when you vape versus when you smoke.

I smoked the Carlton menthol cigs. The irritation from the e-cig is in my throat, not my lungs and that's what makes me start coughing. As soon as I can feel it on my throat I start to cough.

Yep, that's what happened to me as well. Maybe you need to try a menthol or mint flavored juice? I found peppermint to be really nice and it helps immensely when my throat starts getting irritated.

That is what happened to me only the first few vapes...again i'd try one of those mild VG solutions and see if you can get past the first few hits.

It took me a little to get used to but even the PG solution and 24mg nic juice im using doesn't irritate my throat anymore. I'm incilned to believe that it's because you put it down after that first hit and then dont touch it again for hours. since it's not a frequent action the body treats it like a foreign object. My first hit didnt even go halfway down my throat if you were to measure from entrance to the airway. it burned like crap and coughed straight out. This was the PG solution though and they say that gives more of the throat hit experience.

I am not a doctor though, it could just not be for you. Although I hope something works for you because it's ultimately healthier than smoking a cig. I pray it's not allergies and that it stops choking you!

best wishes.
