So, first off, hi everybody, I'm Laura. I stumbled upon this forum because my sister wanted me to do some research into e-cigarettes before purchasing one. I'm 30 years old (just turned yesterday) and have been smoking analogs since I was 21. As a birthday gift to myself I want to quit smoking. I've found that I can actually do it (I quit for 3 months about 2 years ago to take a road-trip with my sister, who is allergic to cig-smoke) while the first week was rough, what I really missed was the act of smoking (the feeling in my fingers, the smoke swirling in my mouth, etc etc). So I'm thinking the e-cig is for me. After reading this forum and doing some internet research, my head is whirling. I just don't know what to get. I like the idea of the automatic as opposed to the manual, but other than that, I'm at a complete loss. I bought an e-cig for my mom for mothers day (before doing any research, so of course I spent a ton of money at one of those mall kiosk type places). It's called a Clear Vapors, and it comes in two parts, battery and atty (I think that's what it's called) where you drop some liquid onto a little sponge looking thing. I like how it looks, and it seems easy to use, however it doesn't taste very good, nor does it have very much (for lack of a better word) "oomph" (not much vapor, or flavor) So, I guess what I'm looking for is something that has a semi-decent battery life, is shaped similar to an analog cigarette, and is pretty easy to use. I've read so many reviews, and have seen so many recommendations that everything is blurring together. So if there's a kind, knowledgeable soul out there who can just say "Hey Laura, buy this" I'd really appreciate it. :)

I would suggest a 2 piece unit like the kr808d-1 from vaper4life. You can either buy pre-filled or fill your own. However, I don't suggest an automatic setup. The batteries are run on a sensor. That sensor can become easily ruined if you aren't careful. Liquid getting to it is the culprit. I personally like the manuals and with the manuals, you can adjust how you draw...light or hard. I don't like having to draw hard like I do with the auto's. Just an option.

Joye 510 kits are also nice and can either be purchase with auto or manual batteries. These are 3 piece setups. If you go with the Joye, get a box of Boge standard cartomizers just in case you find that the 3 piece is a pain. Cartomizers have a great advantage, fill and go. No mess like you'll encounter with cartridges and atomizers.

New here, too. I went ahead and jumped in with the eGo-T a couple weeks ago. I read through a load of the forum posts and fell asleep watching youtube vids on vaping. Info overload, but there is a lot of good stuff here. I bought the starter kit, some extra blank tanks, and went with the 36 mil nic level juice (very strong..but that's what I like). Here is what I got-Joye eGo-T (tank) Kit [EGOTKIT] - $85.00 : Vermont Vapor, The Smoking Alternative

This has worked very well for me so far...went from almost two packs of marlboro lights to nothing the minute this arrived in the mail. I haven't had the pleasure of cleaning the attys yet, but there are a few threads and vids that do a pretty good job of walking you through it. Good hunting.

Welcome to ECF Laura! You've found a great place to do some research. Check out the stickies at the top of the New Members forum section.

If you are wanting a simple easy to use pen-style (looks like a cigarette) e-cig, you probably want to go with something like a KR808 (like the VaporKing from Vapor4Life.com). Having said that, with the pen-styles, you do sacrifice battery life. An easy solution to this is to buy extra batteries (I have 5). Also, you may be surprised about the manual/auto thing. I thought I would prefer the auto as well, but my first kit came with one of each. I quickly discovered that I much preferred the button. But that's my opinion, and everyone has one :). The VaporKing kits also sell for around $70, which is not bad.
These types of e-cigs use the 2 piece design, which means that the cartridge and the atomizer are built into one piece called a cartomizers. The cartomizer just screws into the battery, and that's it. You can buy the prefilled carto's (short for cartomizers) and vape those until you are ready to learn how to use the juice and fill your own.

Of course, there are many many types of e-cigs. Most of us have a collection of different types. And, of course, everyone has a different opinion about which are the best. It's kinda like cars. If you ask a Ford guy about a Chevy. . . well you know how that goes. :)

Anyway good luck!

I will chime in and suggest an eGo. I don't use the eGo t, but I love the regular eGo. If you look at the front page of Cignot, you will see a couple of specials on eGo's. I took advantage of both specials and I am loving life now. I was able to quit a 40 year habit from day one (both cigs and pipe smoking) with e-cigs, although I did fall off the wagon for a couple of months. However, I am back now with a vengance and hope to not fall again.

Vapor4life is an easy way to get started because everything they sell goes together and they have so many juice choices. Your KR808 kit will always be useful as a backup and stealth vape method even if you end up graduating to another PV later.

I suggest the XL batteries, a passthru if you spend time at the computer or in a car (USB adapter too), skip the PCC, and pick cartomizers in flavor samplers at nicotine levels above and below what you might think you need. Don't buy too many of anything until you know what you like. Vaper4Life stuff is always just 3-4 days away if you need more. Eventually you may want to refill cartomizers with other ejuice or order blanks.

KR808s are a good way to get started.

I've been thinking about getting an Ego for my husband. How do they compare to KR808's?

Whatever you decide on, it's going to be better than what you've got now. :) Even though I'm only a couple weeks in, I've survived a happy hour, a full day pub crawl, a poker game, and my crappy job. Other than reaching for a lighter a couple times, and few odd twitches..jk, I'm dead set on ridding myself of the shmoke.

I have been at it a month and I know what you mean! I was at a club and I was out with the smokers (the whole club was people there for a friends bday party) and even surrounded by smokers, some smoking my brand, I vaped away and did not falter.

OP there are so many options out there, look in the suppliers list and do business with those companies. We are all here for you to help however we can!

I just wanted to chime in and say that I like auto batts (I know I will get some flack for that). I haven't tried manuals yet, but I plan to one day. I've pretty much, after reading a million posts that say the same thing, gotten over the whole "it would be weird to push a button" idea. It sounds like it isn't as difficult to get used to as it seems it would be. All of my autos have made it through my n00b stage. I haven't killed one yet! And I pretty much have only refilled blanks until recently trying out some prefillds.
That said, welcome to ECF and good luck on your journey, whatever you decide to get :)

welcome to ecf! can't add to the excellent advice you've already gotten -- either an ego-type or a v4l 808 type would be a great way to start. When I first got started I needed something SIMPLE....and I'm still pretty much there LOL. I use both 808 threaded stuff from v4l and several different 510 ego-types, too.

You can get a standard eGo now and just get the tanks stuff later if you like. I got an ego kit from puresmoker for 49.99 grab some BOGE 510 cartos (1.49 each) a drip tip to fit 510 (3.99) and some juice (try a few different smaller bottles (4.99 for 6ml) untiul he finda a flavor he likes. I was a menthol only smoker but I am not vaping their Mellonica (watermelon) and I love it. Oh and they are in Tennessee and they have a flat $5 shipping

1x eGo kit 49.99
1x Drip tip 3.99
10 BOGE 510 Cartos x 1.49 (they can last a while but are disposable so expect a week or so per cartomizer)
and some juice
you are looking at about $100 and you will be set for a while. add a fruity flavor too trust me the cig flavors get nasty and old very quick as your tastes change from quitting. I hate the taste of cigs now as do most vapers.
Hope this helps you!

Also you can buy this stuff from other vendors too, this is just where I bought and what I paid. get the items I listed and if you can find them cheaper go for it! Then you can add a tank atty and tank carts later if you so desire. I did and I use tanks and clearomizers now, but I use BOGE 510s for sampling new juices and as a backup just in case!

Ok so I bought the eGo starter kit for about 55 bucks @ puresmoker, although after reading this I have to ask, what's a drip tip? I didn't purchase anything separately, just the starter kit, although it makes me nervous that the eGo kit on puresmoker comes with a random flavor/strength of juice. So I'm definitely going to purchase some different kinds of liquid to buy, but before I do, is it necessary for me to buy these other things you mentioned?

OK a drip tip is a metal mouthpiece that you can use for either direct dripping, or to put on the end of your BOGE cartomizer (there is a white disc with a hole in it on the top of the cartomizer that is a pain in the rear to get off (need a paperclip or similar) you leave that part off and just put the tip on the end. it makes topping off the cartomizers much easier.
