New to e-cigs

Hello, I am new to e-cigs, I have been a smoker for 24 years. Both my 6 year old son and girlfriend would like me to quit smoking {she was able to quit cold turkey over a month ago.} But she knows that I wouldn't be able to with out being a "very ...... off grumpy pants" so she started looking at e-cigs and told me about them last week. So I started to do what I always do and start to search around on the internet about them. I went out and bought a Blu cig starter kit Saturday. ( I know should have gone with something else but it is a start.) So I have done even more research since buying that kit. Have used it a little bit but right know it is nic free. I have an order for some juice and some blank carts on the way to replace the sample pack that came with it.

The scary thing with e-cigs is that I am the type of person that gets standard tech and then finds out how I can mod it so I am looking forward to being able to pick all your brains and get tips on what I can and shouldn't do.

Heres to hopefully healthier lungs and better health.

Welcome to the club! :D

A lot of people start off with a Blu kit or something similar. If it works for you, then great, but many people have found that it just doesn't scratch that itch, so they end up moving on to bigger and better PVs. The Blu kit is what it is, so there is no modding possible. If you feel the need to tinker with ecigs, there is a plethora of choices out there to go as far as you can handle. From variable voltage mods to mech mods to RBAs and tanks and DIY juice....if you want a hobby, you just fell down a very deep rabbit hole. ;)

Its really easy to waste a bunch of cash on things you will be disappointed with, might as well get what works well to start with, its cheaper in the end.
I am sure some will disagree with me, or recommend other things, but if I was starting again I would get:
2 X eGo 1000 MAH passthrough, they each come with charging cords, get a car usb charger and keep one in your car and one at home, this way you can easily charge your batteries on the go, or at home, and can even vape while charging.
1 X Kanger ProTank 2 and/or (Derlin, J)Tank/Drip tip/Cartomizers. I prefer the tanks and cartos myself, but they do require learning to correctly fill the carto, its not that hard, and well worth learning to do.
A good setup like this will run about 40-50 bucks, you probably will want at least 2 around, have a backup, or just a change of flavor can be nice.
You really don't NEED anything else, these are loved and used by many people and will probably work well for you, over 4 years into vaping, and I still use these while on the road. Sturdy, cheap enough, relatively hassle free, easy and convenient to charge.
I own a few of the more expensive mods too, but they never leave the house, the Provari is absolutely amazing, but I would hardly recommend buying one to start with. Get a decent setup to start with and then explore more expensive mods if and when your ready.
I quit the real cigs about 2 years ago, and it really is worth it in so many ways. I think personally the toughest thing for me was the low nic level the local shop recommended I start with, you probably want 2.4 if you smoke regularly, less will just be unsatisfying in my opinion. The other was batteries dying at work or on the road/constantly remembering to charge them and keep extras with you, a passthrough and car charger will solve that problem, still a good idea to keep an extra one in your car.
Lots of good info can be gained simply by reading other posts here, I learned so much that way.
This is Just my opinion, and what I wished someone had told me when I started, I could have saved a bunch of cash and headaches! LOL
I hope you find what works for you, and you quit for good, remember, vaping IS better! :)

How do you like the vapor production and mouth and throat hit of the Blu? I personally could not fully quit until I got a variable voltage battery. even the Ego's did not do it for me personally. The other thing I ran into was the annoyance of filling carts. But really it is what ever works for you. I do actually king of miss the auto switches on my old cig-alike batteries. I have been pushing a button since the first Ego came out and it still feels a bit odd to me.

Spaceballsrules is right. if you really are a person who mods standard tech you have just started down a very interesting road.

Greetings E.O. and welcome to the forum.

I've never tried Blu e-cigs, but they seem to have a poor rep here among ECF people (Blu's sort of are to the e-cig world what the Oilers are to hockey presently, though without the potential greatness). My first kit was a pretty standard eGo starter model, but there are much better options out there, both to Blu's and eGo's.

You should definitely notice health improvement before long once you switch 100% to vaping. Good luck!

Regards
Glenn

Well there was one very kewl blu mod that was posted here in the new members section a month or 2 ago. Someone took the blu cig case, added a 510 connection and turned it into a Mechanical mod!! Very beachin!! Not your ordinary blu.

A step up would of course be a ego, but not that much of an upgrade. Take a look ant the regulated devices available, find one that will give you 6 volt and 15 watts of power, that will take you a long way into vape. Try the Aspire Vivi Nova BDC tank to go with it. Then if you need more, the look into rebuildable atomizers, rba's, and rebuildable drip atomizers, rda's. This where the big tasty clouds of vape are found, if that is what you are looking for.

Only you can determine what is best for you. Heck, it may be an ego spinner with an Aspire tank on it. But then it you may want something more.

Once you're ready for more than you're getting from the blu's re-read what's been posted here or just ask. I know when I started I need the cig-a-like ecigs. About 6 weeks into those and I wanted a longer lasting battery and invested in an Joye eGo 1000 mAh and couldn't believe the hit it would give plus the longevity of the batteries. You'll want at least 2, one to use and one charging and ready to go when the other dies. Congrats on attempting the switch, best of luck and Happy Vaping :vapor:

Ps. I did eventually get the pass-thru eGo's and keep those in stock, they are my favorite style eGo for on the go.

I went through 2 gas station starter kits (Blu and Vapor X) before I moved up to something a lot better. Doesn't matter though - they have their place - they got me interested and stopped me from smoking. Even though I only used them for a few days, they've already paid for themselves - and now my new equipment is already paying for itself.

Get *really* good juices. Alice in Vapeland, Nicoticket, Ahlusion, Avejuice are some I've tried (and have a lot steeping now) ...you can get a sampler from AiV for about $12 plus shipping.

Later you can move into the DIY juice making. But BE SUPER CAREFUL with nicotine juice...doubly so since you have a little one running around..its poisonous stuff!

The first juice I got was 24mg nic and it was a bit too much, then I moved to 18, and now I'm using 12mg stuff..and vaping quite a bit of that a day. It takes time to really get used to vaping vs. analogs, but I pretty much dumped them and I am feeling a lot better.

I mostly smoked about a half pack a day of Camels or something similar. So thats roughly the same as 18mg juice.

I never tried any tobacco flavor juices, I like sweet things or fruity ones. Why not? They are tasty!

As far as mods/toys - you really dont need to blow a lot of cash on that...mostly you will want decent batteries and a tank or 4 that do the job for you, variable volts or watts is a plus, since you have a bit more control over that. *DO* learn how to re-coil a tank tho, it saves money and lets you customize your setup somewhat.

Keep in mind this is a massive support group for your new endeavors, there are lots of bits of information to pile together before you really get a setup you like and works for you. But its not hard.

Eventually you will wonder why you didnt quit cigs earlier. I had maybe one craving for a cig since I stopped recently and I crushed that with some massive vape hits. It was as easy as that.

A good setup like this will run about 40-50 bucks, you probably will want at least 2 around, have a backup, or just a change of flavor can be nice.

I started with a $15 evod kit from Vape Dojo (you'll get the evod, battery and charger), add some juice and shipping and it's a lousy twenty bucks. It's a great start if you want to test out the real thing before making any larger investments.

I agree with DC333 that you should likely spend a little more up front and get a good starter kit, rather than buying in small and upgrading in stages, it really is cheaper in the long run, don't ask me how I know ... LOL ... Where I disagree is the selection of equipment, and price estimate, while his recommendations are good, they add up pretty quick. Buying from a good source, I think this kit setup would run a bit more than $40-$50 (could be wrong, have not gone looking this morning). There are a couple of nice starter kits out there that will ultimately give you the same feel for a similar kit, but give you a bit more to start with.

Like CJLaity, I can recommend Vape Dojo, they have some of the best prices available, and the staff is top knotch! At the price of the "EVOD Starter Kit" you could buy 2 of them, some juice, shipping, and still be under $40 (I think, depends on how much it costs to ship to your place). However, if that is the route you might choose, then I would actually recommend this kit instead, as it comes with 2 batteries, 2 tanks, AND extra coils ...

Kanger Evod Starter Kit.

For a little more advanced kit, you could go with this one which adds Protank 2 minis, and extra coils. The biggest advantages of this one are the Protank 2 Minis (to help decide if you want a Protank 2), and Variable Voltage batteries (which likely means little to you at the moment)

Kanger Mini Protank 2 Starter Kit -VV

Vapedojo has such good prices that they have trouble keeping things in stock and keeping the website updated. If there is something you want, you can call and ask if they have it or when they expect to get it. As for juice, I can recommend their Blueberry Vanilla Tobacco, it is VERY tasty!

As with any recommendation you might receive, YMMV!

Regardless of what you end up going with, congrats on your decision to quit smoking and join the vaping community! Good luck!

HTH!

I just started vaping about 3 months ago. Wasted quite a few dollars on items recommended to me, but in the end I did not like them, especially cartomizer tanks (leaky and easy to burn), poor quality battery units, etc.

These are my recommendations to a new vaper. Now please realize this is just my humble opinion, as are all the recommendations in this thread.

First, get a good quality brand-name battery unit for a starter unit. I recommend an Innokin iTaste VV. I have seen them priced anywhere from $25.00 (on sale) to about $40.00. That price is just for the battery unit and USB cable. Work great for an all day vape use, highly portable and they're a pass-through unit so you can charge and vape at the same time. Plus they're variable wattage and variable voltage.

I HIGHLY recommend the Aspire ET-S BDC (bottom dual coil) Pyrex clearomizer. I get mine from Discount Vapers for $8.49 each.
These do not leak, great throat hit, lots of warm vapor and they're very well engineered and construction is top-notch.

As you can see they come in various colors, but I like the all stainless steel unit.

For the above units it would be a minimal investment for you and you could get two or three Aspire units and the iTaste VV for less than $75.00 incl. shipping.

Regarding ejuices, that is extremely subjective as there are literally dozens of vendors and hundreds of flavors out there.
If you like tobacco-flavored juices I highly recommend Goodejuice.com. They're NET organic tobacco extracted juice are excellent.
My favorites are Vita Bella, Wild Turkey, Acadian Gold, NET Menthol and POP That Cherry.

Whatever decision you make just be sure you get good quality and name-brand units, especially for the battery mod.

Once you get going you may want to upgrade and get a battery mod such as the VAMO v5 or the Innokin iTaste SVD (Superior Vaping Device). I own the SVD and it is very well made and gives you the ability use different replaceable battery configurations for it. Such as 18350 either alone or stacked, the 18500 or the 18650 batteries.

Good luck and welcome to a healthier lifestyle and an extremely unique way of satisfying your nicotine urges.

:2cool: :vapor: :toast:

Get what you pay for. Invest in an iTaste MVP upfront and quality ejuice. You will be happy you are not a year down the road and out a bunch if $ buying all the "beginner" gear.

Get the statute kit for any iTaste mid with the iClear30 and you are set for a while. Also get yourself a pen size ecig like Evod or something not terribly expensive so you can be discriminate in public.

I would have to agree about getting a decent starter kit up front. I have spent a good amount upgrading since I started and I'm sure I'll spend more as this has become a bit of a hobby as well as a nicotine delivery system for me, but had I dove in from the start I may have a few more toys to play around with
