I'm completely new to e cigs and really smoking in general. I've never smoked a cigarette in my life, but from the very few puffs of an e cig I've taken, all I've gotten is a good buzz and a good taste from it. I dip smokeless tobacco (grizzly wintergreen) daily, about a can and a quarter a day. So recently it's been getting much much worse. Where I live, dip is really expensive around 5 dollars for a can, so I thought maybe vaping would help me cut down on dipping and the harmful things that come with it. Last night I purchased the halo cig triton tank starter kit, and the variety pack of liquids of their best of each class. I just wanted to know, since this forum seems very helpful with a lot of members that know a lot about e cigs, am I in over my head? I didn't want to start with the basic e cig, because I thought it wouldn't last awhile, so why not just go straight to an ego and not waste my time. But as I said, I'm new to smoking, and I was just wondering if it's too much/ what should I expect? The variety sample pack was 12mg nicotine content so I thought that would be good to start with, as it's medium and lighter than the heavier ones. What do y'all think? Is it too much/will I like it?

Thank you for any help and insight given, it is all very much appreciated.

I always think an Ego is a good place to start - from what I understand a Halo is just an Ego rebranded with the price marked up, so you're in good shape there.

Unfortunately I have no idea how nicotine absorption through the gums work, so I don't know if 12mg is a good nic level if you're looking to quit the dip. If anything, the 12mg might be a bit light if you're trying to get off the dip completely, most of my friends that dipped also smoked and were pretty heavy into both. But that's nothing to worry about - if you find that vaping the 12mg isn't enough to cure the nic cravings you can always step the nic levels up, and hang onto the weaker juices to either taper down later or vape late at night (too much nic around bedtime causes insomnia).

FWIW, I smoked about 3/4 pack of Marlboro Light 100s a day, started with 18mg all the time to quit, then dropped to 12mg during the day, 6mg at night after a few months. Now I'm at 6mg pretty much always - but my wife had about the same smoking behavior, quit the same time as me, and still vapes 18mg (though not as much as I do), so finding the sweet spot is different for everyone.

Ah good idea I didn't even think of that.
But you have heard of people using ecigs to try and quit dipping? If so I'm glad, because that's exactly what I want to do.

Tomorrow when I have time I'll write out my situation better in a thread and maybe some of those people could give me their 2 cents and their situations.

Edit- thank you for that useful insight. Yeah I never wanted to start smoking cigs, as I am fairly young to already have a serious addiction to dip/nicotine, so I really wanted to try and nip this in the bud and quit before it's too late.

Yes, I have seen quite a few posts by people who dip. If you make a thread with that in the title, I'm sure someone will try to help you out. This is a very friendly, helpful community. Glad to have you here, by the way.:)

If you type the keyword string "whats in your mouth" in the search bar up in the top right of this page, you'll be directed to a search directory page with a thread FULL of vapers that also dip. They use SNUS for the most part. SNUS and snuff. Check that thread out. I learned a lot from them about swedish snus and snuff and how the swedish variety is not as harmful as US sold american tobacco. You might want to check that thread out and make a post about how your a dipper trying to get away from US sold dip, looking for a healthier alternative. Vaping is 1 way to get your nicotine. Swedish snus is another.

Ah yes snus! My brother who also consequently dips tried snus as an alternative to dipping. It's going to be very hard for me to be mentally prepared to quit dipping, but the hardest part is the physical withdrawals. The headaches and muscle aches and all that are the worst part of it all, so maybe with this e cig or snus like you said I could knock out that physical factor and just have to worry about the mental part. I've only been addicted for around a year and maybe a few months? It got worse around 7 months ago though I know, but addiction is so hard and I've just come to realize how bad it's become and how I need to stop it.

I really appreciate that link to that forum post! There was a lot of useful information for tapering off dip and nicotine and how the withdrawal and switch works, very much appreciated.
