hi all , this is all completly new to me and need alot of guidance , ill strat at the begining

this week my wife came home with a nicolites e cig , my wife isnt a particulary heavy smooker so at the moment she seems quite satisfied with it , ive had a little go and i can see the poential of these e cigs but dont think this will be the one for me ,
i smook quite a bit more than my wife and am still on the reall thing (roll ups) im willing to ditch them if i can find a good replacement .

as for these nicolites , not sure if any of you have used them if you have please give your views, i cant see the battery lasting me 12 hours in work let alone all day , there doesnt seem to be enough vapour for me and taste isnt especially great seem to taste sweet and powdery lol , ive had a goo with it with the stronger cartrages and ... i want to keep puffing on it all the time i think they were 2 strong so even tho im a heavy smooker think i could do with a medium strength as i feel the need to puff it all the time and was getting to much nicotine , i think any way lol

so!!! im looking for a better alternitive for my self, i dont understand any off this attomizer , cartomizer , fluid filling tech stuff , if im honest didnt even now it all existed till today so take it easy on me lol

so im looking for a e cig starter kit that is going to do the job for me

suitable for a new comer
more vapour
better tobaco taste
longer battery life
available in the uk
not to expsensive
and easy to change cartridges or refill

dont want to have to keep buying parts for it all the time , just the refills or fluid that ive just learnt exists lol

thanks look forward to your replies

Welcome to ECF.

+1 on Liberty Flights. I've used their US store and they have a good selection, great prince and great customer service. Looking at their offerings in the UK store, I would recommend the Riva instead of the eGo. The Riva provides slightly higher voltage which translates in more and warmer vapor. you may also want to get a pack of Boge 2.0 ohm cartomizers and see which you like best, the tank or cartos.

As far as e-liquids, you should get several flavors in small bottles until you find the flavor that suits you. No liquid will taste like burning tobacco, but the are plenty of liquids that are very pleasant to vape.

You have made a couple of good moves so far Chill, joining the ECF and having the desire to quit smoking. I understand how confusing all of this is, I started vaping a year ago (and stopped smoking) and I have tried most things in that time. Personally I tried the EGO-T kit, when it first came out, and although I hear it is improved now, I just hated it... I had so many problems with it and when you are starting out the last thing you need are reasons to pick up the ciggies again.

In my opinion the EGO/Riva (Riva is basically the same thing) is a good way to go, but I would try cartomizers if I were you and in particular 'Ego Mega Dual Coils'. I still go back to these from time to time, when travelling etc and I have got a few people off smoking with them too. Not to go in to too much detail, they are a metal tube, with wicking material inside, you just fill up with your juice of choice and a heating coil inside warms the juice creating vapour when you hit the button. Most people get nearly a day out of one fill and then all you need to do is change batteries when they run out. A little bottle of juice in the pocket and maybe a spare battery in car and you should be good for the day.

I see you are in the UK so I had a quick look at the forum registered suppliers and Cloud 9 have the batteries and the cartomizers - links below :-

Joye eGo-T Passthrough/Battery - Cloud 9 Vaping

Dual Coil EGO Cartomisers - Black - 5pk - Cloud 9 Vaping

The battery I've linked to is a 'passthrough' as well which means you can hook it up to your computer and still use it while it's charging... I'm sure another UK vaper will be along to give you advice on where to purchase stuff, but this setup has worked well for me, and if down the line you decide to try new things, you haven't spent a whole lot of money. Also, the ego batteries will take just about every kind of cartomizer, tank etc as they are '510' threaded, which will make sense the more you look around.

Good Luck and welcome to the Forum.

Welcome & congrats on wanting to find an alternative!

For a noob I'd recommend a Riva 510 - Carto Deluxe kit. Liberty Flights in the states has been great to deal with, quick shipping and great customer service as well.

Riva 510-T

Here is their subforum here on ecf; Liberty Flights

Appears for the UK site you can have your choice of cartos, either boge, kanger or eliqu (I believe a Riva T cartomizer that requires a syringe to fill). The first 2 being the most common in the US and can be easily filled by removing the top piece and dripping into the filling material. Click on the reviews to the right of the selection to see what others said about the various cartos.

I'd recommend additionally ordering;
a extra box or 2 of whatever cartomiers you choose
atomizer (easier to try different liquids)
drip tip (needed for atomizer, comfortable, some prefer to the rigid feel/shape of the cartomizers)
wall wart for charging (usb is supplied, but not recommended if you're using a laptop)

I have been using the Riva batteries for almost 2 years and while they are a little larger in diameter than a disposable or penstyle, the battery last me 6-8 hours (moderate/heavy use). It has a 510 connection and can be used with most atomizers & cartomizers with a 510 connection.

Good luck in your quest to find something economical and reliable to get you started, let us know what you decide!

hth! ;)

The atomizer only contains the heating element. It requires the use of a cartridge to hold the liquid. Atomizers can also be used with a drip tip for dripping: drip a couple of drops directly in the atomizer take a few puffs, repeat. This is a good way to test new juices.

A cartomizer is a cartridge with a built in atomizer. They generally hold more liquid that a cartridge and are probably the most used.

A tank can be different things. An eGo-T tank is a cartridge that has no filler material. It is used in conjunction with an eGo-T atomizer. A cartomizer tank is simply a reservoir that you slip over a cartomizer to deliver juice to it. The carto has to have a hole punched through it for the liquid to get inside.

Carts, atomizers and cartomizers are considered consumables and have to be replaced after a time. Atomizers last longer than cartomizers, but they are also more expensive. A carto may last several days to a couple of weeks depending on how you use it. An atomizer will last several weeks or months and can be cleaned.

Attomizers are what heats the liquid and provides the vapor, the are usually used with a cartridge with filler material that you saturate with e-liquid and place on top of it, most people use attomizers with a drip tip to directly drip several drops of eliquid onto the heating element as this provides batter flavor than when used with a cartridge. Also many have a few just to test out flavors before loading a cartridge.

Cartomizers are basically a cartridges with and SC (single coil) or DC (dual coil) attomizer built in. In my experience they perform better than an attomizer + cartridge set-up and are more consistent but only hold about 1.2 ml of juice and will start to dry out with use and will need to be refilled. I use a cartomizer with a tank that slides over it, the cartomizer (which you will have to punch a hole or buy them prepunched) will then draw the e-liquid from the tank thus providing you with the added convenience of not having to refill until you see you are low on juice. This was the most convenient, hassle free, long lasting, set up that worked for me.

The tank (I assume ego tank style) is good in theory basically it's a small tank that you insert onto a tank attomizer and in theory will give you a direct dripping experience (there is no filler material) with the added benefit of having a tank reservoir (a small one mind you) instead of having to drip 3-4 drops onto an attomizer every 3-4 puffs.

In all arrangements you will be replacing most of everything eventually. Batteries will only last x number of cycles, attomizers seem to last a good while if cleaned and maintained properly, and cartomizers I usually get about 2 weeks +/- on average (but some who chose to clean them can extend that). I hope this helps and good luck to you.

BTW: I started with ego (3.4volt) and I would recommend a KGO (3.7 volts) as that extra power will be beneficial. You can also look into e-power same form factor as the KGO but the batteries and switch are replaceable and when one piece goes bad it is less costly to replace unlike the KGO or Ego as when the battery or switch goes bad you have to get another KGo. JMO.

Edit: 2nd Stef, I didn't see your post I wish I did would have saved me a lot of typing.

Once you have the Riva batteries you can use any atomizer or cartomizer that is threaded for a 510 connection. Do get several small bottles of juice to try and a regular 510 atomizer and drip tip to test them. You don't want to fill a cartomizer or tank with liquid you don't like. With tanks, liquid high in PG seem to work better - 100% PG is too thick to wick properly. As far as flavor, it is very subjective. Try different tobacco flavors and don't discount non-tobacco flavors.
