I'm doing alright now... a lot less confused ^_^ I'm looking a 3 different choices now. Wondering if it is better (or possible) to get a starter kit with empty cartridges so I can start filling them on my own from the start, or should I just buy an extra pack of cartridges and the juice at the same time.

And yeah, I really don't want to "quit" either. Really, just looking for something easier on the budget (at least in the long run) and healthier for both me and my family.

lol, I'm looking forward to the experience. It's hard without actually getting to "feel" or hold the ecig first. I guess my thing with wanting something similar to a traditional cig is that I'm a very visual and tactile person, and the ego/kgo types just look very clunky and almost like they'd be uncomfortable to hold.

I use one of those dental picks or however they're called, I just had one laying around...

Kat, no matter what you do, you definitely should get a few blank cartomizers that go with your battery. If you choose a slim 510, get Boge standard resistance, 3 Ohm cartomizers. If you get a KR808, just get the respective cartos, they don't have too many choices afaik.

Just a little terminology nazism: cartridges are different from cartomizers. Cartridges are a mouthpiece filled with a sponge-like stuffing that you fill with a little juice and go on top of atomizers. This setup is considered outdated and is a lot of hassle. Cartomizers, cartos for short, have both a heating element and the filler material that holds a lot more juice than a cartridge would.

I didn't want to quit either and had some really rough days at the beginning!!! I smoked a lot for 32 years, so I am so glad that you are quitting after 12. The long term health effects are fewer. I think you'll do fine vaping. A lot of the info will make more sense after you start.

+1 for the Volt by Smokeless Image. I've been vaping almost 3 years and have tried most of what is available. I picked up a Volt kit to see what all the fuss was about and I've been very impressed. Until now, I haven't really come across a slim ecig that I'd recommend to anyone who smoked more than 1/2PAD of cigarettes just because I know how frustrating all the refilling and recharging can be.

I got the 78mm manual battery. It lasts me about 3-4 hrs of pretty steady vaping with 1 carto fill in between. Their prices are good and they are about as fiddle free as they come.

I also use thin steel crochet hook that I bent a bit. lol. I am going to look for a dental pick. That would be thinnner and less hassle. I totally agree with elfstone on the hassle factor of cartridges! I got some with a really cheap 510 before my V4L kit and they leaked all over! I finally threw them away, got 808 cartomizers and an adapter for the 510 batteries.

Okay... I like the fact that the Joye 510 is less than half what I was planning to spend on the blu and is manual, but it looks like its a atomizer/cartridge... the Volt from Smokeless Image is still less than what I was planning to spend and has a cartomizer, but it looks like it's an automatic, and from what I read, I liked the idea of the manual battery better.

EDIT: nvm... I found the option for a manual battery for the Volt Starter Pack... I think I'm leaning more towards that one... now to find a good menthol juice to start out with. I can experiment more once I know what I'm doing. ^_^

The Volt kit comes in manual or auto and you get either get a 65mm length or 78mm length. I got the 78mm manual and the button is really low profile which I liked. The cartos, in my opinion, perform really really well and I moved away from filler cartos a long time ago, but I find myself using this one.

my first starter kit was the Apollo Extreme (google apollo e cigs) with empty carts. i still use them as well as a tank set up.. they were like an anolog but was oh so much better. Apollo is very helpful and have awesome eliquids.. u can buy seperate bats and carts to save starter kit $$ and they give you a free and very high quality disposable..

i have a brand new in the box disposable menthol med nic in the box that i will happily send ya for free if you would like.. (originaly for my wife but she is holding out)

Okay, I think I'm going with the Volt Standard Starter Kit with 78mm manual batteries and Ice Menthol. I added one 30ml bottle of Ice Menthol liquid and a extra pack of blank cartos. I can spend my "cigarette funds" on refills and replacements as needed after that. I might be able to squeeze another pack of cartos and bottle of liquid out of my budget if ya'll think I might need it. I don't know how long it'll last, but I don't seem to smoke as much as ya'll did. I am interested in trying the other menthol they have.

I'd like to get a pass through as well as a few other accessories I saw, but I'm trying to get what I need to get started now, and I'll splurge on the extras once I've saved up more money (hopefully with what I save from switching). ^_^

Thank you all for the answers and support. I'm sorry I pretty much made ya'll hold my hand through the whole process. you've been absolutely wonderful and I will definitely stick around and keep you all updated on how everything works out ^_^

I think you'll be happy. I have read some reviews of the Volt and even experienced vapers seem to like it. I have a similar set up from V4L and am really happy with it. Let us know how you are doing with it!! We like holding your hand and we had others holding ours at first.

I haven't tried the Volt, but I've heard good things about it. I went the other direction (the 510's -- got a 510 Joye manual kit). While filling the cartridges can be a bit annoying, it's not much worse than filling the cartomizers... the real difference comes in the fact that with a carto, you pop it on your battery and you're ready to vape now, whereas with an atomizer and cartridge setup, you have to fill the cartridge, let it sit for a few minutes if you didn't prepare in advance and prefill a few of them (it gives time so the filler material can fully soak up the juice) and then you can pop it on the atty, put the atty/cartridge on the battery, and vape.

Regardless of where you start, there ARE alternatives that are actually reasonable in price if you do decide to leave the cigarette-size behind sometime in the next few months, and the juices that are out there are phenomenally varied and really tasty. Over the course of the next few months, be prepared to pick up some extra cartos and a couple-few sample bottles of juice from different vendors to try out.

I assumed, naturally, that I wouldn't like sweet vapes and that I'd lean towards tobacco-flavored stuff. A month into it, I have more sweet vapes than tobacco, am starting to experiment a little with fruit flavors (oh, do I like caramel apple), and have two very distinctive tobacco-types which I alternate between for those times when I'm most craving a cigarette. So as time goes on, be ready to experiment a little bit, too -- you won't actually know if you're going to love or hate something until you try it -- and try to hunt down a vaper group in your area, because in my experience, that is the absolutely best way to see these things up close and find out how they work for other people and maybe even if they'll work for you. :)
