New to RBAs

I just got my first RSST and a bag of organic, unbleached cotton. I would like to know what kind of wire and gauge would be best for me. I'm thinking a kanthal 20awg wire. I do not want sub-ohms (they scare me for some illogical reason). I have a sigelei telescoping mechanical mod, and a yellow ultrafire 18650 5000mah battery. What is everyone's input? What do I need? hm, RSST is more about genesis style,
therefore designed quite differently,

you can use cotton but .... any option to can get hold on non-genesis style, if you are willing to use cotton ?

(Why ? - because it might be hard for a new to rba )

If you do not want to subohm, get a high gauge of wire. 20AWG is THICK and may be hard to be get above an ohm. I would recommend 28, 30 or possibly 32 gauge.

Get 30 gauge kanthal, high drain imr batteries, and probably an igo-l rda. The battery you've posted is not suitable for use in any vaping device. 20 gauge kanthal is ridiculously thick and low resistance. Cotton can be tough to make work properly in a genesis atty, they are made for using rolled mesh wicks which can be tricky themselves. Since it seems you have a lot to learn, I recommend something easy like a single coil dripper (rda).

Thank you guys for all of your input. I would like to say that i greatly appreciate this community. I want to use cotton because i like it's taste more than any other wick, and i find it to be a bit more cost effective. Considering i want normal ohm vaping, should i use 30awg kanthal as a nice middle ground?

I would go with 28g, as thats tge standarx so more info can be found on those. Thicker wire actually means more resistance, as opposed to thinnr. Five wraps on 26 will have a higher ohm than 30.

I agree with everyone else about a better battery, as Ultrafire is very second tier imo. AW, Sony, Orbtronic, panasonic, Mnke are the way to go generally, as theyre generally better.

You might have issues with wicking the cotton, but its just practice, as i used cotton in my RSST. Eight to Twelve wraps will get you above an ohm with 28 gauge if you dont have a meter. This is on a 3/32nd drill bit

This is wrong. Thicker wire is lower resistance. There is no "standard" resistance wire and info can be found on any of the common gauges. Those are 28 through 34 gauge, and you could maybe throw 26 gauge in there nowadays but that is for deeper (pushing safety margins) sub-ohm.

Go with 30 gauge. 28 gauge is best suited for shallow sub-ohm (0.7 to 1.0 ohm on a single coil).

AW is one of the best quality batteries, definitely recommended. And yes, sub-ohm means less than 1 ohm. Its not inherently dangerous, but it can be if you don't know what you are doing. Overloading lithium ion (IMR) batteries can cause them to vent hot gas and burn you badly or start fires. Your Ultrafire battery is not safe chemistry, cannot handle high current draw, and can actually explode if overloaded. Keep it above 1 ohm until you know exactly what you are doing.
