Hey folks!

So I stumbled my way into a working set-up. Here's my story:

Ordered a REO 18490 with the Reobuildable atomizer. Of course, it doesn't fit! Also, my package with batteries, atomizers etc got STOLEN so I had to wait a few days just playing with the REO and vaping on my Janty Stick with flavorless, old-fashioned 801 atomizers. Avid Vaper has offered to give me half the order's worth of store credit so kudos to them!

Yesterday I came home to a package from Heather's Heavenly Vapes and one containing a Hornet RBA! Played with flavors on an old ego with an old Joye 510 atomizer all day. Admired the flame finish Hornet on my silver vein REO 18490!

Today, my batteries and charger arrived along with a Shortstop and my first 2.0ohm cartomizers and my first 1.7ohm 306 atomizer. The 801 atomizers still suck on the REO at 3.7V with the stealth 510 - 801 adapter. I played with the 306 and a cartomizer for a little while before mustering the courage to wrap my first coil.

Tried 33 gague kanthal and 30 gague in a couple styles. Loved a 9-wrap of 28 gague and then ruined it. I don't have a multimeter. The Shortstop popped a few times while I was playing with the coil, as planned.

Now I'm using a 7 wrap of the 28 gague and it's working great! Super defined flavor; as good as or better than the 306. Who cares what ohm the coil is! Actually, I'm curious what ohm it might measure out to but I don't think I care enough to buy a multimeter,

This is fantastic

Both have native 801 atty connectors. I use standard resistance DSE 801 atomizers on both. Both produce massive clouds of vapor and great flavor. Power and voltage regulation on an 801 juice feeder make these atty sing.

I realize that 801 attys aren't prefered by most vaping enthusiasts, and that's okay. However, in the spirit of setting the record straight, I thought I'd chime in, show off two of my favorite Reos, and give the 801 atomizer due credit.

Enjoy that Hornet! I own three of it's big brothers, the ERA. One sits atop my Kicked Reo Grand right now. You've got a great setup and it will no doubt provide you all the vaping bliss you can handle.

Welcome to Reoville. I name thee, fellow Reovillain!

What a story, and a happy ending! Congrats on your REO purchase! Your a Reonaut now!

You have the best PV out there and a RBA to boot. Sounds like you are in for some terrific vaping with your set-up.

A multimeter is great to have because you can test batteries and atty's. But for the RBA's I love the ohm meter. It is easy to use and also is fantastic to hold your RBA while you build your coil. You can test first and maybe save a spring collapse on your REO.

Metameme... Scott ( Sterno) has multimeters or some such thing that he's giving away, tho he's out of them right now...

And welcome to reoville!

Ah, thanks Mudflap. I'll save the 801s in that case to be used on a VV mod someday.

Nerak, shouldn't the shortstop protect me against spring collapse?

I wouldn't cling to them. You have to twist Rob's arm to get him to build an 801 native Reo these days. I twisted it twice.

All models of Reos currently produced are 510 native.

If you are using a mod fuse then I would say yes, it should break the circuit before the spring collapses. I am not familiar with the shortstop. With it being a reusable then hopefully it will keep working. Those one time only fuses could get expensive if you have lots of shorts.

From the vendor's page:

"The... ShortStop is a wonderful product that helps you mitigate the dangers of using high powered lithium-ion/lithium polymer batteries in your device by preventing hard or dead shorts between your battery and what that battery is powering. This helps to prevent the battery ever getting hot enough to vent or catch fire. It works by watching how much current flows through it and when it notices a large amount of current, it springs into action and slows down the flow, preventing a hard short of the battery. The best analogy we can draw is that of a cars seat belt. It's loose and flexible until your car is involved in a crash, and then it locks down when you need it. The best part about ShortStop is that it is reusable. After ShortStop does its job, it simply needs a short cool down period before it is ready to use again."

I just ordered an 18490 (my first Reo) wondering if I'm going to feel like a noob all over again
At least I've been a dripper for a long time, and have a good supply of atties to try on it.

A simple question to get started: how full do you usually fill the bottle, and how low do you let it get before topping it off? (or does it make any difference)

I've had shortstops in my mechanical mods since ENS started carrying them, but so far they have never had to do their deed. I feel better having them in there, and I hope I never have to find out if they work or not.

For me, I load the bottle as full as can be but leave room enough that the tube doesn't overflow it when I screw the cap on. In terms of how low do I let it get? I probably go to low on it- usually when it starts making the "squonk sound" or I no longer get juice production to my atty- I know it's time. Others may re-fill their bottle way before this to avoid any dry hits.

I top off when the juice in the bottle is low enough that I have to squonk for a longer time, and a little harder. I usually take all the REO's I am using and check the bottles. If they are half or below they get topped off. Doing that all at once is easier than filling one at a time.

    Welcome, tj99959 :)
I doubt you'll feel noobish for much more than a few minutes.
I fill my bottles to about 75-80%. Can go all the way to the shoulder on the 6ml bottle, but the tube will displace more juice on the 3ml bottle, so for your first time, I'd fill it 75% full. I'm lazy...so I don't refill until I can't get anymore juice to feed.
