Hello everyone, I'm FrankZito. Obviously I'm new [edited]. I'll probably be on these forums quite frequently, so I just wanted to introduce myself as well as ask a question.

[Edited] I've smoked cigarettes since I was 11 years old (I'm 25 now), and I've *almost* decided on which items I'm going to buy [edited]. I was hoping to get some feedback from people on here who have used them. Anyway, I'm looking at...

I'm 99% sure I'm going to get the "30W Eleaf iStick"- seems like a great unit.

I'm having a harder time deciding on which tank to get (actually I think the ones I'm looking at are technically cartomizers; please correct me if I'm wrong). I am *strongly* leaning towards the "Aspire Nautilus", although I'm also considering the "KangerTech Subtank" or the "KangerTech Subtank Mini".

My main question is: Does anybody here have personal experience using those tanks with the 30W iStick? I'll probably be starting with a 50/50 @ 12mg or 18mg... I'm looking for maximum flavour, but I still want to be able to get a nice throat hit; which I believe I have *some* control over by turning up the adjustable settings on the iStick and/or cartomizer; correct? I already know about the properties and differences between PG and VG; so I don't need the 101 on that.

The iSticks' variable voltage is 2.0V - 8.0V, and the variable wattage is 5W - 30W. ANY personal experience, insight, tips, success/horror stories... ANYTHING at all is greatly and appreciated.

Thank you for your time; I look forward to hearing what people have to say. I also look forward to contributing to these forums for a long time to come. Happy vaping everyone!

-FrankZito

P.S. I have no idea why in my post the word "vaping" hotlinks to another site... I did not intend to do that; and apparently I can't prevent it.

Hi Frank,

I'm really sorry but we don't allow discussion of dry herb here. Not because we're not sympathetic but because we're strictly focussed on vaping, and because discussion of dry herb can get websites blocked from certain workplaces.

What I will say is - have you considered temperature control devices? Cloupor (since you mentioned them) make one, as do many others.

Hello and welcome to the forum @FrankZito. Glad to have you here!

If you are a M2L inhaler the iStick 30 watt w/a Nautilus Mini is a great combination. I don't have the 30 watt but use to run my Nautilus on the iStick 20 watt (at between 15-17 watts). The 30 watt is an upgraded model and addresses some of the issues with the 20 watt.

If you interested in the Kanger Subtank Mini I would suggest you look into the Kanger Subox Mini Kit. It includes the Subtank Mini. I usually run my Subtank Mini at 40-45 watts with the 0.5Ω coil.
P.S. I have no idea why the word "vaping" hotlinks to another site; I did not intend to do that, and I apparently can't prevent it.
There are a few words that the forum software "hotlinks". Nothing you can do about it.

Welcome.
Have the 30 and 40. The 40 gives you a little longer mAh (2200 vs 2600) battery use. Both are wise buys.

My main question is: Does anybody here have personal experience using those tanks
I'm looking for maximum flavour

I drip with RDA's, but Eleaf Lemo might be an option. You could look into deep well RDA's (Magma?) for max flavor.

Hi @FrankZito
welcome to the forum, happy you enjoy your new Job!

If I were you I would go with a Kanger Subox Mini Starter Kit:
- more powerful of the iStick 30, 20 W do the difference at time :):
- allow you to growth into vaping, experiencing different style of vaping all into the box that you get with it;
- removable battery therefore if the battery die you just change it, or if you run off battery life you can swap it with a fresh one :)
- overall (and this subjective) a better quality mod.

Or if you want also Temp. Control why don't go with the new eVic VTC Mini? All above point are applicable also for the eVIc, however we got the Temp. Control and an up-gradable Firmware :) Only cons if compare with the Subox is the tank, the Subtanks rocks!

Vape on, have a good one.

Subtank Mini,

25awg kanthal, 5 wraps with an inner diameter of 2.5mm equates to 0.5 ohms. Best vaped at 25 watts no matter what mod you have.

Hmm, interesting; all very good info. I've decided on my setup but I have a couple more noob questions-

I'm going to use the iStick 30W with the Subtank Mini. What kind of versatility will I have with that setup? I'd like to be able to use different liquids ranging from ~60/40 PG/VG up to as thick as 30/70 PG/VG... Maybe even a 20/80 PG/VG sometimes. Will this setup be appropriate for vaping that range of liquids? I'm assuming I'll have to use say, a 0.5ohm coil for a 20/80, and a 1.2ohm or something for a 50/50 or 60/40. Please correct me if I'm wrong; I'm totally new to vaping but I'm trying to learn quickly.

Something else I'm concerned about-

I will be using a wide variety of flavours; mostly fruit/dessert ones but also some tobaccos. I decided to go with the Subtank Mini instead of the larger one so I can swap flavours more often, but still have a large capacity. When my tank runs out of say, a plain tobacco; I don't want any of that residual flavour mixing with the new juice I add. Am I going to have to swap coils every time I use a new juice to prevent this from happening, or does residual flavour disappear relatively quickly?

Thanks for any tips, and btw- if it sounds like the Subtank Mini isn't the best choice for my vaping needs; feel free to suggest another. I was mainly only considering the Nautilus and Subtanks, and I'm *pretty* sure that 30W battery is sufficient for me.

I like to puff and hold vapour in my mouth, then inhale it btw. I've read about the Subtank Mini being too hot at even the lowest settings to do that; I don't know if those people are just wimps though lol.

Cheers

it sounds like you do "mouth to lung" inhales, and best I can determine, the subtank is far too airy for that type of vaping. I have no clue what would suit you, since I dunno anything about the modern replaceable coil tanks, I'm strictly a rebuildable vaper. But someone probably knows and can advise you. Those airy vapes are for the lung-hit huffing, not vaping that's meant to mimic the action of cigarette smoking.

If you plan to vape any tobaccos, you'll almost certainly have to change the coil after it, before vaping some other type flavor. Between sweet flavors, maybe not, if the flavors are complementary.

I have two Istick 30W, two nautilus mini's. Love them, great for mouth to lung hits. Also have the Kangertech Subtank mini, also ok for MTL, not too hot at all for that at 12 to 14 , great flavor - but after the second day had some juice weeping out of the airflow holes, so it's strictly a stay at home tank for me. Try both :) also have Eleaf GS Tank, GS Air, GS M, all good tanks, never leak. Good luck!

Awesome. Sounds like I should go for the Nautilus Mini instead. I'm definitely a mouth-to-lung inhaler; I like to puff away, blow smoke/vape rings, etc before I inhale a large drag.

I realize most people would recommend that I start with a smaller device like an eVod or eSmart or something; but I *know* I would have to upgrade quickly; plus I'd like to have the option of vaping a thicker e-juice if I so desire.

Alright, so... 30W iStick, Nautilus Mini, variety of eJuice- what else should I be buying with this initial purchase? Probably a pack of coils, maybe a protective cage for my tank... Anything else that I'll be needing or wanting? I hear people tend to use their vapes pretty much constantly during the first week- I want to make sure I'm stocked up on everything I'll be needing and don't want to run out of anything.

Thanks so much for all of this initial info and helping me get started, as well as putting up with my noobish questions. It seems like a great community here.

It's a good idea to have 2 or 3 complete setups; this stuff can be really obstinate and frustrating at times, usually when it's least convenient; you'll want at least 2, so you can have one to vape while the other is charging, but it's good to have a backup, too. Plus, if you have multiple tanks, you won't need to worry about changing coils just because you change the flavor. As mentioned, some sweet flavors may go together well enough that switching to another flavor won't be a big deal; you might get a slight mix of flavors at the start, but the new flavor will gradually overtake the old. But some flavors are very hard to get rid of -- tobaccos, cinnamon, strong mints... for those you could have a dedicated tank, so you won't need to worry about it.

I think that you are going too low with a 30 Watt Box. Working in a Vape Shop you should be getting lot's of samples of different types
of Tanks. The minimum that you should go is 50 Watts.

I have a Cloupor GT 80 TC that is priced at $48.00 at Angel cigs. The form factor is reasonable and a Crown Tank that's running at around $28.00 online.
The vape is excellent on a .15 tc coil or a .25ohm Regular.

I just won a Cloupor Mini TC that is a 50 Watt device and when I looked at prices it's in the $30.00 price range. Haven't received it yet so can't comment.

In my opinion working at the shop you should have a higher wattage device to demo the different equipment available. Maybe even a 200W device.
The IPV3 at Angel Cigs is only around $70.00 and goes to 200 Watts after the firmware upgrade.

A mouth-to-lung vaper doesn't need that much power -- only lung huffers need that, so they can actually taste something, mixed in with all that AIR.

But I do think the iStick30 might be a bit on the cheapie/low-quality side. I have a couple, and they're ok, but I don't expect that they'll last too long. A CoolFire IV is 40w, still way more power than a mouth-to-lung vaper needs, but they're solid quality -- Innokin doesn't really make crap, though a few of theirs have wonky buttons. But the CF4 is truly solid, excellent quality. And still way more power than a mouth-hitter needs.

You're just starting out on tanks, and looking for a solid mouth to lung setup, so I highly recommend the istick30w and nautilus mini's since my two have lasted 6 months so far and they are smaller which is great for pocketing. Some here recommend the istick40w and kangertech subox mods those are good too - a little bigger, check the prices. Get a box of coils, 1.6 or 1.8 ohm vertical cottons if you get a nautilus mini. I would get a subtank mini ONLY after I had a nautilus mini in hand. That way, for a mouth to lung hitter just starting out, you know the differences and have a solid tank you can depend on. Folks are right, many good things about the subtank mini, but most folks using it are running higher power and lots of air flow and so many haven't had the air flow juice leaks a 12 to 14 w higher pg (thinner juice) a mouth to lung hitter is more likely to have. The draw and flavor are better by some degree to me, but the leaks aren't acceptable.

It's not just about where he is now, it's where he might be in 6 months. With an 50 Watt TC [Cloupor Mini] or an 80 Watt TC Cloupor GT 80, or a 200 Watt TC he can vape at the 20-30 Watts that he's used to. But he has the ability in the future to upgrade as his tastes change. Why not buy one unit now that will satisfy him for years to come, instead of a unit now and a unit 3 months from now. I've almost never met anyone at a Vape Shop who is vaping at less then 50 Watts. In addition if he gets free samples of some of the Tanks, he may not have the power to run them.

20-30 watts is WAY more than a MtL vaper needs! I've been vaping for a year and a half, and have NEVER gone over 11w -- usually stay around 9w with an RDA, or 10-10.5 with a Kayfun.

For 20-30 watts, you need massive airflow or it's gonna burn; anything higher, you need HURRICANE airflow, or it's gonna burn. That kind of airflow does NOT lend itself to MtL vaping -- you really gotta HUFF it, or it's just not there at all.
