Good Afternoon, I have only been vaping for about two months, So far I like it a lot and have not had a really cigarette since. I am running into a few issues and need some assistance.
My friend gave me a Torpedo V2 variable wattage battery. It has a display when he first gave it to me I was able to change settings from U3.3 to 5.0 then I purchased a new cartomizer the settings changed showing P6.0 to 11.0 this randomly changes and I do not know why or how. Is the battery bad it seems to work fine except I am blowing through atomizers like crazy. The first two were very cheap disposable cartomizers with wicks they lasted about two weeks. Then I purchased a Tabacc BCC loved it was the best one so far I have had. However the atomizer lasted about 2 weeks which I believe is normal. Sunday last week I dropped my beloved Tabacc and it shattered into a million pieces. I had two other cartomizers that the day before just stopped working completely so I had to run out to the only store open in my area on Sunday Overstock Ecigs and purchased two Iclear 16D 2.1 OHMS cartomizers two days later one atomizer is showing 5.5 and not working. Went back to store they replaced it with 1.5 Ohm atomizer it is working good but the other now shows a atomizer reading of 2.3 and isn't working well. Could my battery be the issue or just cheap cartomizers.
I was thinking of purchasing a Pro-tank 3 as I do vape a lot. I was a pack a day smoker and enjoy taking large hits off the vap. Am I killing them or am I just being dumb. Please honestly need help don't want to throw more money and be as unsatisfied as I am now. I live in Albuquerque NM so there are not many stores here I prefer VaporShotz but they are always busy and don't seem to have the time to assist a newbie like me.

That is a VV (variable voltage) and VW (variable wattage) capable battery. I'm guessing the 3.3 to 5.0 is the different available voltages, and the 6.0 to 11.0 is wattage.

When you adjust voltage it is a direct relation to the ohm's of whatever atomizer you are using. A good rule of thumb is to add 2 to whatever ohm's your atomizer is and set the voltage to that. (ie. 2.5 ohms...use 4.5 volts)

When you adjust wattage the battery will automatically set volts to whatever is required to reach the watts (power) you have set. It doesn't matter if you change to a different ohm atomizer, as it will automatically adjust the voltage again to maintain the exact wattage you have set.

A little confusing at first, but just realize if you can do math, you can accomplish the same things with VV as with VW. Power (watts) = V^2/R ... where R is the resistence of your atomizer (ohms) and V is the voltage you set.

With that said, it is possible if you set the VW too high, it might be trying to draw more power than the battery can handle...most likely with a low (1.5 ohm) atomizer. I would say around 7 - 8 watts would be a good starting point OR 3.7 volts. Pick a mode (VV or VW) and set to those parameters...you SHOULD get vapor.

The U settings seem to be the voltage settings, while P are the power settings. Though I suspect the U is actually a V, for voltage.

You use either one, or the other, not both. Power is usually the best way to go, it is autopilot for ecigs. Without owning the device I cant easily tell you how to switch between the two modes unfortunately.

The higher the power setting or voltage setting you use, the faster you will go through juice and cartos/atomizers. The higher the setting the more throat hit you will experience as well and in some cases, more vapor as well.

Regarding the Iclear 16 atomizers you bought, the quality of these really depends on where the store gets them from. Usually, stores buy the cheapest ones they can find, where the quality control is pretty terrible. I have seen pre-made 1.8 ohm protank 2 atomizers range anywhere from 1.5 to 2.8 ohms as an example.

My first suggestion is to play around with your device until you figure out how to easily switch between the V and P settings. You want to stay with the P settings, and probably set it around 8.0-9.0 watts, for most juice this is a good range. The Iclear 16 is a perfectly good clearomizer, while on the low end of the scale.

If you do want something that is going to provide a bit more of a hit, then a dual coil clearomizer is a good choice. However, I would not recommend the protank 3 at all. A much better choice is the kanger Aerotank. It uses the same coils as the protank 3, has mostly the same design, except it has MUCH better air flow, and has airflow control. Between the airflow control and the option to buy different resistance coils, you are able to really dial in exactly how you want your vape to be.

I hope this helps, and good luck on your vaping journey!

I'm here, when I'm here

Actually U is from the thermodynamics equations related to the conservation of energy. U is the symbol in the equation for Potential Energy. Potential engery in the vapor's world is measured in Volts. Its semantics but that is where it comes from. I suspect that it is also much easier to make a U than a V in a cheap LED panel. :D

Happy Vaping!! :vapor:

You could think about the P (aka;wattage) as a sort of automatic setting. It will always deliver the wattage you set to the coil even if you change to a tank with different ohms. For example, if you have it set to say 8watts with a 1,5 ohm tank on it you'r battery will deliver around 3.4 volts to the coil for it to vape at 8 watts. Then you change to a 2.2 ohm tank, leaving the setting at 8 watts. The battery will then automatically deliver 4.2 volts to the to the coil to deliver the 8 watts. It takes having to do the math out of it, and delivers a more consistent vape regardless of the resistans in the coil.

Using either voltage or wattage for your adjustments is just two different ways to get to the same place...a good tasting vape...:) Easy way to adjust in either mode is to start at the lowest setting and try a puff, adjust it up a little at a time until it tastes good, your getting a nice amount of vapor. Then check what the numbers are so you can set it there next time you use that flavor and carto....

Adjustment for best flavor and vapor is easy and involves less math, it will work with any tank, carto, clearo and with any ohms resistance...:vapor:

So I purchased the iclear 30s works great. New question how long do the coils usually last.

Really depends on your juice used. They could last anywhere from a couple of days to a
couple of weeks before needing cleaned. You'll know when the vapor drops off or you
start getting a funky taste.

You do not have to throw the coils away when the vapor drops off or they have a funky taste. That is usually a case of them simply being dirty. If you clean and dry burn the wicks the coils will continue working like new.

With cleaning the coils and wicks, I generally get about 2 MONTHS of use out of a single coil. Once in a while one will fail sooner, but 2 months is pretty normal.

My wife only vapes pure, clear menthol flavor, nothing else. For her, she usually goes around 4 months on a single coil with occasional cleaning. She's only had 1 coil last less than a month, and it was a defect, the coil broke.
